I'm not sure that an SSP signing would count in the required 3 ND selections; I would think it does not.

An upgrade would, although from what we've seen with GWS and Callum Brown's elevation off the Cat B rookie list, the draft pick to do so is already removed - does that match the vacant main list slots and draft picks that Lions have?
We’ve had this discussion on our board. dlanod is of the belief we can take the 5 picks to draft, without the AFL automatically removing the pick needed to upgrade Madden.

I agree with you, that in previous drafts, the AFL has always removed the late pick that was to be used to upgrade a rookie player to the senior list.

The hawks really paid a thousand bucks on flights from Adelaide and spooked Essendon out of trading their pick. Nice.
Revenge for bidding on Mosquito

You will lose all picks with value and depending on where the bids come, you might lose some of 2023

But, points with no value are generally retained for list additions

Does he?

I actually think he’s quite similar to Ward and McDonald (particularly Ward) despite the athletic differences.
I agree, but Ward can play wing I believe and drift inside, plus they need depth in midfield. If Phillipou or McKenzie is on the board, I’d personally take them but I don’t think Hawthorn is in a lose-lose position.

I wouldn't liken Tsatas to Ward

Ward can run all day but he doesn't have the break away speed that Tsatas does

I agree with the poster that Tsatas would be a very good fit in a midfield that is fairly one paced

They have enough contested ball winners and he would complement that midfield nicely

How is Tsatas exactly what Hawthorn need?

They lost their two of their three biggest inside ball winners and apart from Newcombe I don’t think the likes of Ward are going to be massive contested ball winners.

Tsatas is definitely a nice piece for a building side, but he’s hardly “exactly what they need” as a player with the lowest contested ball % of a potential top 10 midfielder in the last decade.

I think Wardlaw or Humphries or Phillipou are probably closer to exactly what they need.

We'll be banking on Maginness, Worpel, Stephens, Nash and Ned Long to either continue or develop in that contested role.

Newcombe has wheels, but we definitely lack a midfielder who can be relied on to burst away from stoppages with the footy.

We also lost our biggest accumulator in Tom Mitchell, so replacing him with one of the strongest pure ball winners in this season's draft makes sense.

I thought mosquito was promising, especially that game against Richmond in 2020 before doing his acl against Geelong.
Just couldn't or wouldn't get fit, had no professionalism around football sadly

Sorry, but that doesn’t really help with the current discussion.

You'll have an hour from 10pm on the 29th (but more in line with end of draft) to upgrade rookies.

You can nominate them before the draft, but you can do it in that window after the national draft.
