While I am very leery of Cowan due to the incoming Tasmanian team within the next few years, he'd give us a very defensively minded player that could play up on the wing or the flank.
He’s really growing on me, the thought of pushing Dale to the wing and replacing with Cowan is pretty tempting.

I think I’d be stoked with either Cowan or Clarke - I’d just love to find a way to get them both.

I don’t know too much about Cowan but I believe his defensive side is pretty strong?

Maybe the play here, if not to play him on the wing directly, is to shuffle out Dale to the wing? I’m reluctant to move him because he’s so good in defence but geez I think he could be an absolutely brilliant winger - he already hits the scoreboard every other game from half back imagine the damage he could do from the wing and delivering inside 50.

If Cowan can offer just half of what Dale brings offensively, but is better defensively that could be a big win for us if Dale can find his best on a wing. Also if he is better defensively it might let us get away with Cowan and Daniel at half back whereas I don’t think we can play Dale & Daniel both there.
Would prefer Jakob Ryan over Cowan. Has much more scope to be a wingman at next level due to his pace and smooth moving. Looks a proper footballer too.

Not to mention the mullets getting around with Naughton, Busslinger, Bailey Smith and then Ryan

Cowan is better defensively and with long kicks. Ryan faster and better over shorter distances.

GWS were previously linked to Clarke before their Konstanty interest became clear. Surely with Sydney duping them out of Konstanty, there's no way Clarke gets to us?
You could be right, but they were also linked to George (ahead of Clarke).

We shall know in a couple of hours anyway. Whatever happens there will still be some good ones left.

Think Jones will fill that small forward role. Would have a similar trajectory to shai Bolton, will be about 4 years before he moves to the middle. George seems to be the first pick tonight Wether it be to gws or someone else.

Having another watch of highlights and a read up on Cowan and he’s seriously growing on me, great size and looks ready to go to be honest wouldn’t be surprised to see him slip into the side next year. We need more long kicks in the side, we need leadership material - he’s got both.

Adds a defensive edge that we don’t get out of Dale/Daniel and another intercept marking option which is still sorely needed.

Daniel back to his main QB role where he’s played his best footy, alongside Richards & Cowan who both are good defensively and offer run & long kicking out of defence. Dale to the wing to give us that run & skill on the outside we’re absolutely desperate for. Hmmmm

I'd be happy to make a play for him as I rated him in his draft year. As long as we don't cough up two first round picks for him.

Anyone know if he got much minutes in his games and where he played? Averaged around 15 possessions in his 5 games. Took A LOT of marks considering he did not crack 20 disposals in any games. Had very poor clearance and tackle numbers though.

Played half back / wing in the games I saw. Looks a beautiful kick, composed and great action.

I imagine after Taranto and Hopper were traded and with a year of weights training an opportunity to play midfield will open up for him. I’m confident he’ll have a big year and it would be hard to snare him after that.

Petracca, who George is likened to, did an ACL his first season too

Petracca had already worked hard on getting himself fit enough to play midfield his top age year at NAB League level and ready for on ball stints at AFL level before his knee. From where George is coming from he might take an extra year after he recovers from his knee to get fit enough to play half forward at AFL level.

If we’re happy to wait for maybe two years and are confident he’s going to be a lot closer to Petracca than Dylan Williams then great. Probably not what I’d do but no one pays for my opinion.

Is Cowan the outside type that can develop an inside game? I worry that these guys will struggle with attention

Running medium defender who can actually defend, his weaknesses according to draftcentral is short kicking and versatility. He has played up on the wing though

He's been at a centre bounce or two.

Monster boot, I'm pretty sure he's kicked it out on the full from about 65m out.
