The coaching staff were impressed with Hugo's effort against the Cats, he's likely to get named for rd.1 I suspect, but as I said, that may be more as a utility off the bench than as a direct replacement for Vlas. Mansell seems the more obvious choice for that.

Doubt we'll abandon an entire pre-season of Balta training with the forward line without at least a block of games to properly trial it, barring an injury to Tarrant, Grimes or Broad.

It's quite a complicated scenario ATM.

On the one hand, Nank is our new co-captain and as such, you'd assume he'll play every game he's 70% fit.

On the other hand, Soldo was clearly the dominant ruckman on the ground against Geelong, resuming his edge on Nank as a pure ruckman, particularly in the all important centre square. He was getting HTA's at huge rates (from limited TOG), whereas Nank's ratio was very low (maybe even non-existent). On form (and past comparisons), if we were to play just one ruck + Balta, Soldo would get the nod, but surely we can't leave out a newly appointed co-captain.

Both hit the scoreboard (Soldo 2 goals, Nank 1) and a two-tall + Balta + resting ruck forward line worked quite well.

My guess is that we'll go with that and Balta will essentially play a high HF/pseudo wing role (much like Richo did in his final year, just not as well), with maybe a handful of ruck contests, but not many. He may effectively replace Lynch's role (please!) as the F50 ruck.

Not really, probably just means more gametime for a Jack Bytel or Ryan Byrnes who are too expensive to be serious options. Maybe it means more mid time for Hunter Clark but I wouldn't be going near him with his history.
