Apparently in our entire history we've only recruited 5 players that had previously played in a Premiership.

Is this something we may need to look at in the future?
Remove the Fitztroy and South Melbourne element out of the Lions and Sydney and I suspect it will be all non Vic Clubs will be similar to us.

How many premierships did it win?

How many more finals did it play?

What happened to it afterwards?
A fair chunk of our 2017 team were drafted pre 2012. Since then we’ve had draft sanctions, players leaving, some shitty contracts, some shitty trades, paying players to play elsewhere and a C grade midfield.

No, look at the position of hawthorn, geelong, west coast vs st kilda and Melbourne
Brisbane and Richmond the exceptions not sure if their recruits were prior to their recent successful periods.

Exactly. The heavy lifting in 2017 was done by older players who went as far as they were able to go, and by and large they all fell off precipitously in the next few years, while practically none of the players drafted from 2011 onwards came on. Yet both sets continued to receive unwarranted and excessive contracts, while a handful of discards went on to make more of themselves than the ones we decided to keep. And that's before even getting into the types of players we have overlooked in favour of drafting niche positions, the club bafflingly unaware you can't patch enough holes in a net to turn it into a tarp.

Woeful list mismanagement.

Darren Jarman, Wayne Carey are two that stand out... Was Troy Bond at Carlton in 95? Was he dropped for the GF? Who are the other ones?
Imagine a club trading for chad rintoul and Aaron Keating because they played in a premiership

Don’t reckon it has any meaning on its own re targeting players

Target players on premiership lists or other good sides lists that have upside and lack opportunities but not solely because they played in a premiership

disagree.
they were mid 20s - prime

smith 25 - injured before GF
sloane 26
tex 26
cameron - 5 goals in PF - 23

what are you talking about?

jacobs and betts late 20s but come on.

two issues that day
1. we had hardly played at mcg as soon as the going got tough we went into our shell
2. there were zero positional changes when momentum turned
3. nobody was prepared to do the physical required in a GF to win - specifically on riewoldt, cotchin - or to even take out 3 gamer graham tagging sloane
