Does playing McAdam for another 60 games over the next four years hurt the development of someone else who could form part of a premiership push in 5 years time?Laird and mcadam?… one turns 29 this year and the other just turned 27!..
Why the hell would you pick those two to use as examples of our “great recent development”?..
Geez.. lucky a 28, soon to be 29, year old Laird is developing well.. I mean, he should be a gun by the time he reaches retirement age yeah?!…
And Mcadam came to the club as a mature ager..
Six to eight weeks ago some on here (not me) had McAdam as a “how soon can we delist this bloke” candidate.. he’s come back into the side, after a few SANFL games earlier in the year, and shown again why he’s valued…
And now some of the same geniuses in here are suggesting we should trade him while his value is high!!…
Lairds got seven years in age on Jones.compare Laird's body shape to Jones'. Laird is more solid.
Say we draft a small forward at the end of 2024. McAdam retires at the age of 31 at the end of 2026. That gives said small forward two years on the list, with a certain amount of games at league level, for him to develop into an AFL standard playerDoes playing McAdam for another 60 games over the next four years hurt the development of someone else who could form part of a premiership push in 5 years time?

I just see no need to push one of our best performing forwards out the door when there's no obvious replacement (Newchurch is far from proven)

There’s also every chance it’s a Keath situation where he continues to play at a similar level, leaving us with even less firepower in an already weak forward line. The only difference is that we might not get horrific unders considering his contract, but even that might be at risk if we’re seen to be pushing him out the doorIt's a bit hard for Newchurch is prove himself it they don't select him.
My fear is we don't have a sustained attack at a flag, like we have done Ad nauseam since 1998.
We get left with a group that has a window of one year to win a flag because we have to replace too many key players at that time.
Not saying that is going to happen, that's too hard to predict, but we should be open to trading players that are 27-30 now as there is very little chance of those players being in that push. Any compensation we get for someone like McAdam COULD be part of that. And let's be honest this is the first time in his career he has shown anything, and there's every chance he reverts to form next season leaving us with a missed opportunity to add to that premiership push.
I hope the players are the ones driving this themselves, it doesn't need to be club driven. The club can facilitate it (give them time off, flexibility with hours, etc), but I think this is where some players start to get into trouble, where they have everything handed to them on a plate and forget about being an adult and adult responsibilities...like registering your car!Agree.
I have first hand knowledge of Geelong where it's compulsory for every player to be engaged in some external activity with strong post football implications. As examples, JPod has a business degree and Chappy is a qualified builder.
I hope we, as a club have similar programs to help players transition out of being professional athletes.
I agree that Dawson has been in the top 2 or 3 this year for us, but Keays has a few others ahead of him.I don't disagree with the comment about Keays and his limitations.
I want to use that however, to make a point.
Our 2 best players across this season have been Dawson and Keays.
It's not a coincidence that both were not drafted by us or developed by us.
It says a lot.
Tex and Laird missed too many games to be ahead right nowI agree that Dawson has been in the top 2 or 3 this year for us, but Keays has a few others ahead of him.
Tex and Laird have both been better than Keays this year IMO, so he's probably back to #4 or 5 (Butts in the equation as well).

In June 2021, who thought Jordan Dawson would be a Crows player (star) this year.I like how Rendell goes with Rankine and Lukocious staying on the Gold Coast as if he has the inside word. It's been openly talked about for a few weeks in the media. I don't think either SA clubs are even talking to them.
Players had a broad range of options. I think the only two compulsory factors were that their choice had to have career opportunities post football and that they had to participate in something of substance beyond just football. There were no exceptions.I hope the players are the ones driving this themselves, it doesn't need to be club driven. Laird and Tex have missed a few games also.
I'd have it as this:
1. Keays
1. Dawson (can't split them)
3. Laird
4. Walker
---Daylight---
5. Doedee
Everyone else has either missed games, been inconsistent or has struggled.
Don’t reckon he’s quick or a great userSurely Dylan Stephens would be high on our radar right now.
He signed a 2 year extension last offseason, however hasn't played since round 3. Quick and also a good user of the footy. Is more of an outside midfielder who would compliment our current group.
Be interesting to see what Sydney would demand as compensation.
Watched a VFL game he played in recently...his disposal was abysmal...Will Gould on the other hand was good and his ball use very good.Don’t reckon he’s quick or a great user
Good endurance runner , small , pass
this is me from feb 2021. I think anyone watching with any idea about footy would think it highly likely.
To be fair, I know a bunch of members who didn't go, and it was solely due to weather.
Now, if we were an incredibly hot side, would they have braved it? Probably. But they're also not giving their membership up anytime soon
I don't disagree with the comment about Keays and his limitations.

I think he has but that's probably more to do with his fitness levels...let's face it he's never going to be express.Has he gotten any quicker?

What they’ve succeeded at:
The Crows’ work without the footy in recent weeks has gone unnoticed in some circles, but is something coach Matthew Nickswould be thrilled with. Over the past five rounds, Adelaide has been very hard to move the ball against and its backline has stood up under substantial pressure. Since Round 8, the Crows rank fourth for opposition scores per inside-50, second for opposition defensive 50 to inside 50 conversions and sixth for pressure applied. They are still conceding an average of 92.4 points per game but at least there is a strong desire to improve their work without the footy.PLAYERCARDSTARTMatthew Nicks

Where they’ve failed:
In the early rounds, Adelaide’s weapon was its points from stoppages. After Round 5, the Crows ranked first in the competition in this category, recording 46.4 points a game from the score source. That’s not a sustainable brand, but neither is the drop off that has followed. Since Round 6, Adelaide is the worst team in the competition for points from stoppages, averaging just 20.7 points per game. In establishing a stronger team defence, they look to have taken their eye off the ball when it comes to their stoppage strength.
Surprise packet
Tom Doedeehas taken his game to another level this year and he deserves to be in the same conversation as the competition’s great intercept defenders like Jeremy McGovernPLAYERCARDSTART12Tom Doedee

Who needs to lift?
We all expect a lot more from Darcy Fogarty. He was taken at pick 12 in the 2017 national draft and opposition coaches rate his ability. He just needs to put it on show more often. To be fair, Fogarty has been better since he returned from a five-week spell in the SANFL. However, in his fifth season he should be bumping a 32-year-old Taylor WalkerPLAYERCARDSTART32Darcy Fogarty

Overall grade: 4/10
Laird and keays would be a good 4th or 5th midfield banana’s in a contending finals side..
Theres nothing unhinged about pointing this out.
Unhinged would be thinking these lads are midfielders that can take us to finals success.
We havent played finals in 5 years.. the last two years we’ve come last and 4th last.. we are currently heading for another bottom 5 finish..
Our complete lack of class in our midfield, the engine room of any team, lead by laird, crouch, keays and sloane before his knee is the main factor in our poor results of the past couple of years..
Yet several here say sweet duck all about these lads performances, some actually constantly praise them regardless!, and choose to instead blame the youth and players with less than 50 games under their belts for our current predicament. Now thats the definition of unhinged.
Well saidWhilst I agree with you largely on our midfield issues, I can't agree that we should complain about Laird and Keays performances. They bring their best footy week in and week out. We know their strengths and weaknesses, but its unarguable that they are performing highly against their personal skill sets. It's the coaches, Nix and mini-Neil that are the major problem. Fancy bringing Crouch back into that group at the expense of Berry & Hately's minutes in there. It's totally insane and if anyone wants to know why this coaching croup is destined for the scrap heap, look no further.
