Or maybe, as Nicks explicitly states in the video, they're about to go through their match reviews....

Have you ever been through a match review, particularly one where you know you're about to watch vision of just how bad you are?

My guess is that you've never been part of a competitive sporting environment at all.

The players defensive body language says it all
Maybe that's the issue. I understand criticism is part of review but when you know it's all negative why bother listening.

Good coaches build players not tear them down

Or maybe, just maybe, it's a good news before the bad news type scenario
If we're trudging in for yet another gruelling feedback session filled with negatives it's no surprise we're playing as we are

Quality coaches and organisations can get the key points across in ways that are constructive. Players learn without being belittled, are better for the experience. Even in the down times and amidst quite serious discussions there are plenty of laughs, taking the piss out of each other and themselves etc

I do wonder if our atmosphere is a bit more doom and gloom. Pinning blame, highlighting mistakes etc artificially smoothed over with a few gimmick announcements here and there to highlight how much fun they're all having

Or Thompson and Van Berlo's last games?
****, VB's last game will forever give me nightmares. Made two tragic errors in the last quarter in a narrow loss to North which ended up being the difference between 2nd and 5th. If VB doesn't play, we win that game and have a home QF.

For starters my money would be on him making a better fist up forward than McAsey who has been afforded that oppportunity and has hardly set the World on fire. A lot quicker, way more agility, better leap and equally as good overhead.

Running 3rd tall defender or even a tryout on the wing....Isaac Smith type wingman...

The only similarity that Worrell and Smith possess is a left foot.

Smith has him covered for speed, quality disposal, agility and just about every other metric aside from height.

That being said, I'm just flabbergasted that we're not selecting SOMEONE from our SANFL defensive stocks that shows just a bit of creativity. We desperately need to get the ball moving quickly in the backline, so do SOMETHING. Either drop a 2nd KPF if the opposition is forward line is relatively small and give Worrell a chance. If they're tall go with dropping a small/med defender.

If they had plans to put Worrell on the wing they would have experimented with it in the SANFL.

Early talk between Crows and North for Horne-Francis is our 1st pick + Doedee + Crouch, also McAsey and Worrall have been discussed but a combination of 2 of those 4 players + our first pick is now a very real possibility apparently, still early days tho so things can change especially now that Noble is gone. Hopefully i can get an update in a week or 2 on how it's progressing but it was good to hear we are at least a chance

Of course we gift games and have done so for years.

The difference is we don't gift games to young players. We exclusively reserve our gifts for "experienced" players no matter how badly they are playing
Given the ladder, our current poor form and the number of remaining games this season, I can't see any reason why "gifting" games to some of our SANFL regulars wouldn't be a valuable exercise.

It's not tanking as I would like our team to try and win. However, exposing more players to test them cannot hurt us or them. With a big picture perspective, winning or losing matters not for the rest of the year.

So 1st, Crouch and Mcasey or Worrall I would take. No on Doedee.

I bet you he wouldn't...Blicav's has been killing it. Rhys Stanley and Blicavs are a big part of how Scott plays his rucks, both way way more athletic than Strachan especially Blicavs who plays like a tall midfielder once the ball hits the deck.

Esava Ratugolea waiting in the wings another highly athletic Ruck/Forward.
Esava won't make it unless a miracle occurs.
He's a big strong brute no doubt and has great burst athleticism, but is incredibly poorly skilled as a footballer.

Geelong play the other two as ruck out of need. They recruited Ceglar last year but he's been injured most/all this year. They've a youngster they're developing but not ready yet. Strachan would help the cats weakness; midfield.

It's highly likely just a BS trade, but let's look at this. Our first is a given.

Crouch is worth nothing so the fact he is in the trade doesn't count.

Worrell, is this the third year player with one AFL game to his name that we're not picking in seniors despite good SANFL form and us desperately needing that type of player? Given what he's done so far and that he can't get a game in the 16th side means he's worth nothing in the trade.

McAsey, maybe read the above because it's similar but he is a pick 6 so holds some value, but not much.

Doedee, a 25yo who's played, what 60 odd games? Is he as good now as he was before injury years? Is he an absolute vital part of our rebuild?

I'm ok with trading all of those and our first for JHF plus a future second coming back. Next year gives us say pick 2, 19, 20. Nice kick along for our rebuild

Start the car..

They can have all four of them for all I care.

Worrell probably the only one I’d ve concerned about.. he’s still a bit of an unknown.. could end up being a gun player.

Doedee has never returned to his best since his knee injury.

Crouch is shit.

Mcasey?.. well, he’s another unknown but is clearly not a KPD, which we drafted him for, but could, COULD, become an alright KPF given what he’s showing in the sanfl presently.

Maybe listen to some Chris Scott pressers...He's very happy to go with Blicavs for what he brings...

Reading this I'm reminded of that doco (named??) a couple of years ago and Nicks being quite forthright about failing to run defensively. I seem to remember him holding the door open for those who didn't want to do it. The next thing is Brad Crouch explaining uncomfortably.

I think player support is important but even in 2022, getting a dressing down still occurs.

Crouch isn't worthless at the right team, Especially North, They have worse players in their leadership group

Wtf - you haven’t watched one Sanfl game, have you.

Worrell has been consistently solid all year. His non selection is a disgrace.
I have .....and you're clearly joking re Worrell ....and it's certainly no disgrace

I will let this slide :D

I'm not sorry but this is rubbish. This is first year stuff not 3rd.

By the third year he should have the core of who he believes can play his game plan / style

The 3rd is when he starts asking to value add deficiencies he feels he has

Patch quilting in your 3rd year means the moths are bigger than you can handle
How can you know in year one of a rebuild what your rebuilt team is going to be .....you've had just the one draft

By year 3, that's 12-14 picks (inc rookies) .....and that point, you need to have some determination of who you keep & cut .....only in year 3 have you seen enough body of work, from "most" of the players ....whether that be SANFL , Training Track, or AFL

Some you see immediately, but that's not the rule, rather than the exception ......Soligo was re-signed B4 playing an AFL game

its pretty clear he either hasnt watched a sanfl game this year.. or if he has its been with his eyes closed.

i think there are a fair few around here that pass comment on how our players are going in the SANFL based on a “vibe”..
I can assure you I have .....

Worrell is about to going into his 4th season having played one game, a year ago.

Why did we re-sign him? There must have been something they liked, his form this year has been decent and there have been opportunities.

So either Nicks hates him or doesn’t rate him, if it’s either, why did we re-sign him?
Or, he's a slow burn .....Worrell dropped significantly in the Draft Order, well compared to where some draft watchers had him .....so did Fogarty

So you have to ask why .....and it's not always footy talent ....can be personality / maturity
