Jacob Hopper (GWS)

Canvass the football industry and the consensus is that Hopper is a little more polished than Taranto
, which is why clubs will chase him first then consider their options.

Those close to Hopper have downplayed speculation he wasn’t thrilled with the treatment of twin knee surgeries that have effectively wiped out his year.

But he will be on the move if the Giants agree, with Geelong hunting him and Richmond plus Collingwood among the chasing pack.

Last year he averaged 26 touches (he was a team-high for tackles, second for clearances, third for disposals) and went at only 52 per cent by foot.
That Geelong salary cap must be some fascinating reading....

I assume there'll be some retirements .....I mean, once you hit 40, you have to be thinking of retirement ....even at GEEL

That Geelong salary cap must be some fascinating reading....

"Geelong have been hit with a $40,000 fine over repeated salary cap rules breaches across an eight-year period.

The Cats voluntarily raised the issue with the AFL, with a subsequent investigation confirming the violation.

7NEWS reporter Tom Browne understands the breach involved a GST error relating to management fees paid for by the club on behalf of players.

It is believed to have been discovered by their chief financial officer Simon Kelleher, who joined the club little more than 18 months ago."

So 10% each year over 10 years... if management gets 10%, then that's $12,000 per year for 8 years, or $96,000... and Tippett was $30,000 and we lost first and second for 2 years...:think:

I hate to say this as Keays has just become my daughter's favourite player. However, because we haven't yet sewn the number 2 on the back of the Guernsey, could we have a swap of players going home, in order for us to retain a top pick and bring in potential high end talent? I also get the feeling Gold Coast would jump at the opportunity to bring in players that will help them now instead of draft picks. They need to play finals in 2023.

Rankine and pick 34 for Keays?

Is Amon hell bent on getting home irrespective of the $$? 4 years at $650k is the rumoured offer, I’d do that. For a winger and supposedly not having a good a year as last year, his season has been very good again. Imagine him and Dawson on our wings, ****.

Free agent, no picks involved. 8EFF62AD-50D2-46EC-AC68-5B42C34ABC74.jpeg

Like how posters want all these stars or future stars from other clubs , not understanding if actually got a Rankine or JHF or even Grundy there goes our first round pick at the least .
The only way can get a player from another club without costing good picks is if they are a free agent .
I believe should go with the draft but maybe take gamble on a cheap addition like able to do with Keays and Hinge .

Nah, if we can get JHF with our first then it's a no brainer. Certainly wouldn't consider it for Rankine though.

Let's get this straight in a rebuilding phase you would sooner a 27 year old Karl Amon than Brayden Cook (20), Lachie Sholl (22), Luke Nankervis (19) or even Tariek Newchurch (20) who has definitely played his best footy in the SANFL on the wing given opportunities in a position they are all suited in?

Well we seem to prefer to play inside mids on the wing, so it's a moot point.

Yes lets get this straight, 27 years is not old and we are short of middle aged experience. Cook I am sure we could fit in the team, is wing his best position? Sholl? The same Sholl that we won't give a game too? Nankervis is a wing is he? You've been talking him up as Hamish's big bodied mid. But at 19 when do you think he would get a game? How many in the next 3 years on the wing? Newchurch who we wont give a game too?

Amon is one of the best wingers in the comp, the names you have thrown up to not try and bring in one of the best wingers in the comp are all speculation and no certainty to be as good a winger as Amon.

Yes, Yes, Yes and Yes.

One things for sure if Amon was on our list they'd be further away from selection than they are currently. 2023 is a new season.

And those 3rd party payment which we didn't declared would have fell within our cap anyway and what was Judd's 3rd party payment with Vissy worth???? I think the AFL got us on draft tampering as we had that "gentlemen's agreement" on an email to trade him to the club of his choice for a 2nd rounder which was stupid in itself given the AFL would have questioned us trading him for a 2nd rounder.

So you think they could all be better wingers than Amon?
I don't know but we need to find out and bringing in Amon isn't going to help that.

I'm not up on the Amon scenario is money the sole reason he hasn't signed with Port again?

Why? We are still rebuilding and you want to give Amon $650K (the Port Power supporter are currently laughing to the bank at the Hawks offer as they have a chance at a brand 1 compensation), what's the point? I would rather use that salary cap for Rankine and trying to get JUH.

When the new Geelong CFO found the 'irregularities', he needed to put an end to it so told the AFL, but the AFL didn't do anything serious about it. Without any knowledge of the details (that would take an investigation), my suggestion is this is a massive oversight and seems too big and too sneaky to be a mistake.

If I did something like this in my businesses, I'd be out of business long ago, and the ATO would be involved.

If I was list manager the following players would be on my trade list straight away no discussion required if we are talking Rankine and eventually Horne; [obviously none of these players would demand a straightish swap but would be add ons] or any other quality player.

Murphy Himmelberg Frampton
Jones McHenry Davis
ROB Crouch Rowe
Brown Keays MCasey
Sholl Mcpherson

As stated we wouldn't get a huge return but losing any of them [apart from Rob perhaps] would not lessen our team - we need to churn over the list and bring in quality.

Worrying about what some Port supporters think is right up there with me caring with what some Crows supporters think......

What a surprise. How many years of draft picks are they gonna lose?
