We had him training with us at the start of the year. Could be good midfield depth with the possibility of Acres, Blakely and obviously Mundy not there.

In saying that Erasmus and Johnson will be first up to the plate, so maybe we don’t need that sort.
In terms of midfield I would target players who can rotate forward or wing. Erasmus and Johnson can, and Aish is the prince of flexibility.

Who will Erasmus push out of the midfield?
If he plays AFL it will be as a forward/mid. As a forward his numbers will go
down. But will have an impact as a forward IMO.
You could of said the same about Bailey Banfield 😜

Well there’s a rotational spot that will open with Mundy retiring.

If he becomes genuinely very good I could see a move of Serong forward/ mid.

If Erasmus plays forward I still see him as completely different to Ginnivan.

I get the optimism, but trading a winger who will finish high in our b&f to give game time to two emerging inside mids, with another rookie wing on the other side, is not grabbing me. If Henry or Worner were closer to breaking through I'd get it. Or if Erasmus or Johnson were played on the wing at Peel, sure.

I think Darcy will be our #1 ruck and it's fine to hope he kicks more goals but to me loosing Lobb threatens our forward competitiveness significantly. If our small forwards were closer to brilliant than they are to handy I'd be more convinced.

With respect to the wing position, Henry is definitely close enough to play as the third winger, which is what he would do if Acres went and O'Driscoll moved in as the second preferred after Aish. I know he had a poor game yesterday, but the week before he was close to Peel's best player (28 with 14 marks and a goal, but his disposal was sublime), and his Peel form this season has meant he has been on the cusp for the whole second half of the season.

The other major factor with the wing positions is that I think they will be keen to inject Erasmus into the lineup next year as well as he has definitely been ready for a while (He hasn't had a sub 20 possession game since Round 8, his tackle numbers are consistently decent and he has kicked goals from the midfield as well) and they may move to train him as a winger if they don't think he is going to break into the centre midfield next year, and after a full pre-season he will definitely have the endurance to make it. Of course, they could also play a fit Fyfe as a wingman and move Erasmus into the centre as Mundy's replacement - there are a lot of different combinations.

You are one of our best posters I reckon but I think you are disrespecting the position of wing.

Acres has nailed it this year. I don't think he has suddenly become a better player, but I do think he has become a better winger.

Hill and Langdon were critical in our recent past. It wasn't just because they are decent players, in fact they are all flawed. But they know what to do on the wings.

I agree with you entirely. I am amazed how readily Drizzy is playing the wing given he has not played there in the past.

Fair enough; I didn't state it but for what it's worth I do think we will go backwards for a bit in terms of the wing situation (if Acres goes) and I do agree that Acres has had a good year, but this is the list management thread, and I think in the interests of the list going into the future, the level of hit that I think we would take if Acres goes will be offset by the benefit longer term of getting some of our midfield talent into the AFL level.

I think the bigger negative impact will be Lobb going; again I have made an argument as to how we will cover it, and I think it will give a good opportunity for Amiss to get into the side pending a good preseason and add a bit of speed and class, but I also agree that it will most likely be a significant hit in the short term.

What’s the go with Bailey Rogers? Had a good enough season to get a spot?
Getting a bit old now I reckon, turning 26 in March. He had a delayed start to the season which impacted on him getting a real look in for SSP.

He is a very good WAFL but watching him quite a bit he lacks genuine leg speed.

I see Erasmus playing similar to Ginnivan.
His aggression is something that Freo fans will love, opposition clubs
or fans dislike.
We need a meaner streak, especially in the forward line.

Agreed! Zurhaar would be nice down there

Yeah I think Mundy and Acres spots will be likely taken by two of Erasmus, Johnson and Henry.

idk if its just me but the one thing that stands out to me with acres is his intercept work, specifically fwd half. I feel like there's been countless times where I've seen him sprint to cut off an oppo kick out of their d50 and ends up marking it.
Young would be the ideal replacement imo.

And a bunch of those lead to goals.
Not to mention the ones he spoiled..
So often also went back and sat in the hole.
Non of it shows up on the stat sheet, but it’s all a massive team lifter. And imo essential to why we were such a impressive defensive unit.

None of the proposed replacements have that in their games. Aish maybe but he’s not really the replacement.
Nod maybe, but this talk of Henry Worner or Johnson to take up the wing role to the standard he has been playing it at is wildly ambitions.

I'll be absolutely shocked if he plays for a non Vic team.

Can't see Georgiadies leaving Port this season, though I'll laugh if West Coast chase him, Mitch McGovern 2.0 at best, he really isn't that good
