Nobes

There are 3 areas in which modern coaches must excel: game day- moving the chess pieces, game preparation- relationships, game plan, training & team esprit & media- public face of the club. Nobes seems to do all 3 well. We have a clear game plan, the players seem well prepared & positve & he articulates all this in the media. The honeymoon period is now over but there is no reason why he shouldn’t evolve further.

Also he's bloody lovable.

I don’t think it can be underestimated how well he’s managed our necessary wooden spoon period.

Look around you: every shinboner seems absolutely invested in his vision. How far up the ladder do you have to go to find this kind of genuine confidence in other coaches?

And what he’s done hasn’t been easy.

It’s the equivalent of someone fast tracking the maturation of a ten year aged Islay scotch.

We can all smell its beauty maturing, we can taste the depth of where it’s leading us, it’s visceral how ambitious we are right now.

In Nobes we trust.

I love a great scotch

Hopefully noble has a good relationship with him from his time at the lions

Could be a good free get, has the flexibility to play either end

I watched our VFL scratch match vs lions here in brisbane (yeah where Chom kicked 4 in a half).....after the game nobes was out on the ground with pretty much the whole lions mob getting around him for a chat, hug etc....... seems well loved!

I have a Holden Cruze. Fortuitous purchase that had zero research; someone I knew was insulted by the trade-in price they were offered just at the time I needed to buy a car, so they sold it to me for the amount the dealer had offered them.

I haven't noticed it having any more or fewer issues than any other car, but jesus ******* christ I am sick of campaigners telling me how sh*t they are. You see loads of them on the road too, they can't be THAT bad. Although at least one of those critics is a mechanic, so I guess there's something in it. Maybe I just got lucky.
Someone told me that some of them were made in Adelaide and some were from Asia, I think Thailand. According to this guy, the Aussie ones were pretty reliable but the imports were so bad the reputation of the model was shot almost from the start.

It's funny you just made me realise how rare it is to see a car broken down at the side of the road these days. I wouldn't say it was common, but I feel like you saw broken down cars with the bonnet up a hell of a lot more in the 70s, 80s and even 90s than you do these days. Cars being towed with no obvious sign that they were in an accident. Ha ha, I even remember someone towing us to the nearest garage with a tow rope on a family holiday. The tow rope kept breaking because my dad had left the hand brake on.

Reckon
when was the last time you had to give some guy a hand to push start his car ? Used to happen all the time

Never did a road trip without a couple of big bottles of water (in case the car overheated) , Oil and a sleeping bag. Made it more of an adventure !

Also he's bloody lovable.

You say that in a light-hearted way but it's worth emphasising.

I'm sure his likeability will be tested as expectations raise and he hits some stumbling blocks but he gives off a good general vibe.

Early signs are he can play both the nurturing affable coach (takes the players out for a parma etc) but double down on the awkward stuff (eg Jaidyn's standards) when he needs to.

That s a Brad joke MLB.

Based on what?

Mahony over Curtis in the short term?

1. Mahony has done 3 AFL pre seasons, Curtis 1
2. Mahony played 19 games from a possible 22 last year.
3. Mahony top 5 for the team for tackles (a huge stat as a pressure player)

There would need to be a hugely compelling case from Curtis to leap frog him. Im talking multiple 3+ goal VFL games at the beginning of the season

I kinda think we go into 2022 a little short (no pun int) on key defenders myself but..

..Charlie Dean must've had some sort of preseason to rocket himself up into making every other club suffer buyer's remorse before the season has even started.
or he was undervalued due to no games in vic in 2021?
Mature aged key defenders winning best VFL player don't grow on trees.

The carry on is like 17 clubs have left David Dench on the shelf.

I don’t think our recruiters & list management are drafting for short term (especially with a second round pick) - we are rebuilding not topping up.
Curtis looks like he has the goods from what I’ve seen so far this pre-season.
I’m not too sure about Dean, but obviously we don’t rate him that highly.

No Dean over Curtis

No Dean over Curtis

Ahh apologies.

Pretty clear cut for mine. We had a need we didnt fill, and i think hes a great fit age profile wise.

With the ability of midfielders to play small forward, and personally i rate Mahony (i know others dont), i didnt see the point in drafting another small forward.

We need a key back that isnt an 18 year old. We need a 23-25 year old to slot in. Dean would have been perfect.

Dean will be fantastic for the pies. We should have picked him up instead of fluffing around with lynch who wont even play seniors.
We'll be looking at bringing in his type this year in the draft or through the trade period.
I see Lynch as the, very valuable, fluffer in our squad. Don’t underestimate the little things.
