Everything should be directed to winning a flag. If we can trade one or multiple higher picks to get an established KPD that we think will help us win, then we should. I don't think we should say we wont trade picks for one because we'll need a KPD down the line.If we need another KPD we should be doing both.
We have Walker, Corr, McKay and McGuiness all at about the same age difference (2-3 years) and based on that we are due for another KPD from somewhere in that 18 (17-19) year old age group that we start developing now. Not for now but for 2027/28. One good KPD every three years from whatever source is enough that we should then have a good mix of youth and experience across that role. That way we have long term options. Ideally that would be perfect and we could react to players not developing or leaving etc etc with Free Agents.
We could do the same using Larks, then Comben and maybe Edwards as KPFs. Provided they are coming on then we get another in a couple of years to develop as these current guys dominate. Then its a matter of maintaining our midfield over a decade or more. Which is harder as the best prospects go low in the draft. Its doable with smart trading tho as Melbourne have shown recently. They seem to always have good draft access.
