If we aren't in for Bowes any more, we have either been told he wasn't interested in coming to us or his contract and what we would need to give in return for pick 7 was more than we were prepared to give up i.e. Bowes salary and pick 7 for pick 10.

Pretty quickly the narrative has shifted to St Kilda being careless to go after a player with behavioural issues who doesn’t want to agree to certain behavioural issues.
What does it mean? It means he didn’t like the clauses they put in place, not that he wants to continue to misbehave.

It doesn't matter to most of the media what it means, only what it looks like. Another poster who works in contract law made a convincing case against a behavioural clause, and for all we know St Kilda are being very wise, but as far as all the rest of the AFL world is concerned - media, fans, ex-players in the media etc - it looks like the Saints are so desperate and amateur that they'd lust take the risk the JDG is a good boy.

Just another reason to stick the boot in. F 'em. Get Jordy and give him the support he needs to become the next Dusty.

With the amount of players we have lost already and those we could possibly lose during Trade week, we need to be getting players in somewhere.
I'm with stavro#4 I'm a bit lost at how we replace if we aren't getting picks in from somewhere we dont know about.

Have we considered that we aren't going to make a play for Bowes because Bowes isn't interested?

Seems a lot more likely than us saying 'nah, we don't be involved in this too good to be true deal with a player desperate to come to us just because we don't want too'

A big NO for Grundy from me. We desperately need a part time ruckman who can play as the 2nd tall forward and Grundy nor is Marshall that.

Surely we can find a player on the out skirts of a side without getting tied to a 5 year contract.

We had one. Unfortunately he did his knee in his 5th game.
Hopefully he comes back with the same desperation and hunger to make it. Played some very good footy in those 5 games

The only sustained period of success our club has had in 150 years was when he captained it.
If his high standards put your nose out of joint, then ship off and go make someone else mediocre.

I don't get the need to jump on the club like a pack of dogs over this deal when it's very unclear what the deal is.

I can say without doubt that if it was pick 7 alone to take the salary we wouldn't just drop out. Either he has turned us down, or that's not the deal.

Gees. If going for DeGoey has taken space away from getting Bowes and pick 7 I’ll be livid. I’m sure there is way more to this behind the scenes that we’re unaware of but the optics are terrible if we are not all over this Bowes deal.

I’ll hold off my judgement on the club until October 12th, but if we haven’t improved our youth stocks and bolstered our draft hand I’ll be very disappointed.

Not even a certainty to land DeGoey, but we better be working on something big otherwise expect more mediocrity.
