I don't know what he gains by saying he's gonna try again at the end of the year? Like is it really that hard to pretend you're committed to your contract?
Right? And only just now realising he needs to be harder at the contest? 🤦🏻‍♂️

Is that not exactly what he said?

"The fact that I'm still here and I'm happy to play out my contract and we're all on the same page and moving forward is good.

He didn't? Quick read of it and it's basically a zero substance article saying yes I could go and also maybe no I won't, also no doubt everyone here would be hating on him if he fronted up saying he's committed to the contract as we would know he's lying, I think it's actually refreshing to have some honesty in an article from a player not just media managed one line cliches.

Yeah but he could've stopped at that before insinuating that he was gonna try ask for a trade again. Either way Im looking at this through a bias lense bc I don't like the guy so nothing he said would've satisfied me

I want Lobb playing like he is trying to earn a contract extension. I'd put $1,000,000 a year for three years on the table as the carrot should he meet the targets. I'd make those targets astronomical but if he ends up unhappy with the value of his next contract it will entirely be a result of his performance during these next vital two years.

Lloyd Meek is really important here.

He hasn’t ruled out finishing his career elsewhere because he knows he’s not guaranteed a contract extension at Fremantle unless he takes a big pay cut.
Either way you look at it he should be playing this season like his livelihood depends on it because to some extent it does.

Lobb
I’ll let people make their own assumptions.

Big Docker opens up on failed trade, but move still possible
"If I'm playing consistent footy then I'm obviously going to be really happy and I'm sure the club will be happy and look to extend my contract,"

"I'm not ruling out that I'm not going to stay here. I just want to focus on this year and get back to the footy I know I can play"

I'm obviously cherry-picking quotes here, but this screams to me as someone purely playing for the money.

Where did Lobb say he was going to request a trade again?

Not ruling out a trade isn't the same thing. He's basically saying if he plays well and Freo offer to extend his contract he will stay. It's naturally contingent on him playing well this year

I’ve mentioned before that Lobb is a material guy, likes his big boy toys and trimmings.

It’s always been about the $, with him.

So all these discussions are really just about getting a longer contract on same $.

I just think the Penney has dropped where he’s realised he needs to be more productive on the field to justify his salary, and any further contracts either at Freo or elsewhere.

Lobb needs to realise that if you want consistent footy and are getting consistent footy then with that comes a consistent standard of performance. We don't want a bloke who is getting paid to want more footy but is on one game and disappears for 1-2. Like Brayshaw, Serong, Mundy, Darcy, Ryan and Tabs as a forward example you need to perform <85% of the time. Not a 50/50 is he going to give the team what they need this week.

If he play big this year I hope we don't extend him on the same terms or $$.

Plays well in contract year and rubbish for the 5-6 years around that one season. Give him the ability to make the same or more with incentives. He is inconsistent and can disappear in games. When he is on he can be the most damaging player on the park.

Lobb is about to hit 29 years

He's about to hit 29 years old - he won't get another long contract (at least from Fremantle)

I think he would be looking for three years. It isn't length that is the concern it is the dollar amount. He is not worth close to $750k a season. That type of player needs to be a consistent B+ - A grade performer. Lobb has a far greater range, A+ - C- and sometimes worse, plus he struggle to play 18 games a season.

And what if he doesn't play well and we offer to extend his contract at a rate more in line with his output, will he take that deal?

I think it depends what he gets offered elsewhere.

If he doesn't play well will someone offer him more than us?

If he doesn't play well do we really want to keep him anyway?

It's pretty obvious Colin Young tried to extend his contract on 700k a year, Freo said no so he encouraged Rory to seek a trade. If he plays well this year we will sign him up again, if he doesn't he will likely go elsewhere as an underperforming player. I don't see how we lose either way

Is it really that hard to pretend to like one of our players who is a key part of our team?

That's all good and well but it only really confirms that he's just here for the money.

Well he did request a trade a few months ago so I wouldn't exactly say he's here for a love of the club. But a lot can change over the course of a season and he hasn't played a game yet, in a season where how he plays will directly dictate what happens to him at the end of the year.

In that context it's actually strange for journalists to be asking him what his plans are at this point of the season. It doesn't really matter what his plans are, how he plays will decide everything

I think this Board has some posters over reacting about this. Players get traded and are poached all the time. Aish, Acres and Clark were all traded while in contract and the first two at the Club's initiative not their own. Croad was traded with virtually no input to the decision.

Lobb either;
  • gets traded in a decent multi year contract for lower trade value for us because he will be out of contract.
  • stays on a significantly reduced contract for 1-2 years.
  • persuades the club he is critical to us for a long-term deal matching what other clubs are offering.

All of the above was going to be speculated on regardless. Pretty normal stuff.

Of those three Clark was the only one who active sought a trade away from his club and none of them were on the money that Lobb is on/is seeking to get.
