LDU would probably choose Jy but still people are suggesting LDU. I don't get it. You can be a good player without having the specific leadership qualities that are valuable in a captain, and by every account LDU is a pretty quiet guy who looks to others (Jy specifically) for leadership. There's a reason they never made Ben Cunnington captain, and it's not a mark against him.

i think people are overlooking Nick Larkey as a VC candidate. Leadership group last year and an extremely popular member of the playing group.

i think it will be Jy as captain, LMac and Larkey as VCs, and LDU, Corr, Ziebell in the leadership group.

Excerpt from Todd Viney's interview this morning. I'd assume he is referring to Jy, LDU, Larkey group.

“We have got some candidates there in that older category,” Viney said.

“But I think we’ll probably look to go with someone that can go through this next change of the club, someone that can stand the test of time."

I'd love to see Jy (C) and LDU, Larkey (VC). Then WillPhill added to to leadership group for when he will inevitably be captain in 2028.

I think Jy is the logical and best choice. But maybe I'm blinded by my politics?

I think old mate is overthinking the whole race thing and is exposing his own bias to wanting someone because they're white.
Jy is in the right age bracket, is the better player, is an admired leader and amongst fans is either the #1 or #2 choice.
The fact that he is aboriginal has nothing to do with anything. The same goes for LMac being white.

The race thing is ridiculous, but he has a point regarding the 3rd/4th mid.

I don't think Simpkin and certainly not LMAC are perfect choices.

LMAC's performances in the last 18 months prevent him being captain imo.

It's not ridiculous to think Simpkin could be a bit of a role player for us in 3-4 years.

LDU doesn't seem like an out and out leader that desperately wants the role.

Jy is probably the best choice in a interim capacity for a few years.

Jy might well be our fourth best mid in a year or so but if he's still the benchmark in leadership, strategy and setting training and other standards day to day then that is what the captain is/should be.

I decided it would be Simpkin a long time ago but now I've changed my mind and think LDU would be an inspired choice.

Though I still think it will be Jy

This. I'm a little surprised the number of people calling for LDU. He's only more recvently been spoken about as someone being vocal amongst the group and stepping into a greater leadership role and even if I recall he has stated that it's something he's working towards getting better at. LDU always comes across as a little nervous/shy when doing media and I don't think the role suits his comfort zone in that space. Absolutely nothing wrong with being a leader but not captain as the captaincy extends beyond game day and training as the face of the playing group and fronting up to the media and in that Simpkin has shown particularly across the last couple of seasons that he's capable of handling that non-footy side of things as well as showing up on game day. I'd much rather LDU be able to focus on his own game and supporting the rest of the group.
