Manageable I guess but probably caps a players peak if not 100%.
Ala, Jamie Cripps & diabetes, you wonder what it takes away.

Would love an out of the blue healthy season for all.
Last year was carnage. Somehow I'm not bitter at having Taranto in for his late out, held for 5? weeks all for zero points.

Having bulk thyroid issues in the family I can say this is less likely to be a big issue than it likely causing significant problems for him. You can get days where the treatment (meds mostly) isn't as effective as others and you feel a bit weaker than normal but it can be dealt with pretty easily. I wouldn't be too concerned unless he's just been diagnosed which, at his age and the environment he's been in for so long now, would be unlikely.

Small chance it's something to worry about and going to impact on him but not more than that.
Mmmm? .....my Wife has Thyroid issues ....I'm certain that's why she yells at me so often

Just read a bit more on it and may have been a bit dismissive before. If he's seeing a specialist for a re-occurrence it would seem to be outside the stuff my family deals with which is more the inactive thyroid area. This can be shitty to deal with but wouldn't stop much at elite level sport - tiredness, irritation (maybe your wife WW19, sure was for mine :)) being the main thing when not going well. Salem might have something else going on by the sound of it so worth a watch. If he's back on normal training next week I wouldn't think any more of it.

Nah ....I was simply trying to be funny

UPDATE SALEM

Christian Salem appears in doubt to play in Melbourne’s season opener in just over a month’s time after the Demons confirmed he’s battling a thyroid problem

“But thyroid gland problems can be produced by a variety of things… the first thing is the medical staff at Melbourne know what’s worked before so they’ll go down that path and then it’s a real balancing act to get it working just in that sweet spot so that it’s not going too fast, not going too slow.

“That’s particularly the case, early parts of the season when we’ve got some very hot weather because it’s the overheating that’s the big issue.

“In the hot weather, it’s potentially very dangerous to him.”

An overactive thyroid can cause issues with heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature and weight and as Dr Garnham says, makes it harder to perform at high levels.

While there are a number of treatments for Salem, he’ll also need to be confident in his own health before stepping on the field for the Demons.

So business as usual for Salem but not brilliant for us. Hopefully he's able to get on the park sooner rather than later.
