Yeah it’s odd timing. My understanding is that it’s not a push factor away from Essendon, more a pull factor to come home.

Yeah good points. I suppose though the beauty of FA‘s is the lack of pick collateral used. if we are needing to pay Redman material overs (say 800K, probably 100-150k more than pure market value in a non FA situation) to get Bombers a Band 1 compo to stop Dodo matching and then ALSO reward them further with a juicy second (or pick upgrade etc), some of the attraction of getting Redman as a free agent is diminished. Still probably worth it but suddenly we are paying material overs on salary (for an important role but not a absolutely crucial one) AND giving up a decent pick. Would be OK with one but both isn’t optimal IMO

Yes I am clear on the explicit rules. I am responding to previous messages from Megoman which alludes to Bombers maybe needing more just a Band 1 compo pick to not match. If they match we either lose Redman or have to pay up more than a second rounder and believe he is searching for some grey area to circumvent the rules so all parties satisfied

I kinda feel like we are only a few weeks away from the rumors about all our Vic kids being hunted by Vic clubs.

Wouldn't be surprised if a few clubs come sniffing around Sholl with the way he's been playing. Gollant would probably be high on that list as well.
