Tassie is having 2 good years

McCallum / Cowan last year

McKercher - likely top 5 pick this year as a mid

Sanders ( not the guy from here that loves Mitch McGovern ) - prolific midfielder , might go top 40

Callinan - huge chance for top 25 as a crafty small forward ( not as small as old man )

Tom Beaumont half a chance as well.

If you are a club with a pick in the top 6 or 7 would you back yourself in knowing within 3 seasons (Tassie) these players could be acquired with no free market trade and whatever formula AFL uses to compensate?

For McKercher I would take my chances and hope he buys onto the club so yes.

It’s a great question

You’d be in contact with afl already asking them potential future compensation for losing Tassie players

I wouldn’t.

If there is a top 5 level talent from Tasmania then I imagine the AFL will give the Tassie club all the help it needs to land him.

Sure - but they'll also make sure the club is well compensated.

I think it's self defeating to NOT take the best players. Draft good players and let the rest sort itself out later.

Our window should be wide open around the time Tasmania enters the competition.

The last thing we want to do is build our side around an elite Tasmanian only for them to leave right as we peak.

Like what happened with Dangerfield

It really is a case of buyer beware when it comes to taking Geelong Falcons players.

Draper beat Frampton but not by as much as he should have … so pies fans are happy with Frampton . Expectations vs result thing

We need ROB to beat him by more than what Draper did , he will need to lift from his hawthorn game

Frampton was by himself. Rucking against Draper and Phillips and they had 25 hit outs each and Billy had 28.

I think you would be looking to cash in on whatever opportunity pops up when Tasmania comes in.

Essendon got Matthew Lloyd when Fremantle came in by offloading a few players

As long as a Victorian club or two also have a player taken by Tassie the compensation will be generous

Be a great way for Tex to finish his career - can play another few seasons here and then we allow him to head to the Tasmanian franchise to be their FF for season 1 and we get a first round PP as compensation..I'd reluctantly do that but let the AFL know we are doing them a favor

Tex wont survive that long to play for Tassie.

And even if it's a top ten pick compo that pick will be starting from scratch, and may not even be any good.

See Wayne Milera compo for losing Danger.
The players we could have taken ahead of Milera in that 2015 draft include

Curnow, Rioli, Hipwood,HHimmelberg,Gresham and Redman to name a few.

If we got a front ended PP for him in Tasmanian teams first year..I'd keep a list spot open for Tex for 5 years to come

LOL..I was saying the original comment very much tongue in cheek but I could absolutely imagine a vic club not just doing something like that but the AFL rolling out the red carpet for them to do it..think Hawkins from Geelong or Riewoldt from Richmond

Please don't mention that oily corpse on here again :)

You'd be kidding yourself if you think the AFL would have an answer - let alone tell you about it!
It will be a secret, loose guideline that they invent the week it's needed and allows them to manipulate the outcome as required.

We could not have taken H Himmelberg. We made a bid on him and GWS matched.
