I would say they are borderline in terms of who is better.
But if we are to challenge the best midfields wouldn't a third very good midfielder with Dawson and Laird help swing the pendulum where we want it to go?
Parish is only 25, Laird will be 30 next year.
Bit of an out there suggestion but Kennedy seems to be on the outer at Carlton with no obvious way in when fully fit. Is he worthwhile trying to entice across? Really strong over the ball. Good stoppage player 188cm / 91kg is a good size body to have in midfield. Not sure what we would have to give up as he is contracted for another 2 years. JDG just walked out of clearances last night. Too big, too strong
Not for me. He's a workhorse type unlikely to get to a level any better than a Sam Berry who we already have.

Why he's young and has no trouble finding the ball. Put it on him to go back into the SANFL and improve his disposal, he's got a whole season to work on his kicking. Insist he has to make improvement in this part of his game before he will be considered for selection again in the AFL team.
You can't sack every recruit we draft so readily, that's why we have coaches to work on these players deficiencies.

Nope we have his type already in Soligo and Rachele both developing nicely and maybe Taylor, we need a mid with a point of difference to that type, Hately was the hope but needs to get a move on big time. Perhaps Dowling in time can be the type of mid we need on our midfield roster, looks to be coming quicker than most of us had anticipated too.

Hately or Dowling?
Both played extremely well yesterday, Hately our best ahead of McHenry and Berry, Dowling did plenty right for a veteran of 2 SANFL League games, going to be quite a unit after a couple of years in the weights room.

Either Berry or Hately should come in for Schoenberg...That was Hately's best game easily since he joined us.
Who knows the penny might have dropped now he seems to be past his groin issues.
I think coming in to a hot game in the last quarter as an inside mid he can be excused from this performance. Sub probably doesn't really suit him. I'm sure he was in there in case Laird didn't see the game out.

A decent Seedsman replacement and seems to be improving with each season
Actually probably a better player than what seed was when he first came and he went ok by time he got injured
Hately seemed to run on top of the ground in the vision I caught yesterday. Looks much quicker.

Hately seemed to be the most confident for goal kicking from our reserve listed players too. Confidence like this would have been an asset for the main game yesterday.

Don't forget that he was completely unpressured yesterday, and was corresponding smooth and unconcerned in his movements and decisions.
I really hope Redman can replace Milera on the HBF.

Not too sure that's correct around the contest with South's midfield group being one of the better midfield groups in the SANFL with Keegan Brooksby, Bryce Gibbs, Mitch O'Neill, Ely Smith and Kobe Mutch all formerly AFL listed players along with Ollie Davis who is decent mid at that level. We only won the clearance count 38 - 31.
Time we found out if he's worth persisting with at AFL level or not now he seems to be running on top of the ground and not in treacle.

Many were saying that about Jones 3 week ago and Harry has shown a hell of a lot more I. His career so far. Still a ways from writing him off

We seem to miss the point that a big midfielder also needs to be powerful and quick. The ones we are experimenting with in the Sanfl - Hateley, Brown, Dowling - don’t seem to have that power
Are there any in this years draft - Duursma perhaps?
