We seem to miss the point that a big midfielder also needs to be powerful and quick. The ones we are experimenting with in the Sanfl - Hateley, Brown, Dowling - don’t seem to have that power
Are there any in this years draft - Duursma perhaps?

Did you watch any of Dowling in sanfl u18? Seen his highlights?
Powerful was his major redeeming AFL trait.

Clay Hall and Kane McAuliffe, a WA lad and a Pt. Augusta lad look pretty decent prospects.

Yes Collingwood are the bechmark team. But one of the most frustrating things about this game was knowing that any lead was not safe, that Collingwood would likely come back, and watching it happen. It's like those shows and movies when the characters try to avoid a prediction coming true, but they unwittingly make it happen.

Edit: whoops, wrong thread. Was intended for GBU.

If we were 10-3 instead of 3-10..its game over - no comeback. Heck, they only JUST got over the line with us kicking a woeful 3-10 in the first half. We had out foot on their throats play wise for the first half and into the 3rd but by not converting it kept them in it and close enough to come back from 22 points down. if they were 52 points down at 3/4 time - its game over

Why he's young and has no trouble finding the ball. Put it on him to go back into the SANFL and improve his disposal, he's got a whole season to work on his kicking. Insist he has to make improvement in this part of his game before he will be considered for selection again in the AFL team.
You can't sack every recruit we draft so readily, that's why we have coaches to work on these players deficiencies.
Schoenberg is quite a few years into his career now.

The player picked immediately before him has already been delisted and rookied.

I would hope we're at least considering Parish.

He's a genuine B+ midfielder and would slot right in as at least our third best mid.

That's our key issue, he's best mid that's available and I don't see enough possible improvement in our existing mids.

Parish is a blonde slimmer Matt Crouch. Accumulates but isn't overly damaging with disposal.

I'd personally rather keep Crouch on peanuts than over pay for Parish. That money could be best used elsewhere without knowing what the next crop of FA's look like but I'd be looking there for a mid.

I followed him around draft time. My understanding of posters was his work rate and accumulation - if he had that and was quick and powerful surely he goes earlier in the draft?

Only his draft highlights at the time

I agree more an outside mid/forward with a canny ability to find the pill than a contested inside mid at draft time but he looks to have bulked up significantly now he's in an AFL program so he's likely much stronger in the contest now. Think we can look forward to him having a long and successful AFL career with us with a good injury run.

Edit : averaged 24.5 possessions across his 4 National Championship games 24 contested possessions - 70 uncontested possessions, 3.5 clearances/game

Breakaway from pack was definitely a feature of his game.
He's not a jet in terms of speed but he does have pace, similar to Soligo level.

Parish is ex-Geelong Falcons: if he leaves the Bombers, well; we all know where he will end up.

I get that but surely their salary cap has a limit.

Cripps, Steele, Dawson, Green - none of them are known for being quick.

I noticed Verrall featured in the top 5 at combine and Dowling didn’t. And the SA cohort wasn’t particularly quick (only Phillipou broke 3 seconds for the 20 metre)

Assumed that meant he wasn’t overly fast - but if he has improved that aspect then awesome

The biggest need is a combo of speed and size so hopefully he can fit the bill. Pedlar will certainly help with the power aspect when he transitions next year

Speed in game vs 20m sprint are two different things.

McAdam out 4-6 weeks - comes back to sanfl round 12-14

Time to trade him out get Moir in

McAdam is out of contract this year
Yeah I think he’s gone, probably for an early 3rd

The way things have started this year, Moir could possibly be available around our 1st potentially (I’d still be looking to get a bonafide midfielder though)

I'd be chips in for moir on his potential, redman for a big FA offer and wheel and deal to try and get hollands and if that means next years 1st is involved..do it

On Saturday's Bays reserves effort against the Redlgs reserves he looked anything other than a top 10 pick, tentative at the contested ball was a worry in the 1st half I watched, noting he must have got injured or dragged in the 2nd half because he didn't add to his disposal tally after that. That on top of his poor showing against the Powa reserves for the Academy will have some recruiters putting him a lot more under the microscope I think.

Many were saying that about Jones 3 week ago and Harry has shown a hell of a lot more I. His career so far. Still a ways from writing him off

Harry's problem is he has trouble one grabbing anything. Needs to be cleaner. Not sure if it is fixable.

Don’t mind this !

Big bodied and nice kick , a weapon of a kick actually

A decent Seedsman replacement and seems to be improving with each season

Actually probably a better player than what seed was when he first came and he went ok by time he got injured 👍
Jeff, have to disagree .....having watched most of his games, Williams makes some terrible decisions on a footy field

He's a stocking filler

Why do you say that ? .....McAdam on his day, is a very difficult matchup

B4 people go ape on Moir, based on his U17 year ......let's see if he has developed & can play ?
We tend to get all excited about 16 yo kids .....some like Naicos standout, but they're a rarity
