Why do you say that ? .....McAdam on his day, is a very difficult matchup

B4 people go ape on Moir, based on his U17 year ......let's see if he has developed & can play ?
We tend to get all excited about 16 yo kids .....some like Naicos standout, but they're a rarity
This is what happens eventually , a 28 yo isn’t going to want to stay around playing sanfl

We will likely prioritise Gollant as don’t think we will keep both

Not really.

His body aint holding up.

McAdam is a player where the idea of McAdam is better than the player.
Even though I like him alot I kind of agree with this

He looks good on team sheet but is a 10 disposal / 1 goal player that plays as a deeper marking target and is ok at ground level

I think we need Thilthorpe to be the deepest at times , get Fog over his knee and slightly higher and Tex higher again

Not sure room for another guy that draws footy in air unless Tex or Fog are out , I’d even look to play Gollant in that case anyway

It’s interesting: they have seemingly made a final decision on Crouch, that his best is not good enough, even though he has played some great footy (years ago, I know, but still AA, BNF). But Murphy they seem happy to persist with, even though he’s never looked like an AA level player.

I’m happy with the Crouch decision, but it’s weird that they can’t do similar with Murphy, which seems a much easier decision.
It;s good management by the club. They finally worked out that you can't play Laird & Crouch in the same midfield. Crouch has a limited skill set. He offers nothing other than an inside mid. Murphy although frustrating at times can play high half forward and come up to stoppages and assist there plus he is a real guts and all player that leaves nothing out there. You need role players in your teams and that's what he is. When Murphy plays well our forward line looks better and that's no surprise. McAdam getting suspended was the best thing to happen to our forward structure because it has looked much better since Murphy came in for him.

Further to the point on Murphy & Crouch - we don't have anyone that can play the Murphy type role well so the pressure on his spot is low (maybe Ned but not as good). Where as Crouch is competing against Laird who is an AA, B & F winner...

On Mcadam - We can't play a forward line with RT, Tex, Fog & McAdam... oppos will walk the ball out of our forward line when it hits the ground. Dogs tried playing 3 key marking types early in the year and their structure was all out of whack and since they dropped Darcy they have been a lot better. Same with us against the Giants we looked decent but in all honesty they aren't world beaters and our form since then and has been so good.

To get back to the original point, the balance of the forward line requires no more than 3 key marking forwards and I don't see how McAdam gets in there ahead of Tex, Fog or RT. As Jeffcrowe has mentioned Gollant is probably next in line to replace one of them too. Sadly for us trading McAdam last year would've been the best result for us but we either didn't try or it didn't happen. He can walk for nothing after this year playing SANFL and is not a big enough name for it to be a bidding war.

Again, I ask why .....we seem to love playstation trading, without any real rationale behind it

If Rachelle / Rankine are going thru the midfield ....McAdam is a very difficult matchup .....he hasn't lost pace, and will be here for our Finals Assault

McAdam could easily play till 32 / 33 .....that's 5 more years

I remember similar "lets trade him" sentiments were being posted re Charlie Cameron

I understand the argument of number of games per season, played by McAdam .....but he is a matchwinner on his day, you try not to let those players go
You're being a bit weird about this.

We have no obvious spot for him and we already have a similar player sitting in the twos in Gollant, plus Welsh potentially joining the squad in the future.

He is an asset that potentially means more to another team than us.

I'd hope for a future 2nd.

Why though Jeff ? .....any list hoping to go deep in Finals, has to have depth

Gollant & McAdam are two entirely different player types .....I'm not seeing where it's one or the other played

I can see the patience of Himmelberg getting exhausted though, & Gollant being preferred

Gollant and McAdam are both midsized high marking mobile forwards who provide limited defensive output.

They're very very similar players.

We did in all the rounds, up until McAdam was suspended ?

Why is being weird to want to hold good players ? ....I remember last year, people also recommending we trade Laird, now that is being weird

Lets not talk Welsh, a 15 yo kid ......it's a long way to go from playing as an oversized 15 yo to being a genuine AFL draftee
I'm not saying he won't make it .....just that people have been excited about the Jarman / Edwards lads at an early age .....and they ended up disappointments.

This is an interesting POV in the club bio on Gollant ???
Standing at 191cm, Lachlan Gollant is a lightly-built outside midfielder with great footy smarts. Gollant has clean hands - both on the ground and overhead - and has scope to play forward, back and through the midfield. He is an exciting prospect with significant upside and a desire to work hard and improve. Gollant made his AFL debut in the Crows' Round 23 win against North Melbourne in 2021. He then featured in seven games in 2022.

It's not weird to hold good players you have a role for - but it's also not weird to trade excess players.

True, that is weird, and strangely inaccurate. Gollant hasn't been that since he was a teenager.
And ...the bio was upgraded at the end of last year ....it appears the Club is thinking about other potential roles for Gollant

McAdam averaged 2.9 tackles a game last year including 1.5 inside 50.

Murphy 2 and .7
McHenry 3.3 and .8

It’s an absolute furphy McAdam doesn’t apply defensive pressure, plus he offers a potent scoring threat, both in the air and on the ground.

I think time has played with peoples memory of how good McAdam was last year.

Exactly this

It helped balance of forward line … form dipping a bit last 2 weeks though

Because he’s a late starter and is running out of years re McAdam

I’m sure he will want to play more afl games

As long as we don’t play him on the wing

Pleeeease don’t make that mistake again AFC
I’m hopeful our wings are pretty settled now

Sholl and Jones both doing a decent job

I do have a feeling Hately might come in as sub but I think I’d like him in 22 and Murphy sub this week to take a look at it

Hately also needs 3 games in his best position inside mid , can’t just expect him to dominate this week , need to give him 3 games to see where he can get to

Schoenberg experiment is prob over for a bit

Berry is next after Hately

Look don’t get me wrong, McAdam is a quality player

But he typically needs a run of games to get into form. This means we probably won’t see him in the AFL side until, like, R16

The problem is, (particularly if he doesn’t kill it) he might show that as a sign that we can’t guarantee him job security. His role will be a bit more limited if he isn’t as much of a focal target, too

I can just see this partnership going south this year, it happens

Hey look, if it’s up to me McAdam wouldn’t be traded… just that, given he’s OOC and the mid-to-late season opportunities don’t come for him in the firsts, we might not have a choice
I genuinely think if a WA team asked the question Shane would happily accept it. From his social media posts when he's over there he seems to love it across the Nullarbor.

And given the Forward lines of both those teams, Shane would be a day 1 starter on either

I’m very happy with Sholl and Jones as it stands. We’re lucky that they’re both playing pretty consistent footy right now

I dunno what they’ll do with Hately, but he deserves a chance, and he can’t be ****ed around like he was towards the end of his stint last year. A good amount of CBAs, minimum

If both Berry and Hately are in form, it’s gonna be hard to figure how to fit both of them in though haha
