I genuinely think if a WA team asked the question Shane would happily accept it. From his social media posts when he's over there he seems to love it across the Nullarbor.

And given the Forward lines of both those teams, Shane would be a day 1 starter on either
Yep, Shaneo would get a bunch more opportunities for either WA side

I can see them both coming hard for him (and Georgiades, too)

Either Berry or Hately should come in for Schoenberg...That was Hately's best game easily since he joined us.
Who knows the penny might have dropped now he seems to be past his groin issues.
Tough assignment to go from south Adelaide up to Patrick Dangerfield in form and at home.

If we're serious about Hately becoming best 22, I'd be worried this week might hurt his development.

Weather looks like deep winter this weekend here. Prefer Berry for his "scrapping" abilities.

His body was fine all through preseason

A 3 week break, an SANFL bye then injured after no game for a month

From first 22 to afterthought in an instant

The coaches are in love with Murphy too. This gave them an in to go with their favourite. The names change but the song remains the same
Drugs I can tell you he had an interrupted pre season and I am
Not sure whether this is the same injury which impacted on him during the summer. This may be one of those injuries that only get worse and could even force his retirement. Let’s hope not and I am no doctor. But he did not take part in kicking drills for weeks on end before and after Christmas

Do you think its because he doesn't prepare as well as he should?

Given that above it was amazing how sharp he looked in the pre season games

Thought he looked ordinary in round 1 but it was so goddamn hot I don’t blame anyone for that day and at least he showed some intent even though it got him into trouble

I can't understand this narrative.
He has had every opportunity here and has missed purely because of himself, suspension and injury.
To imply we are denying him opportunities is ridiculous.

This is not to say that he won't go, but not because of more opportunities.

I’m hopeful our wings are pretty settled now

Sholl and Jones both doing a decent job

I do have a feeling Hately might come in as sub but I think I’d like him in 22 and Murphy sub this week to take a look at it

Hately also needs 3 games in his best position inside mid , can’t just expect him to dominate this week , need to give him 3 games to see where he can get to

Schoenberg experiment is prob over for a bit

Berry is next after Hately
I’d be playing Berry in the Murphy role. Applies more defensive pressure and can work at the stoppages

I think we will be forced to prioritise McAdam or Gollant and will go Gollant unless he wants out

I don’t necessarily mean more opportunities in the 22, but more opportunities as a focal point

He’d be Freo’s 2nd or 3rd best forward, compared to the 5th best here

McAdam averaged 2.9 tackles a game last year including 1.5 inside 50.

Murphy 2 and .7
McHenry 3.3 and .8

It’s an absolute furphy McAdam doesn’t apply defensive pressure, plus he offers a potent scoring threat, both in the air and on the ground.

I think time has played with peoples memory of how good McAdam was last year.
Where did you even get those stats from re Murphy? Averaged 3.1 i50 last year and 3.8 this year. Also averages 5.5 score involvements this year. Ground ball gets also very different in murphys favour. I think you'll find you are letting selected (misquoted) stats affect your judgement

I’m referring to tackles inside 50, not inside 50 entries as your post was talking about McAdams lack of defensive pressure and that’s why I said “including” when talking about tackles.

So I think you’ll find my judgement is on the money ;)

He’s talking about tackles not i50’s

My apologies

Murphy does not play as a pressure forward, he plays as a high half forward link player which mcadam does not. Guess that's why the stats quoted were different. The structure we are running requires Murphy to bring the ball i50. I don't think they are easy to swap, they can co exist. Just to be clear im not Murphy fan and he will hopefully be overtaken by someone before long but for now he is doing the job required (albeit not as well the last 2 weeks). Mcadam may apply some pressure but he is a marking forward and we are already crowded enough down there

This...Murphy now plays higher up the ground, McAdam much closer to goal/forward pocket, their roles are chalk and cheese.

Edit : Murphy also attends stoppages in the forward lines quite often, hence he is ofter credited with a clearance or 2 or 3.

I was comparing stats to last year, not Murphys role this year.

Also the tackle counts show McAdam isn’t a defensive weakness up forward as you suggested. He also stacks up well against McHenry who is lauded for his defensive pressure.

But you still think Murphy our for Mcadam is a plausible change to our forward line?
