We need to transition TDK into being our permanent number one ruck Also need to move Silvagni into our best 23 over Pittonet.

Yet Pittonet earns too much to be relegated like he deserves to be.

Any chance we can trade him and get a capable backup in?

What will be stupid is that we will trade Fisher and Dow and the players that we will need to improve the team and players who are like Fisher and Dow. If we can upgrade on them that would be awesome, but will we is the question.
I don’t agree.
If you have guys on your list that you’ve seen every week for years and still think they’re not up to it, you’re better off trading out for the possibility of someone better. Even if it’s less than a 50/50 bet they’ll be an improvement on the current player/S.

I, like you, want a better option to Pitto but a shiny new 4 year deal tells me he ain’t going anywhere.

If Sydney go balls in for Grundy is McClean gettable? Only a pinch hitting ruck but takes marks and kicks goals.

Edit: McLean signed 4 year deal in August.

Binns is an interesting case. was in the best players virtually every week, looks a neat kick and a good runner. Looks like he surveys his options well when choosing where to kick.

But we’re so well served off the HBF and wing, where does he play? Did he play midfield minutes in the 2’s?
Nope, was pretty much exclusively a wing. Looked great thou, was pretty disappointed we didn’t give him a start this year.
We were trying to build & protect him.

A solid defence - and defensive pressure across the ground - win finals.

Fisher showed some dash off half back but defensively he was a liability. He’s had years to make it as a forward-mid … and has fallen behind guys like Fogarty and Cuningham in that role because of his lack of defensive attributes.

Dow is good for centre bounces and clearances. Two areas we are fully loaded. As an overall mid package, he’s behind Cripps, Cerra, Walsh, Hewett, Kennedy and Docherty.

I don’t think Austin would have had to think too hard about letting either/both of them go given the evidence he has available.

I wish Jack Martin’s body would allow him to play more midfield minutes.

The Lions taught us a massive lesson.

How GWS, Lions and Collingwood have played this finals series. Their ability to run and carry and apply pressure with leg speed.

We need to open our eyes and take notice.

There are a few teams building from the bottom up who are going that way too. St Kilda are one of them. Adelaide and Sydney also look to be embracing fast legs.

If we go into 2024 slow. We will be lucky to play finals.

The team Voss selected for finals. being a big heavy slow team. Leaving out a heap of our good runners. It's worrying.

If that finals team is the team we go with through the 2024 season we will not make finals.

I think we need to do what we can to keep Dow and Fisher.

List management wise we need to pay a heap more respect towards leg speed, run and carry and evasiveness and creativeness.

We need to build a side that plays a faster more open game and has good closing speed. We need to cut down the big, heavy immobile bodies in the team.

We made team selections this finals series. Nearly cost us game to Sydney and Melbourne and probably cost us the Brisbane game. Dow and Fisher should have definitely been in the team. Selecting Kennedy as sub was horrendous.

Going into that last final without Cuningham, Owies, Fisher and Dow was a mistake.

I think we need to learn from this and realise we are a better side with these guys in the team than with them out.

Recruitment needs to be heavily focused on leg speed and ball carrying.

If it's possible we must retain Fisher and Dow.
Finally a poster that sees the game as it is today, not an era that is past us.
Couldn't agree more with the leg speed, can't apply pressure if you can't get there quick enough and you can't make the opposition accountable if you can't move the ball with precise kicking skills! Contested marking is over rated due to zone defenses and intercept marking, if you rely on it you form the bad habit of bombing it long way too often instead of lowering the eyes and hitting a target, dump kicks onto f50 should only be done when you are absolutely forced with intense pressure and being outnumbered otherwise handball!

100% I actually never saw this defensive liability from Fisher. He didn't have goals kicked on him. He didn't have a forward get a heap of the ball against him.

I don't know what sort of liability he was when he was getting 28, 24, 32 and 24 possessions at half back, running with the ball, hitting difficult targets, getting us through and around the press and we were winning games without having to work so hard or be so physical. This is exactly what we needed from one of our defenders last night to get over Brisbane. It's what we needed Against Sydney and Melbourne too so the games weren't so close. It's why Charlie has hardly kicked a goal this finals series.

Dow has leg speed and carried the ball forward which opens the game up for the forwards. Cripps, Hewett, Kennedy don't do that. Walsh does but when he's the only one he gets targeted. Cerra didn't do it all finals series, came back underdone. Docherty didn't play on the ball this finals series.

Bad team selection is bad coaching. What kind of coach things you can win games with no outside game and no run and carry. It's crazy.

When you look at how well we played to get into finals, how we embraced run and carry and speed around the ball and look at the team selection for finals it's crazy, really is. There is nothing about any of it that makes sense. Right down to Kennedy being the Sub last night. It's all mindless. Coach didn't learn a thing.

Looks a natural link player.

Cotts out probably his best chance at a game but he’ll need to be a running machine to take his place.

Can he defend well enough to go HBF?

Does he mark well enough to go high HF?

I disagree with just about every point you’ve made here … but in regards to the highlighted: the kind of coach who has just led us to two finals wins in a season for the first time in 24 years.

The Blues acknowledge more change is needed, and Cook made clear the Blues’ plans in an interview on 3AW.

“We will probably do the same this draft as we did last draft, which is to try and pick up three or four good kids, and pick up one player either through trade or free agency. If we do that next year and the year after, I think we’ll have great depth,” said Cook

Give Philp another year, if it is only injury holding him back. I can't remember if he can kick or his footy IQ, but we need his speed. Philp could be the Marchbank of 2024

Philp is nowhere near as talented as Marchy. If he gets fit he is still no certainty to be best 22.

Given it is a shallow draft he may get a go on our rookie list in 2024 but I’m not confident he makes it, I would prefer we recruit some durability at HFF.

He said something really interesting at the function yesterday, when he came in, he cut down the sub committees from 16 to 6 - anyone who been around sub committees knows how big a change that it is.
Those committees talk lots, make very few actual decisions that aren’t watered down & there’s very little accountability for the decisions made. Thought that was very telling as to how the club was being run.
Was great to see & hear him for the few minutes he was there (obviously very pressed for time & a few functions to get too)

Really?! Let’s retain a player who fumbles, can’t kick and can’t get on the park because he’s fast?? Ridiculous. Better off drafting a really quick 18yo and giving him a chance. It’s crazy how his absence elevates his status in some eyes, Philp needs to be the first one cut.

Marchbank very good last night. Must keep.

Williams, Cuningham, durdin maybe even philp have the pace to play mid / fwd high half forward and are good users. Maybe binns also.

Honey, Dow, fisher, plowman, ed, s durdin out.

Pay out LOB and maybe mirkov due to health.

3 picks in the top 30 to 40 .

Keep 1 spot for mid season.

1 rookie and 1 trade in or FA.

Agreed with most. Need a bit more speed and good ball users to balance us out.

I’m pretty bullish with developing from within. I can see all of Cowan, Binns & Williams playing plenty of games in 2024. Hollands to be moved into our midfield rotations.

Yes to Philp being rookied. I’d also retain big Durds as depth KPD.

Not a snowflakes chance that we keep Dow and fish. Their papers are stamped. Hoping we find a home LOB who has one year left on his contract.

I also feel the Mirkov experiment will end.

DELISTED/TRADED
Dow
Fish
Honey
Plow
Ed
LOB
Mirkov

Not sure who we recruit, but hoping for some leg speed.
