current player contracts from footywire..not sure how accurate (i think tdk is contracted til end of 24 - after he signed a 2 year deal?)

Looking at end of 2023, i think we should be looking to delist/trade or retire (Edcurnow) the following in bold....

(edit: am a bit unsure on Guv...mind says trade but heart says keep)

Tend to agree, although is only recently that the athletic ruck has become a thing, prob hasn’t been a good one since Adam Goodes. However when our midfield is firing we are clearance strong, to do that we need first possession and a ruck that can feed our mids is critical.. prob the annoying thing is this has been an obvious flaw in our list for min 3 years yet we have done sfa about it.

if TDK leaves it frees up about $500k we would have spent on him, lose Dow and Jack Martin, Fogarty, Plowman & March and then offering $800k to Darcy seems viable.
I am not convinced going after Darcy is going to get us to the next level, if TDK elects to leave, l would much rather take the extra draft picks and get a few picks in the top 10-15 in this draft and take the longer term view.

Fremantle now have Jackson & Darcy and are in worst shape than last season.

go into season 2024 with Pittonet and Mirkov as our Rucks… no thanks.

fair point...i guess it comes down to having the right mix of ruck and mids as well as having a good understanding of how to play effectively together.

This also depends on where you see our list and when our window is, if you don’t believe we can ctend 8n the next 2-3 years then taking draft picks makes sense… however I feel we are closer and should be contending as soon as this year.. so drafting A player that will take years to impact our side is of little value.

It’s already been said, but it’s not necessary to expend too much capital on a ruckman. And while I’m not advocating pushing TDK out, it’d make strategic and list management sense to at least consider the benefit /cost equation of letting him go (given the apparent quality of the first round draftees).

why do you feel it’s not necessary.. IMO it’s the biggest hole in our list and has been since Kruzer left, and I feel is a considerable portion of what is holding us back from taking the next step to be able to compete for a flag.. If spending capital in salary cap and picks allows us to bridge that gap then it’s worth every cent. We have already wasted another year by starting season 2023 without an AFL standard ruck, to do that again in 24 would be disastrous..

Sure getting a nice shiny new toy from a top 15 draft pick is nice, but how does that toy help us win a flag in 24-25 when our list is peaking.

Martin is not getting delisted with a year running on a contract and won’t be traded .. no one would want him so we will have him for another year unfortunately .. hopefully for our sake his calves hold Up for more then 2 weeks

Jack Martin is pretty much a sunk asset at this point (we would have to pay another club to take him off our books)

Ben on his way to us?

All the media talk/speculation more like it.
They need something to get clicks/reactions.

Have seen nothing anywhere on the Club stating publicly that they want Ben.

Can't see it happening.

He's played 53 games since his debut in 2017 and is injury prone.

We don't need another injury prone player when we have an abundance of them on the list already imo!

It’s the value you get from the overall outlay… Reckon there’s good value to be gotten from a very good ruckman that can push forward without breaking the bank (salary and pick wise). And better return for that draft pick on another key gap in our list. And would only be happy giving up a late first round pick for a high end ruck if we had a higher pick available for someone like TDK. Has to be a whole-of-list-calculus. There’s a couple earlier posts that have offered some analysis but honestly it’s been my view for a while.

Since when would we publicly state we want a player from another club during the season?

That’s unheard of

IMO over the next 5-7 yrs we don’t need a ruckman who can go forward, we have 2 gun tall forwards. I want a ruckman who can bash, crash, tap & mark around the ground. Would prefer a giant who is imposing & gives us a solid bail out option taking marks between HF & HB.
We have the inside mids, we don’t need the ruck to win clearance (he can tap it to them) we need him to physically impose himself on the opposition. 110kg monster ruck who’s mean would be awesome
