Im more thinking along the lines of Hodge, Lewis, Smith, Gunston types, who leave their club past their best to have a crack at a flag or move in to coaching.

Players like Guthrie, Boak off the top of my head
Not too sure that we are in need of that sort of influx of leadership anymore. Ir that type of player.
Particularly if Jack Martin stays fit.

And Travis Boak is well and truly cooked.

Not Boak specifically but that age group or experience level, is there anyone you think suits our needs?
Personally I don't think that we need that type anymore. Probably up to last year there might have been some benefits.

We have a rock hard leadership group. TDK has just gone on record saying that one of the reasons he re-signed was his respect for Cripps. So the only reason that we'd need someone on their "way down" would be talent.

I think that we are pretty much in the "our list is pretty strong" phase where we need to top it up with kids and maybe some cheap free agents/trades. Hollands might be worth a look if we can actually ascertain why there has been such a big difference between what he looked like he might be as opposed to what he has become if that makes sense.

From the Hun

Paddy Dow seems destined to find his way to St Kilda as the Blues’ late-season charge gives them trade collateral to get back into the national draft for the second straight year. Carlton expects Dow to find his way to St Kilda and Zac Fisher to play at Arden Street next year, with both players out of the side but having benefited from recent surges in form.
The Blues have given away their second and third-round picks, having secured Ollie Hollands, Lachie Cowan, VFL Team of the Year member Jaxon Binns and Harry Lemmey in the draft last year as well as summer rookie Alex Cincotta.
Carlton will expect reasonable compensation from the Roos for Fisher given he has two years to run and could secure a five-year deal. So the Blues could top up their draft hand, then give a future pick to Gold Coast if the Elijah Hollands deal goes through.
The Blues have been keen to hit the draft hard all year but didn’t have much to give up and yet Dow has climbed off the footy scrapheap and Fisher has found form at half back.

I'd rather use a first round pick rather than trade it for someone average like Hollands. See what is available for trade next year

Fisher and Dow are likely gone. Philp, Plowman and Honey will probably be delisted.

Cincotta and Cottrell should be elevated to the main list.

So assuming no Free agents are picked up, 2 rookie elevations and 3 draft picks should be all we need to do.

Then exactly what would we trade for him? We don't have a second or third pick.

Fisher would probably be a future 2nd and Dow would be a late 3rd. Gold Coast would be expecting more than that
There's no way Gold Coast would be expecting a 1st for him. He's not worth anything like that. As per the above quoted article, we could use a future pick. Or we could on-trade what we get for Dow, or for Fisher.

Future 2nd is whats been reported in the media, forget the source but was earlier this week

I hope so. He had great write ups in his draft year and I have a good feeling that he will be a great pick up.

By the way, so glad you are posting again ... I really missed your posts when you weren't!
My dad 'educated' me about how good Soapy Vallence was when I was just an ankle biter way back when (I remember seeing John James and Graham Donaldson in the first game my dad took me to).
Just seeing a post from 'Soapy V' takes me back to that time.

I don't know. I just know we are keen and have spoken with him a few times

We were keen to get GCS early picks but I think there are a few ahead of us. I think we will be fairly quiet this year
The only way that is going to happen is this years 1st and next year's 1st to have some chance.

It's still too much, we forget that Acres had form before we traded for him and Young is in a big form slump. Both of those players were cheaper, too. Lightening probably won't strike twice.
Future 2nd could be pick 45-50 odd next year with the amount of academy kids and father sons in the draft. For a kid who was rated as a number 1 pick talent in his draft year but had a tough few years since with injury and form it seems pretty reasonable to me given he's only 21 but each to their own.
