Not a big secret, but we would benefit from being able to move the ball with greater speed and precision. We arguably don’t have any players whose kicking is legitimately AFL Elite - a “weapon”. A bit more zing a creativity and speed from the back and taking the ball forward with lower, more penetrating faster kicks.

Williams could be part of the answer here, and if he can get fit he’ll be a big gain.

A dangerous hybrid forward who can compete in the air would be great, too. Our smalls all chase and tackle, but their complete lack of overhead ability was a liability in the finals series when rushed kicks went forward. Someone who can take a hanger on occasion would add another dimension to the forward line where Owies, Motlop, Fog all are a bit samey.

I can this side challenging on 2024

B: Boyd Weitering McGovern
HB: Williams Kemp Saad
C: Acres Cripps Binns
HF: Motlop McKay E.Hollands
F: Martin Curnow Durdin
Foll: TDK Cerra Walsh
Int: Silvagni O.Hollands Hewett Docherty
Cowan Cincotta Newman Lemmey Owies

That’s the core. Only 6 months away 😎
I’d fit Marchbank and Cottrell in, both were very good the finals…

He struggled through the finals when the F50 became more congested and the ball was sat on his head under pressure rather than to his advantage. Whilst he can take a massive mark he is not the type of full forward to split packs for four quarters of the game. He was at his best when we found him in space and gave him a 1on1, where he is all but unstoppable.

I definitely think you’re right and CHF will be his go from 2024 and beyond. Though there’s no reason why Charlie and Harry can’t swap in game depending on the way it’s unfolding. Both have experience close to goal and up the ground now.

I think there are 2 reasons why:
1. Containing the loads on Charlie’s body, we are now 2 full seasons so we should have the confidence now to up the loads a bit
2. Harry’s kicking at goal, he’s got a big off-season to really hone in on a set routine and stick to it

Really excited to see who we will add over the coming months. Sounds like Elijah Hollands could join. James Harmes was mentioned a few weeks ago but who knows. Both would help, sounds like Hollands is more likely of the two to come across. This team made a PF, so I hope Nick Austin doesn’t rest on his laurels and just adds one player and calls it a day.

Williams coming back in is like a new recruit. Binns will get a shot next year and I am very excited about getting him into the seniors. He could be our 2024 Ollie Hollands.

I’m not a Marchbank fan. Injury prone and poor skills. I hope he is a depth player

Cottrell for me has the ability but goes missing a lot. Like Cuningham they need to be more consistent over 4 quarters. That’s their challenge

When we get to the top end we need more and need to be better and IMO these players need to improve or be replaced in our best 22

Just me take on it

Then say “a powerful burst midfielder”. I pointed out those two players because they are extremely rare in their skill set and impact on games. The likelihood of getting anyone with their skill set alone is rare. I get what he was saying now, just didn’t make sense to use those two as examples. That’s like saying we need a Gary Ablett Snr type third forward
Dude take a Bex and have a lay down, and one G Ablett Sr would be handy, even in his sixties!!!!!

Binns is an interesting case. was in the best players virtually every week, looks a neat kick and a good runner. Looks like he surveys his options well when choosing where to kick.

But we’re so well served off the HBF and wing, where does he play? Did he play midfield minutes in the 2’s?

The Lions taught us a massive lesson.

How GWS, Lions and Collingwood have played this finals series. Their ability to run and carry and apply pressure with leg speed.

We need to open our eyes and take notice.

There are a few teams building from the bottom up who are going that way too. St Kilda are one of them. Adelaide and Sydney also look to be embracing fast legs.

If we go into 2024 slow. We will be lucky to play finals.

The team Voss selected for finals. being a big heavy slow team. Leaving out a heap of our good runners. It's worrying.

If that finals team is the team we go with through the 2024 season we will not make finals.

I think we need to do what we can to keep Dow and Fisher.

List management wise we need to pay a heap more respect towards leg speed, run and carry and evasiveness and creativeness.

We need to build a side that plays a faster more open game and has good closing speed. We need to cut down the big, heavy immobile bodies in the team.

We made team selections this finals series. Nearly cost us game to Sydney and Melbourne and probably cost us the Brisbane game. Dow and Fisher should have definitely been in the team. Selecting Kennedy as sub was horrendous.

Going into that last final without Cuningham, Owies, Fisher and Dow was a mistake.

I think we need to learn from this and realise we are a better side with these guys in the team than with them out.

Recruitment needs to be heavily focused on leg speed and ball carrying.

If it's possible we must retain Fisher and Dow.

Post preliminary final, how do we get better:

1 Need an upgrade on Pittonett

2 Speed - we have some in Philp, Cuningham, Saad, Williams. Also McGovern. Possibly Corey Durdin.

3. Kicking into F50 / cohesion in forward line

What trade chips do we get for Dow, Fisher and Young?

Ed Curnow retired.

Interested in what we do with L’Ob, Honey, Plowman and Carroll.

Forgot about Carroll.

Best thing about trading Dow is it will stop our supporters turning an average footballer into a messiah
Was a main driver in the middle of the ground with wins over St Kilda, Melbourne and for a half over Collingwood. Was one of our main ball winners in there. Does things only Walsh can do and finished this season playing a lot better football than what Cerra dished up in finals.

He's not a 30-40 possession player. He's a high impact 20-27 possession player. We could really do with a player like that in our team. It's exactly what we lacked this finals series.

It keeps getting brought up because we have a coach who didn't learn anything from our winning streak and is too much of a rigid thinker to change his mind and opinions.

We were all watching, Dow was damn good a key part in some big wins that dragged this team into finals.

Shouldn't have been dropped along with Fisher.

Interesting no one has mentioned Carroll in our midfield mix.

Still only 20 and had an injury prone year. Problem is he is no different to what we have. More an accumulator but I think he can play
Think he could be a really good link up player if he comes on, didn't seem to progress a lot this year, hopefully has a good preseason etc

Disagree. You are turning a supplementary player that is used in case of injury into a messiah
