Position 2023 Midfielders

Oliver 130+ 25 times last three years
Macrea 130+ 23 times last three years
Bont 130+ 18 times last three years
Cripps 130+ 18 times last three healthy years (skipping 2020-2021 due to injury issues)

Laird 130+ 15 times last three years
Laird moved permanently into the midfield last year, seems disingenuous to compare years where he wasn't a permanent midfielder.

Laird actually moved to the midfield halfway through 2020 , played all 2021 and 2022 in mids.
Great for SuperCoach but killed Crows drive from half back and Matt Crouch’s career ☹️

Freo Players Update

Serong: I went hard last year on this board hyping him up but a knee injury slowed down his first month making looking me stupid. Hasnt missed a beat this preseason and every training report has hyped him up. He's not the fantasy pig type player of his mate though so buyer beware. For regular AFL DT I think he averages 100-105.

JOM: Will be starting on ball, has looked hungry and could get that average back up around 95 I THINK. Some small money making to be had there if your looking for a mid price mid to round out the midfield

Brayshaw: Only reason he wont repeat last years average is if he gets a hard tag every single week

Brodie: While you obviously wouldnt touch in regular DT, I'd be very weary even in draft - job security is low with Johnson and Erasmus banging down the door

Ras/Johnson: One of these two is going to force their way in in the first month or so, get them in as soon as that happens for a very nice cash cow

O'Driscoll: Came back to the club in not the best shape. If you think there's some value there in draft as a late pick, I'd be cautious

Happy to answer any questions on other players I might have missed

Fyfe ?

Prob less mid time or .....

I talked about him in the forwards because I'm not sure he's a relevant mid. so I'll copy that over here.

Fyfe: Looking a million bucks as he continues to build but looks like he'll be playing exclusively forward at this stage. Could get the average back up to 90 so defs some potential value but I'm always weary on the injury. Still, could be an early mid-priced cash cow before trading him out as soon as possible before the inevitable injury hits

Worth noting across all my posts that I'm a DT player so I'm not sure on supercoach averages but I got quoted on this sub so posted a bunch of stuff haha

Johnson any chance for round 1? Needs an injury or two?

He's a chance, he'd be in my team because Brodie on top of JOM and Serong is a bit too samey for me but JL is pretty conservative at selection table. Different reports have had Erasmus or Johnson as the better player through preseason so even if there's an injury he might not be first in. They are both really close though so if there's no other cash cow option, sticking one on the bench might be worth the gamble to start the year

Keen to get Tigers fans thoughts on some points regarding Tarranto.

My main concern with him is the tigers game plan which generally doesnt favour mids getting high possesions and big supercoach points. Will the Tigers game plan evolve now they have recruited 2 high calibre inside mids? Was the lack of possesions from tigers mids more of a reflection on the game plan or lack of quality players in that part of the ground.

Even prestia, the tigers best pure mid throughout their 3 peat era has been a poor scorer throughout his time at punt despite being decent at the goldcoast.

Think our game plan will evolve. We never worried about clearances before. Didn't matter we'd turn it over and counter attack and score that way. We'd often let teams have a extra at stoppages and use ours as 7th defender. Doesn't really work anymore with a slightly weaker defense, 666 and the man on the mark rules. We struggled to stop teams.

I'm still 50/50 on Taranto. Want to see him play first. I know he'll improve his averages with more mid time alone. Mainly wary of his ball use, 1st picked in DT though!

Not ruck thread, but wondering your thoughts on Darcy. Seriously considering him in my team regardless of Jackson. Has he had a fautlless pre season, and your general thoughts? Thanks.

Try the ruck thread? Poster commented on all relevant Freo players in their respective thread.

I posted in the ruck thread on this but yeah, I’d say faultless preseason, of course with Darcy a niggle or proper injury is just around the corner but I can see him getting back to the 2021 average this year or higher. The way we are using Jackson I don’t think he takes points off him.

I think he’s worth thinking about as a cheaper “premium” option that can save you some dollars then you turn him into a better ruck a month or so into it

Will Newcombe get tagged this season or are there other Hawthorn midfielders that a tag would have more of a impact on the game?

Someone's going to tag a HAW player

Lachie Ash. Will he get significant midfield time with the loss of TT and Hopper?

He seems to get a fair bit of the ball but plays different roles and may need big numbers to score given average disposal efficiency.

Hopper seems a lot safer but I don't mind Ash if given the right role. GWS fans probably know more?

Anyone else surprised at Laird’s ownership percentage? I get that he is more expensive than a premo hooker in Dubai, but he was ridiculously consistent last year. Might not have hit the same massive scores as regularly as say Oliver, but after missing the first couple rounds through injury he got going pretty quickly, and then post bye went bonkers
