The last couple of years have derailed when injury hit midfielders. Depth is holding us back.
We weren't winning a premiership the last couple of years even without any injuries. If a few of Owens, Windy, Pou, Coff(still hoping), etc become a graders and maybe top with a gun free agent kpd we'll be in the business.

What about the Kemp (?) kid at Carlton?
You were keen on him.
Any chance?
I should tell you that I visited the Blues's game day thread for Syd v Carl, the Blueser fans were pouring out their spite for Kemp by the bucket load, haven't seen that here since Dustan was moved on.

Not that the blues are really great judges of players or anything COUGH Stocker COUGH Caminiti

We might have taken Rozee instead, assuming we worked out that Naughton could play forward.

LWPs "Hindsight Saints" starting 23 -

2012 - Keep our picks, no trading for Tom Lee, Hickey etc. Take Grundy at pick 12. Aiden Corr at 13. Not much in this draft TBH.
2013 - Bont, Merrett & McStay over Billings, Dunstan & Acres. Charlie Cameron over Eli Templeton in the rookie draft.
2014 - Take the GWS deal - Picks 1 + 22 for 4 + 6. Draft De Goey (4), Lever (6) & Touk Miller (21). Take Caleb Daniel over Jack Lonie. Sinc a rookie.
2015 - Keep the Carlisle deal. Bid on Dunkley instead of taking Gresham. Swans didn't match as Josh wanted to stay in VIC at the time. Matt Flynn over Brandon White. Sam Collins over Bailey Rice. Tom Papley in the rookie draft.
2016 - Keep the Steele trade. Take Shai Bolton over Ben Long. Tom Stewart over Josh Battle. Luke Ryan over Ed Phillips. RoMa in the rookie draft was good too.
2017 - Naughton and Zac Bailey over Clark and Coff. Harry Petty over Clavarino. I like the Ben Paton pick but could argue for Kane Farrell or Jack Payne. Liam Baker in the rookie draft.
2018 - Can King and Naughton work together? I rekon they can. Keep the Bytel pick. Lachie Schultz over Nick Hind. Take Marlion Pickett over Robbie Young. Wilkie in the rookie draft a steal.
2019 - Dont trade for Hill, Doogs and Ryder. Take Serong pick 6. Byrnes all good. Connelly fine. No idea who Jack Bell was but use that rookie pick on Ben Keays.
2020 - Trade for Higgins. Errol Gulden over Matty Allison. Highmore good depth.
2021 - Heath and Sharman midseason all good. Van Rooyan over Nas. Match Owens and Windy. Oscar Adams any good? Greg Clark looks handy at the Eagles. Grab him instead.
2022 - Phillipou a great pick. Leave the rest. Impossible to judge.

FB: Wilkie - Collins - Lever
HB: Ryan - Stewart - Sinclair
C: Daniel - Merrett - Bailey
HF: De Goey - Naughton - Papley
FF: C.Cameron - King - Marshall
R: Grundy - Bontempelli - Miller
I: Dunkley - Steele - Bolton - Serong
S: Owens

Depth:
KPD: Corr - Carlisle (ret) - Petty - JVE
KPF: McStay - Van Rooyan - Keeler
3rd talls: Highmore - Sharman
Smalls: Paton - Schultz - Connolly - Higgins
Mids: Bytel - Byrnes - Pickett - Baker - Windhager - G.Clark - Pou - Hotton - Keays - Gulden
Rucks: Flynn - Heath

All feeling better now?
good list, except for van spewan. Tbf I havent watched him play but Nas could be anything, he's tracking very well, 200 gamer multiple AAs if he keeps up this rate ;)

JVR looks like they found another Naughton type of power forward. Looks a very high end talent. Nas looks like a smooth moving distributor but not a guy who'll sell a heap of merchandise. Nas is like one of those Hawks players who could cut sides open with their kicking and vision.

I know this is getting too far ahead, but Gee I hope we try and have a crack at McCluggage next season as a free agent. Absolutely the player we need, good skills covers the ground well and gets shots on goals (even though he's goal kicking needs work). Absolute A grader

Hes be unreal as a pick up. You'd be nuts to leave Brisbane at the moment though.

******* hell that looks like the all australian team! wings a bit s**t

Could have taken Ed Langdon for a true winger. Would have been over Caleb Daniel I think.

Not bad ay? Amazing what a decade of hindsight and being able to change picks on the fly can do!

I made that call just from a balance perspective. Had plenty of mids.

Could absolutely get Nas on the wing and take a KPF elsewhere. That's the great part of hindsight drafting; You can always move the goalposts and do it again!

Did anyone pick up a diamond in the rough during the mid season draft?
To me it looks like a few given a second chance to be better than "below average", and some prospective talls, ( which we already have a few of ).

I can't understand the Hawks moves.

They now have NINE ruck or ruck/forward options on their list after yesterday.

Reeves - 209cm - Ruck
Clay Tucker - 204cm - Ruck
Ramsden - 203cm - Ruck
Meek - 203cm - Ruck
Lynch - 200cm - Ruck/Forward
Lewis - 200cm - KPF
Brandon Ryan - 200cm - Forward/Ruck
Jeka - 198cm - KPF
Kosi Jnr - 196cm - Forward/Ruck

Seems like absolute overkill.

Everyone was talking about Caleb before the draft , that he was such a great player but is so short. Would anyone pick him up?

I don't think we did ourselves any favours by picking Lonie and his 3 cm "advantage " ahead of Daniel.
If in doubt pick the guy who can play footy.

The Saints scout for SA had told them to take him and that he'd be a star, we all watched his videos and got excited when he was still there at the Lonie pick. We went short but stuffed it up.

Wasn't it because Lonie was from down the road and Daniel was from SA? Go home factor etc.

I doubt it, they had no problem picking guys like Acres and Dunstan. A pick in the 40s was hardly a huge risk.

There is a dearth of them of them across the competition, so perhaps they are collecting some trade capital for the future? Could be a smart move looking forward.

Yeah but Jack makes his bed. Hospital corners.

It was mostly because we were crap at drafting.

Pelchan scuppered it. There was footage of the recruiters talking about potentials, got to Daniel and his attributes were brought up, including Morrish medal, Pelcan pipes up and says something like, he will get ragdolled, basically dismissing him as too small, goes for the giant Lonie.

I was very disappointed we didn't select Daniel.

Pelchen was such a **** up. He couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery, he did more damage in a short period than anyone. Trout at least tried hard even if it wasn't his area of talent, I'm not convinced that Pelchen wasn't a monorail salesman before coming to us. Straight after he'd been a snake-oil salesman.
