I grew up in a country town where maybe 20 of the 20,000 residents went for North.
Got my first full- time job in Melbourne, and in a department of 12, 5 were North supporters and 1 was married to a North fan. I thought we must be hugely popular everywhere except where I grew up.
Anyway that was 30 years ago and I've worked with maybe 4 Roo boys/ girls ever since. Oh well.

Where does Goater sit in the current list and the list going forward with all these potential 5x draftee's plus Stephens and Fisher?
Other people might be a bit lower on him but I think he locks down the other HBF opposite Fisher this season.

His game against GCS last year was fantastic, once he builds his confidence to use his pace off half back more regularly, he'll be an absolute weapon for us.

Also would open up Sheezel to play more fwd/mid.

They still have a fair few 30+ players on their list, as Scott would say, self-inflicted damage. Their list has the potential to fall apart completely in 2-3 years. I don't think the solution is to dilute their quality pick just to fill seats.

I think a more sane approach would be to try and buy surplus picks teams don't want with future 2nd, 3rds and 4th round picks, ie trade live for perhaps surplus picks GC didn't burn, etc. Get another couple of 2nd rounders if possible and go to the draft with 8+3x 2nd rounders and then burn similar 2025 picks to bring in more currency into 2024.

We would still be offering 1st rd picks, so hardly just filling seats... their pick 8 will be the leftovers of the so called first tier

We aren't trading next year's first, so can drop that from discussions I reckon.
I would be much more ok trading F1st +15,17/18 than either 2/3+17+18.

A future 1st has so much less value than 2/3 this year.

I really believe we will win 5-8 games next year and be out of the bottom 3.

Wats weirder is that you met me and Trumpet in that group of friends around that time as well

I suspect that our Hawklioniger mate will eventually jump ship, such is his love of three peat Flag winners, and become a Roo

I wore a North beanie into the Sutherland shire for my youngest’s swimming lesson last week. A 60-something year old lady approached me to say that she had to strike up a conversation cause her husband is a North supporter, and she’d only ever met one other in Sydney before. #NSWShinbonerLyf

Hes a ways off it until he learns to hit a stationary target. Doesn’t have to become nick daicos, but needs to be reliable enough.
One of our biggest problems off the last few seasons is that we have too many stationary targets.

Typically 5 wins would not move us from the bottom 3 we would need 7 and a very good %.

This year the side in 4th bottom had 9 wins.

I think we are likely to win more games next year than we have in the last few combined.

In terms of much less value it probably doesn't present as hugely different on a pick to pick basis. I mean we are probably talking the difference of 2-3 to pick 3-4.

The difference arises in that by trading pick 2, West Coast could sell that as only moving back one spot. If we were selling the future pick they are moving back unknown amount of spots with the inability to know who they will take with the pick. If they took 2 this year they would be taking McKercher.

I think it is highly doubtful any offer tabled is taken, which is fine. West Coast have been worse in 23 than we have been at any point in this whole torrid time period. more than happy for them to take only 2 meaningful picks to the draft and take years to dig themselves out.

I really like the idea of live trading with Freo for overs for one of the teen picks. I really want Ports 24 f1.

last few?

We haven't had a forward line that moves since W80 was in there.

That's not completely true but close. W80s last year was five seasons ago tho - that just scrapes in as a few.

Buit I'm really talking about across the whole ground. So often when we pass the ball we are flat footed and it drives alot of our turnovers between the arcs. Taking two or three steps and marking the ball in front of you on the move is better than standing flat footed waiting for the ball to arrive. other teams know we do it and sit off us waiting. Its why we seem to be so vulnerable to front running sides. They set up for it.

Past performance is not an indicator of future results.

Or something like that.

I don’t think the trade will happen, but I certainly don’t think Leake, OSullivan won’t be left overs
