Rankine and Peatling are both in the top 5% in comp for mid speed

If they can become mainstays and thrive as mids then our midfield speed will be good

No guarantee they can , but signs are good for both

Similarly people see Curtin as a big bodied mid and Edwards showed positive signs late in the season
Depends on where the club sees the development at of each type

Fitness will take ages as he first needs to acknowledge it then work out how to train it then actually do it

2-3 years min I reckon

Given his agility test and 20m were solid - I seriously doubt he gave his best for the 2km. Will be an interesting watch in pre season
I do think we have deliberately hidden him to a degree

Yeah same.
I don't think, for just one example, Lalor might go as well for us as he would for others because even Dusty would have trouble being Dusty in our contested gameplan where our mids are setup with opponents outside them all the time. It makes it much harder to break away.

One thing that helps us break out of the contested game is when we can move it by kick mark kick mark. Langford would be very helpful to that cause. He's another Dawson (and I think Peatling and Cumming might also be a couple of Dawson's so we'll be spoilt for Dawson's next year!! ) Whereas Draper's agility and fast gives mean he's suited to our handball chaining it out methods. Either, or, not really bothered, both of those def good for us.

All 3 are excellent marks and will create confusion for direct opponents when exiting defence as all can spread and not be predictable. Agree with if he stayed at WWT he would have been thought of more highly. That should with his 8 goals in the one U 18 Sanfl game he played.
You may know - how many forwards kicked 8 goals in a game this year at any state league or national comp level? Probably none?

I think the kid will do just fine on his 2km when officially on our list. Not top of the pops - but no worse than Taylor was doing this time last year when lagging behind the group

Surely you're not suggesting that talent ID professionals are that simple that they can't calibrate performances between the various comps? Seriously, that's a stupid assertion.

He’s got a cannon boot for sure, but I wouldn’t say he has ‘fantastic’ foot skills

Not a whole lot, usually those expected to go in the 1st round are mostly the highly dedicated types that have had a burning desire to play AFL.

The problem with Tyler it appears he has known for quite some time he was almost certainly going to be a Crow.

I still think if he'd stayed at WWT he would have carved up the SA U18 comp and probably therefore been thought of a lot higher. I guess the thought was by Adelaide get him in so he sees how hard he needs to work at the higher level?

Someone mentioned he left school this year too which might not help with more unstructured time on his hands, can anyone confirm that?

He did leave school.

Was heavily involved in the Crows Next Gen Academy squads at the club. Did a sterling job there.

Then you haven't watched enough of Sam Lalor, he'd just run through them and fend them off with a stiff arm jolt.

Really.
So if he played u18 all year as the number 1 option and likely kicks 50 plus goals and dominates the comp. Leading goal kicker played 19 games for 38 goals

Or plays the whole year against men, as the 2-3 or even 4th option - very hard to compare

yes recruiters can calibrate performances but it’s hard to do when you’re talking different roles and competitions.

Even you should be able to work that out!

Langford will probably have a really nice career, but at a surface level, analysing only the physical / athletic traits and strengths and weaknesses of each potential draftee, it’s somewhat of a nonsense selecting Langford for OUR list over both Jagga and Sid IMO. All of Curtin, Dawson, Hinge, Worrell and Langford in the same side would be weird, and throw in the slowness of Crouch, Sholl, Laird (let’s be serious, Nicks is picking him) and at times Berry (plus I wouldn’t describe guys like Taylor and Dowling as having express speed either) and the mix just makes far more sense with the unique explosiveness of Draper thrown in than it does with Langford.

Having said that, there’s always more to these things than we know. For instance, maybe Jagga is seen by non-Vic teams as a genuine flight risk? Maybe Sid goes in the top 3, or maybe we have real concerns about his kicking / decision making? Maybe Langford is viewed as future captaincy material. Maybe Langford comes from the nicest family. Maybe the next Fischer McAsey lurks in the beautiful mind of Hamish over the next Caleb Serong / Hayden Young / Kozzie Pickett / Will Day. Etc.


In a hypothetical scenario where Sid and Langford are both available at our pick, I will be absolutely stunned if we pick Langford and will go on record as saying it’s a mistake, but only because of the current balance of our playing group.

If Sid is gone, and Langford and Smith are both there, I wouldn’t be “surprised” by either. I’d take Smith, but who knows what Hamish will do in that scenario. If he took neither it would be a laugh.

If Langford is gone and Sid and Smith are both there, I wouldn’t be surprised by either. Because that feels really close, it seems more likely that we’d take the local, but we may well rate Smith a full rung higher.

In the unlikely event that FOS fell through, I don’t think we’ll take him under any circumstances. Reeks of being poached by a big Vic club before 2030 if an interstate team pulls the trigger. Not sure there’s any substance to that, but that’s my gut feel on him.

In the seemingly extremely unlikely event that Lalor fell through, I’d like to think we’d snap him over everyone, but this seems like a 0.5% chance of being on the table.

Agree with all of this, except I wasn't aware of the go home factor with FOS. Do you get this feeling from anywhere in particular?

Seems like a really genuine country kid that is open to moving. Geelong the only real team I could see him going back to VIC for. He's not too close to Sam Walsh apparently. They're only step cousins I think.

Just a vibe with FOS not leaving Vic. No info on this from anywhere. Gut feel, reinforced by West Coast’s willingness to essentially give him up. Could be wrong.

I want a midfielder that is a top end evasive footballer that can read where the ruck taps are going and burst away from a stoppage. How many games we watch the opposition run out of centre with the ball and we are on the defensive. I don't see langford as a dynamic mid. Draper yes. Smith...reads it beautifully and positions well from the little i have seen of him on highlights. Lalor absolutely will have those attributes as he develops

Can't help but feel the Langford noise is a misdirect, lots of ducks and drakes going on with such an even pool and lots of clubs with multiple picks and possibly quite a bit of pick movement still to come.

North obviously want to trade out of 2 but with Saints almost certain to take their 2 x top 10's to the draft, really only leaves Richmond as a viable buyer. They'll be thinking though, there's an excellent chance of getting Smith or Langford (who's a big Tigers fan) at 6, so why give up another top 10 for pick 2. Ironically, the chances of that happening increase if North stays at 2.

The Langford talk may be to get Richmond to take pick 2 for him - powerful mid with leadership qualities who's a big fan growing up, that's the kind of guy you want for what's looking like a rough rebuild. That leaves FOS, Draper, and Smith on the table for the other clubs.

Think there's going to be a lot of players being linked here there and everywhere and we may not have a clear understanding until the names get read out. Still think it's 70% likely Draper, 20% likely Smith, 10% someone else.

I don't know whether it's underestimation or people are crapping themselves that we'd be "too tall and slow"
