I can see Hamling Melican and Mccartin together with Rampe playing a bit of a free role potentially . Maybe that is a little oversized but Mccartin is quite good at setting up offence as well.

Get Rampe off the guys he gives up 10-15 cms too
Who of Florrent, Lloyd, Blakey you dropping?

Can't see Cunningham going out unless someone plays more lockdown small

The injured one

I'll have to consider a full team , but I like Lloyd closer to the wing. Florent may end up out of the team or up the ground

Rampe could almost play a mid sized defender lock down type role perhaps . Cunningham isn't much quicker than him really

Looking forward to the banter when Konstanty makes his debut.

Oppo Back Pocket: Welcome to the big league young Jakey Wakey. Don't get scared.

Konstanty: I tried to rip my captains arm off for fun and put him in hospital. I don't even know you.

PS. Reckon we're ok for small fwd depth. Papley, Wicks, JK, plus several others who can play/rest up forward e.g. Campbell, Sheldrick, JMac.
Good point about the resting mids. Not that you'd want them there full time but when the main men are taking a rest on the bench.

Not sure of both Hamling and Melican in the same team as McCartin. Both more effective as lockdowns. If we went for an additional tall I'd be more in favour of an interceptor type, probably Francis if his form is up to it. Not sure about Arnold in that role, maybe? Horses for courses.
The least effective one-on-one defender is Lloyd but you give up something in exits.
Sophie's choice.

Yeah, I don't agree with the sentiment that we can just replace Wicks for example with another mid.

Also, in the same manner as having mids or others who can rest/fill in up forward, we have potential mid depth from other areas, whether inside or outside e.g. Heeney, Papley, Campbell, Florent, JMac, Mitchell (was forgotten off a prior list).

The bolded is such a good point.

He's had a very good career still so it's papered over it a bit but I still reckon Horse stuffed up trying to turn him into a back pocket defender when he is so much better further up the ground.

Would Lloyd be better on a wing than Warner, Gulden, Campbell, McInerney or Jordon who are all likely to be the main wingmen next year?

I don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was.

I said it a while back, for all the exciting runners and ball users we have in our team, we never look better than when Lloyd is running and carrying. Don't see much of it now days and haven't really seen much of it past his first few years.

Those guys were also only around the last few years, so not sure what Horse's excuse before that was.

Well it's really more inside and outside mids isn't it. Lloyd can fit into that rotation imo , won't happen anyway.

His ball finding ability is outstanding , he actually also can kick a nice goal, remember the final v the Dees.

If we just have traditional 2 wingmen than yeah probably won't happen, but he is a better player right now than Campbell Jmac and Jordan- though could all leap in the pre season.

Gulden I don't think of as a winger, more of a god

Any excuse to make a B22 then:

B: Cunningham - McCartin - Rampe
HB: Florrent - Melican - Blakey
C: Lloyd - Adams - Warner
HF: Parker - McDonald - Heeney
F: Wicks - McLean - Papley
Foll: Grundy - Adams - Gulden
INT: Rowbottom - Campbell - McInerney - Amarty

Lloyd, Campbell and McInerney all able to rotate across HB and the wing. Gulden and Warner rotate inside and outside, Parker rotate forward and on ball with Adams?

I see absolutely nothing wrong with that at all.

You've got Adams twice. Mine is the same 22, with some different positions, and I've got Fox on the bench. Jordon sub.

My current 22:

FB: Melican McCartin Cunningham
HB: Blakey Rampe Lloyd
C: JMac Gulden Warner
HF: Papley McDonald Heeney
FF: Wicks McLean Amartey
R: Grundy Adams Rowbottom

Int: Parker Florent Campbell Fox

E: Ladhams Hamling Sheldrick Jordon (sub)

I'm more excited by Gus as sub tbh, and potentially Fox misses out (sadly), but I really don't think we took Jordon from a Top 4 side, having featured in most games, to just play VFL.

2x Adams is better than 1 ;)

Speaking of 22s

When I was a kid and collecting footy cards players would have positions on them, eg Full forward, wing, centre etc

Some like Tim Watson had utility

so for a while i thought there were 19 positions on the ground, including utility

So there's a boring story

My favourite player as a kid was Rohan Wharf because he had a similar last name to a character I liked in Star Trek.

Anyone producing a best XXII without Gus - tsk tsk.
With only Mills coming out and both Jordon and Adams coming in, who makes way? And Gus deserves better than the sub

Can't say for Jordan but IMO each of the others is a better wingman than Lloyd in a number of areas. Not all in all areas but speed, kick, evasion, one-on-one defence at least.
Lloyd's big strength is running into space and finding targets at around 35m. Repeatedly.
I can imagine McInerney doing Lloyd's role very effectively. Gulden doing it better but what a waste! Warner and Campbell are totally different types.

😲

Depth: A.Sheldrick (Should be best 22, but cannot figure out who he replaces, is in Mill's spot to start season).
I hope Sheldrick has set his eyes on taking Mills’ midfield minutes and not giving them back.

I have a feeling one of two things will happen when Mills comes back. He will either be in full in beast mode and surpass his 2022 midfield form, or he will be relegated to defence where he will dominate (likely at the expense of Rampe or Florent).

Both not bad outcomes. Competition for spots will be fierce.
