Funny thing about the Perth Demons. When I was in high school I had a couple of buds who were fans and I tagged along to finals matches (Swans were rubbish at the time though soon to be glorious, but I digress). That Perth team were a brilliant, tough side, robbed only by weather from a three-peat. Little did we know they would pretty much never be competitive again.

He’s done a minor strain
Minor hamstring complaint. Not read or seen reported anywhere strain. I might sound like I’m being pedantic

Language for Chapman was moderate strain:

My understanding is it more in the awareness /tightness scale.

I felt some discomfort in a match last season came off and iced. Thought I was shot for at least 3-4 weeks. Only missed 1 game (ie two weeks). It was not a strain.

“He’s got a minor hamstring” from Brierty to me sounds like he’s done his hammy but it’s a minor one I.e 21 days. I think the quoted part would be more accurate than the other parts of the article.

Holy s**t if I supported West Coast I'd go to MinRes park and burn it to the ground. That place is properly cursed. Ernie Dingo was right
I think the curse is in the name. One of the Dodgiest companies going around. Perfect fit for the filth, and one that also aligns perfectly with Nissy and his values. Reaping what they've sewn.

Concussions should be at least 3 weeks out, regardless of whose brain it is. Can't see the damage... how are you going to clear it? Gradual return to contact then play. Don't mess with players' brains.

I researched concussion at med school and the evidence has only got more conclusive since. We have very good evidence that contact sports are crap for brains.... RIP my brain

serious question for an expert. Footballers who take hard head hits (depending on their position) a few times a season on average as a general guess and we know the outcomes for those that have taken a few more. So how bad then is it in boxing and MMA when they are taking hit after hit at that level in every match and a bit during certain activities during training? Seems they would have little hope?

You don't concuss people at training, just on fight night.

In mma, there's a lot less concussion than straight boxing / kickboxing because of submissions.

But all combat sportspeople suffer from the same trauma later in life and it's a lot more prevalent IMO but it doesn't get the ratings so it's not on the radar.

I've had a few muay Thai fights and when I was going for my first fight there was a guy maybe 23 years old who had lost his last 10 fights in a row or something like that by knockout and the general theory amongst fighters is that once you've been concussed once it gets easier and easier.

Fremantle ruckman Sean Darcy has undergone an arthroscope on his left knee which will rule him out of the opening rounds of the AFL season.

“Sean pulled up sore following our match simulation against West Coast, after recovering over the week he was cleared to play Port Adelaide. Sean was withdrawn at half-time of Friday night’s practice match against Port as a precaution and subsequently pulled up sore again following the game.” said Executive General Manager of Football Joe Brierty.

“Sean was sent for a scan on Sunday and following specialist advice it was agreed with Sean that the best course of action was to complete an arthroscope to remove some of the loose bodies that were identified from the scan to be causing the discomfort.”

“This procedure will enable Sean to get back to full fitness after an initial reloading period post the procedure.”

The Club will confirm the return in play timeline for Darcy in the coming days.

Wingman Nathan O’Driscoll has also required a surgical procedure to remove a blood clot from his right knee.

Following the West Coast Eagles match sim, the Club identified a blood clot superficial to the knee joint. After seeking specialist advice, it was agreed to surgically remove the clot to speed up O’Driscoll’s recovery.

“Nathan will be off-feet for a couple of days after the procedure, but it is expected that we will recover quickly from the procedure,” Brierty said.

“Once he ticks off his load progressions, he should be able to transition back into football fairly quickly.”

Both players will miss the start of the AFL season and the Club will continue to work through return to play timelines.
