Murray and I thought I saw Milera and Sloane went down too? Not that they are super pivotal players but losing Doedee and Murray without ready to go will no doubt hurt. Really rate Murray, had a great 2023.

And then I thought I'd heard Fog, Milera and Sloane had had a set back? Might be old news I'm a bit out of the loop on the SA clubs.
Milera a hamstring, but should be available for round 1.

Sloane another eye injury, but not part of our best side anymore.

Don't think Fogarty is injured - been in all the training sessions... unless something recent I haven't heard of?

We have Worrell, Butts & Keane to cover whilst Murray is out. Also, have Borlase, Himmelberg & Burgess as depth... so plenty of defensive talls if needed.

Well hopefully they have a good year. Crows have lots of good ball users and Curtin will add to that mix, think they are building nicely and expect them to be big players in future years.

Looking at the teams after trades, etc., this could be one of the rare years were there is little change to the top 8 .... can see St Kilda dropping out, but otherwsie only a Melbourne horror story could open things up

Oh, of course, the Blues will tumble out
The art to baiting is to make it subtle... This is a woeful attempt lad

Historically, Carlton doing a Carlton means were likely to win the Grand Final (only Collingwood can claim the same number of Grand Final wins).

Maybe Sydney will do a Sydney, and fade into obscurity for another 72 years.
IDK about that to be honest. 7 Grand Finals since 1996 meaning one every 4 years on average and missed Finals probably 3 or 4 times in the last 25. Can't see their star fading anytime soon actually. Stability and as Bruce would say " That Culture The Bloods "

JOM played most of the 2022 season at Hawks as a high half forward with stints in the midfield - pretty much the same role Shultz had at Freo. JOM is probs a better kick having a very high goal assist rate whereas Shultz scored more goals and laid more tackles. Both are very good in that role

I have a few points in response because I'm bored:
  • My post was mainly about your inability to spell Jaeger O'Meara which I found amusing.
  • The year is now 2024.
  • JOM was moved to a half-forward flank at Hawthorn because he was declining as a player and has continued to do so since.
  • Lachie Schultz has been your best/most consistent forward for the past few years for goals and provides elite forward pressure.
  • You can't replace one of the league's best small forwards with a midfielder who is past their prime and realistically expect the same level of production.

What a load of BS.

Walsh plays a whole season.
McKay/Curnow iron out their forward connection.
Hollands addition.
Williams fit.
Motlop development.
TDK a year older and with more confidence.
Fantasia stays fit.

There's a bunch of reasons that Carlton could improve in 2024.

Fantasia is a poor man’s version of Robbie Nahas.
Imagine thinking a knock off version of Nahas being the missing link to lift the cup?

Strange how you ignored every other point to talk about a player that’s been injured for best part of the last couple of years - and the key comment that if he stays fit he adds to their side. It’s really not that crazy a statement.

He’s kicked 20 goals or more in 5 seasons, averaging 1.4 goals a game which is above the AFL average for small forwards.

So I’ll say it again, if stays fit he adds to Carlton’s chances of improvement.

Getting back to ladder positions, Freo could land anywhere.

Obviously they have a good young midfield, and, Jackson has the ability to be the best big man in the game. If he turns it on, they could be top 6.

It’s just the way they play the game that I’m unsure about. I don’t know if they are a little more of the defensive mindset, when they have the players to take risks and play fast, daring footy.

Also doesn’t help when they can’t get a settled team. Schultz is a big loss to that team.
Their coach is reactionary - way too careful and not prepared to back them in.
I'd be surprised if they made the 8

Looks like yet another grim season ahead for Essendon judging by the majority opinion this thread

We were pretty competitive for the first 17 rounds last season, but were very poor after that. Since our terrible finish is fresh in peoples minds, it makes sense that we aren't rated at all.

I think our depth has improved dramatically, both from new recruits and players returning from injury. I expect us to improve significantly, but I am not sure if we have enough improvement in the midfield to really push up the ladder.

What do you put the terrible finish down to?

Must have been a very disheartening way to end the year after what I thought was a pretty good campaign for most of the year.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Essendon snuck into the 8.
