STK could be home to 3 of those picks, former 1st rounders in Stocker, Dow, Philp.
SOS’s M.O.

Answer to an often asked question this time of year.
Is it worth stickying this to top of page also?

Can only have 1 sticky per thread.

Easy enough to find in the Team List & Contracts stickied thread:-

With Dow and Fisher about to leave for chips due to not being in our best 22.

Luckily due to being a big Vic club we have been able to attract some really good players from other clubs to make up for the dud picks. SOS won't have quite the sane luxury at St Kilda so will need to draft alot better.

Yes, 2015 was amazing but the rest of those years were individually and collectively poor, considering the picks we had available. So many strikethroughs and we got literally nothing for any of them (except the throw away pick for SPS).

Aside from 2015, those outcomes are no better than the often pilloried Richmond drafting of the early 2000s, where they squandered top pick after top pick on duds. If those other years had been average or better than average, I think we'd potentially be looking at a dynasty.

Let's hope we are sitting back in a few years admiring the work of Austin. He's got a lot less to work with these days, and will need to make smart moves.

With the news of L’Ob, Philp and Honey, is it now 31 Senior and 3 Cat A rookies?

Prior to Plow announcing his retirement on Wednesday:-
36 Senior players
6 Category A Rookies

After Plow's retirement:-
35 Senior players
5 Category A Rookies (adjusted to include Ed's retirement)

As of yesterday's list changes - LOB (rookie), Honey & Philp:-
33 Senior players
4 Category A Rookies

I realise social media has long been a sewer, but those supporters potting Plow on the way out need a boot up the klacker, Setanta-style.

Off-hand, I wouldn't have been shocked if he got a game last week just to mind Cameron. Always had a decent record on him.

E Hollands for Honey to plug hf list profile gap.
Binns already covers LoB.
Lots of coverage for Plowman
Philp and Ed most glaring gap for mine.

Interesting to see how we go with our first pick in the draft. Best available or profile specific.

As mentioned no less than 1000 times we need a kpd. Whilst I am bullish that our game stands up with only one true kpd in Weitering and two mid sized defenders in mcgovern/marchbank/kemp, investing now to develop the next kpd makes a lot of sense with young and durdin as short term backups.

I agree the midfield is looking a bit shallow especially if we lose Dow as well. I reckon we target De Mattia or Charlie Edwards vis the draft with our first pick to bolster the midfield. Then Moir or Philactides with our second.

Not sure where Carroll fits in to all this either - personally I don’t think he has a point of difference to be a regular league footballer - hopefully West Coast come knocking with an offer for regular senior footy.

Elijah Hollands for the important half forward/midfielder role as a successor to Martin. Williams is like a new recruit to give us run off half back. The rest of the improvement comes from the likes of Harry, TDK, Motlop, Ollie Hollands etc.

I do my list my way, you do yours :p

Marc Pittonet (26)
Hudson O'Keefe (18)
Alex Mirkov (23)

Left off are the Irish boys, I have no idea how they'll try and develop them.

Looking at this I'd say that we need some developing defenders, Newman/Williams/Saad all getting close to over 30.

Another key forward in development wouldn't hurt.

Replacing Cripps and Doc needs to start being a thought :(

General forwards lack a standout. Would be nice to have a goal kicking threat under 190cm

I'd prioritize a general forward for mature targets, point of difference midfielder in the first round of the draft and defenders and a key position forward later.

Which is why we’ve spent draft capital getting in players like Cez and Saad etc. But that’s now the past, things have improved since.

North have 40 & 52, Swans 42 & 50. Negotiation probably ends up around those picks, though we might ask for more at the start. Could always bundle those picks with a future to improve our hand this year.

Garbage analysis. Weights late picks equivalent to early picks & then fails to include newman, pittonet, cotrell, owies,Marchbank, kennedy, Martin. You need to judge it as a list build. We finished 3rd on the back of SoS drafting.

North - Carlton F1 & Fisher
Blues - Pick 19 and Norths F2
It’s the sort of deal that would appeal to some list managers.

The kicker is the future 1st. Don’t think I’d do it as a Blue as the stakes are higher here…

Best case (using the less than satisfactory points system) we get the equivalent of a mid 2nd, worst case we drop off (and maybe finish around 8 ) Fish goes for say a mid third and we’ve used pick 10ish as part of the deal.

I guess it depends on wether we are looking to trade iF1 out anyway, but surely we have-other options.

Reckon Nth want to keep any pick under 20 they have in any year…

Future picks is my guess as to our requirements.

List build.

Pieces with some value as at 2015-18 leveraged to obtain players of value as the group matures 2022-27 ish.

Then it’s about succession planning and resource management

I just watched vfl grand finals. My comments on Hollands.
  • He is a step up from Dow or selecting Kennedy, Hewett in the same side. A walk up best 22 player in our side
  • Two way runs, tough footballer.
  • He appeared 75% inside and 25% outside but that might be finals football
  • Hollands disposal has more penetration than Hewett or Dow. He is a faster, more dynamic Kennedy.
  • My questions.
Is Hollands really an onballer and not a high half fwd?
Is Hollands disposal that good? Is he really the player that draws the lead by kicking low and hard 40m passes into the fwd line?
I didn't see silk like Jack Martin, Rankine or Rozee, does he have it?

Bottom line on Hollands he is a massive get for us, a 10 year onballer that is the dawn of a post-cripps world(provided he is fit). His floor is a quicker version of Matthew Kennedy, his ceiling is Adam Cerra level but a huge upgrade on the 23 games played by Dow and Ed Curnow.
