Our best forward line at the moment is roughly

Durdin McKay Owies
Martin Curnow Silvagni Cottrell

That’s a good forward line but I think we need to improve it and also look at our connection with the midfield. Another real X factor type is needed but also our ability to help out in the middle

If we add a Gresham or Hollands and if an O’Keefe/Lemmey steps up to push for a spot it’s even better

Gresham isn't a quick small forward. For the money essendon are willing to pay him I say we look elsewhere

How many of the games best players are actually lightning quick? I’d be recruiting Gresham because at his best he could kick us 35 goals at half forward and add to the midfield mix, something we don’t really have. If the money is right he is really a no brainer, unfortunately it doesn’t look like the money is right especially if Essendon are trying to pull a shifty with compo picks.

I am confident we can find that pace and X factor at the draft, and those players can come in and have an impact quickly because we now have the environment for them to do so. It’s easier when you’re winning games and senior players can take the heat.

We need a small forward who can also take a strong overhead mark.
I don't see that in Mots, Durds, Fog, Owies and Fish.
Even Bobby channeled Jezza yesterday.
Marking is one of the things we need to move to the top of list for prospective small/medium forwards. We've been all about pressure/tackling and not so much offering a reliable target in the air.

With the scent and emotion of premiership success lingering in the air, now is the time to approach players that fit our need and appeal to their basic drive, and sell the dream of joining a genuine contender and compete for potential imminent long term success (and the different rewards that come with that). We don’t need many pieces to complete the puzzle….

I think we are lacking a degoey/dusty/petracca/rayner/Darcy Forgaty type in our forward mix...these types can also play in the middle and often can be very impactful

No idea where find one but im hoping our club is looking.

Cant be any worse than Cuningham and Marchbank who appear destined for another contract.

So they should. Found some continuity with their bodies and played meaningful roles for us in the 2nd half of the season despite next to no pre seasons.

Remember Jamie Elliot missed almost two years of footy. As did a guy called Charlie Curnow.

Acknowledge Cunners & Marchy aren’t exactly untouchables but when fit and at their best they’re in our best 22.

Durdin& Owies don’t exactly send shivers through the oppo.

Love Kempy but we overlooked Cody Weightman & Kozzy Pickett in that draft when SOS decicded to slide back…

What they would add to our forward line complimenting our two big boys…

We're only 4-5 moves away from being a truly strong side, as our bottom 5 really killed us in finals, the Fogarty's and Cuningham's of the world who were instrumental in our streak really fell away in those last 3 games (no disrespect towards those guys, love them to bits but it's the truth).

I believe our big issue in the forward-line is a small forward with true game-breaking potential. Motts has shown signs but I'm unconvinced. At present I can't see any of our smalls kicking 4 in a final and tearing a game apart, which all of the top teams have (Greene, Cameron, Pickett, Hill etc.)

I like our smalls that play hard and apply massive pressure, but I believe we have too many that are "defensive forwards" that don't impact the scoreboard enough, either through kicking goals or setting up others, i.e Durds, Mowies, Fogarty, Cuningham (not saying these guys don't do any of that, they just don't do it as much as I would like).

I believe one of the moves we NEED to make this off-season is bringing in a dynamic small that can do all of the above. Whether it's trading for a Ryan etc., or trading up for the Wizard, I don't mind. The beauty of our situation is that because we're only a few pieces away, we can "overpay" for these guys (i.e giving overs to trade for Ryan since he'll no doubt start a bidding war if he becomes available) and it won't impact us that much.

I think our other main issue (leg speed across half back) can mostly be solved internally through Williams coming back, playing more Boyd when he's healthy, and setting up Saad for more dash off half back. I think finding a dynamic, game-breaking forward internally is significantly less likely unless one of Motts or Durds take massive strides this off-season.

I don't know who else in the Ryan mould would become available, any ideas? FWIW I don't think Gresh is that type of player.

if only we'd taken ben lennon instead of our captain! if only we'd passed on charlie cause of his obvious character issues, if only we'd appointed rtb over the bloke who got us within 3 goals of a grand final! oh, how it might have been so much different - woe, woe is me!!

I’d like to see Zac Williams in this role 70/30 split forward and midfield

Henry chose St Kilda not Hawthorn
Also played his best football on the wing not as a forward, has kick 13 career goals and seems to struggle to kick 30+ metres.

Not sure where the obsession with him as a small forward is, other than being first nations.

Williams. Just play him in that role across half forward next year.

We have Motlop & Durdin who I rate. Owies IMO got found out in finals for lack of tricks. Cuningham the same. Fogarty is a worker and role player more than a damaging small forward.

We need dangerous options under McKay & Curnow

I’d be looking everywhere. Gresham is talented and worth a go. Do we look at Liam Ryan who is only 26. Fantasia we could land for free and is 28. Issue is his body.
Toby McLean is available but not much different than Owies
Brockman would be good but apparently determined to go back to WA
Kai Lohman I would chase
Anyone else?

Other than Luke Breust who would who would be ideal, any other wiley old foxes out there who would be a good forward/mid?

West Coast and Geelong is where I would be looking. I don’t see the appeal of Ryan, he has progressively got worse every year he’s played AFL.
