If you're playing as key forward this season for South Adelaide then you need to make the most of your chances, and that's what Noah Howes does. Big lad with a mature body for an 18 year old, Howes moves well and is a strong contested mark (ranked second in the SANFL). His kicking is solid with a fluid action and he even has a few tricks in his bag.

Agree. Outside our defensive issues (as in whole of ground / transition) our biggest issues are a leaky forward line - that also doesn't have contested marking power and a midfield that struggles to not turn it over.
I think there's a few of us on the same page, and we're probably there with the coaching staff from what I heard Viney say.

Tackles I50 - worst in the league (avg 6.6), against the best which is more than double (carlton, 14.9)

Marks I50 - second worst (9.3), best is 14.6 (Port and Giants)

Admittedly our I50 average is also the worst (45.1 vs best of 57.9, Brisbane) but that will partly be related to our inability to hold it in and get repeat entries.

So in short, for the MSD: a second marking target, and a small forward who can tackle, and preferably both have to be ready to go, not project players

I can't go past him. That's our guy. Sphynx and roos_fanatic08 called it.

Only 18 still, 196cm playing SANFL seniors. Mobile, contested marks, skilful, quick gives.

Any chance we could do the following?

Pick 1 - Szekely
Pick 2 - Howes
Pick 3 - Teakle

I reckon we’d need to go Howes at 1 and hope that Szekely slips to our second. I really can’t split either of them. Both fill a desperate need for us.

If we don't take him and he goes on to be a success somewhere else, the media will be brutal. Even more so if we take another 184cm mid/flanker.

Howes will go in the first 3-4 picks imo.

Taking him at #1 will be the only opportunity.

He will probably go to Richmond at #2 if we pass imo.
We need to start looking at tall forwards so if the club is serious about it then it has to be Howes..Play him in the VFL for a few weeks and then if all goes well put him in the side at CHF to help Larkey..

That broken line on the field about 25 metres from goal in the SANFL is a brilliant idea. Let's umpires and players know how far they need to kick out of the goal square and also when to take a bounce. Too often players get to run 30 metres from fullback without taking a bounce.

Ah, that's the WA team from 2022.

We need to start looking at tall forwards so if the club is serious about it then it has to be Howes..Play him in the VFL for a few weeks and then if all goes well put him in the side at CHF to help Larkey..

I don't think Howes will be an immediate remedy to our issues. He still has plenty of development to go before he'll be ready for AFL footy. He is only 18 and is coming off two injury interrupted years.

I'm keen as to take him with pick 1, but I don't want posters to have unrealistic expectations of what he'll bring to the table.

Thats why l would like to see him play a few games in the VFL first...

Seems like we will have to be patient with whoever we draft, in any draft. Trading/FA is probably the only way to bring in players with the combined maturity and quality to make a quick impact.

I've heard he's not in the conversation for us, of course things can shift in the final games.
