I’ve come around to the Geordie Payne pick. A productive small forward that’s quick, applies defensive pressure and kicks goals. Who got a BOG against an Eastern team boasting two likely top 10 ND players. Where do I sign

I doubt any WAFL player is AFL standard.
As we need talls we would be looking at Scaife
or maybe Teakle or even Joshua Edwards as a project. Or possible backup for X. Get some VFL and maybe a few AFL games into them.

Hang on, isn't the point of mid season draft is to get players in who can play straight away?

So there's about half a dozen decent players out of 62 picks. Pretty average strike rate.

Hang on, isn't the point of mid season draft is to get players in who can play straight away?
Yeah and while people are saying Kal Dawson was an example of it working for us, which sure it was, he 100% was. But it took him like a year until he got some continuity of games even with bare backline.

So I’m not sure what the go is.

Edwards was touted as a top ten draft pick if he went to the NAB draft instead. Which makes me just a little anxious on the Goad development.

Not necessarily. You take the player that best fits your needs.

What is the point for us of taking a ready-to-go fringe player over a CHF prospect that needs some more development time?

Is this kid Payne comparable to Wardlaw/Comben in intensity, or is he closer to Stevo?

If it's the former, and he has competent skills, then bring him in.

Happy to crack into Rawling but Goad is already a better player than Edwards at VFL level (low bar). Doubt he plays until late 2025 at best.

Given our list profile being so young, is there any talent in the 22-25yo bracket worth looking at for our 2nd pick?
No idea if he’s nominated but Hugh Dixon seems to be going ok for the Southport Sharks and is a mature KPF.

if we go Payne pick 1 then have to go KPF with our second pick so yeah Dixon would be one to look at

I’d be happy if we walked away from the MSD and said we just decided to take the two best defensive mids outside the AFL system.
In the hope that we lay a tackle through the middle of the ground or see a player run both ways by the end of the year.
I’d be happy if we walked away from it completely and didn’t let Brady make another **** up.

l would have thought that like those on the LTI list TT is in the same circumstances where he is unavailable to play..
Does it really matter? It is hard to get too excited over pick 1 in the MSD. The idea that anyone of AFL calibre would be available at a third-pick is close to fantasy.

I agree. No use just drafting players just because we have the spots unless there is someone we really want. Otherwise we could just end up with players who want 18 month contracts and become list cloggers next year
