There's no list spot at the Crows, I expect if they decide to put Strachan on the LTI he'll sign with the Crows and if not he'll go to Norwood. He doesn't want to play for our SANFL team only presumably.

I hope we don't get him, sounds like an absolute spud who got a gig because he is tall, really hope he goes to Norwood where his lack of football ability won't stand out

I think his kicking technique is a lot better, but mostly because he just limits himself to those little stab passes he does.
I noticed for the first time when we played in cairns that he’s actually terribly knock kneed. How the hell he can run all game is beyond me and no surprise that kicking is problematic.

Also lead the ruck for Essendon in the last 4 games.
Was Draper getting a rest at the end of season or them preparing Bryan?
Draper is a poor ruck statistically with undoubted knob factor who infuriates Dons supporters and
sincerely want our club to take a different direction.
1.5 a year to TDK for 2026 would be my first call.
You don't pay Ruckman, any team is very silly if they do, what you need is to find an adequate Ruckman, ROB would actually be fine if he wasn't on that big paycheck (it's his last year)

You pay over 1+mil to get a NWM or Phillipou or another gun mid, never ever a ruckman, we learnt our lesson with ROB, Pies/Dees learnt there less with Grundy, Freo are learning it with Darcy, English would be a watch because he goes down often, you just have to find an adequate ruck on a cheap contract - a Meek type

Liam Reddy is the one I'd be targeting, or hope someone else is ready to step up like Barnett

Fair call but “Ruckmen” is only a term as far as I am concerned. To me he is just a highly skilled footballer with an incredible leap who you could play almost anywhere. As a tapping tall follower in the Rohan Marshall mould who can also go forward to expose other ruckmen.
Then you don’t need to carry a plodder ruck on your list taking up a spot imo.

At 1.5 a year, I'd rather Draper.

Look, TDK is tracking to be a top 5 ruck in the league (at min), but that's probably an amount which will cripple us for anything other than an inside midfielder (and even the best rucks don't give you inside midfield production). After all, Rankine and Thilthorpe are on track to be on some serious coin in the future (if not already).

Look, 1.5 p/a will be eff all the way the cap is going over 5-6 years

For our timed crack at a flag we will need a ruck who is better than useless around the ground .
TDK is on the cusp of dominating the centre and around ground.

I noticed that this year, too. I’m surprised it hasn’t been mentioned more. He looks so ungainly.
I did mention it after the training session in Cairns. Mind you i also said at the time he probably wouldn’t play because he could barely move! (He played. 🫣)

No, it won't be **** all. The cap doesn't increase by that much per CBA. There is only two position where you can (barely) justify spending the 1.5 m/pa price and that's inside midfield and key forward, due to how much a top 5 player in the league brings in either slot. No other position produces enough to be worth it.

History has shown the opposite. A great ruck isn't worth the money they cost, and there is only a small window where what they do around the ground is valuable (before they hit FA/1st big contract). This also checks out if you look at it statistically. The likely best case scenario with TDK is you're looking something akin a 2023-2024 Rowan Marshall like ceiling (20.1 disp/5.7 clearances/5.5 marks/0.7 goals/26.4 HO, which is ~ the glass ceiling for rucks). That's the best ruck in the league currently and it's just an above average winger with a few more clearances. Most of the top tier rucks sit in the 16-18 disposal range with slightly less offensive production.

Heck, even look at the rucks on premiership sides. Outside of Gawn, it's guys like McInerney/Cameron*/Stanely/Nankervis/Lycett in recent times. They're all 12-14 disposal guys who competed, will follow instructions, but don't offer a whole lot anywhere in their premiership years.

* put up a borderline elite ruck year in 2024.

1.5 less Rob’s salary which is ?

1.5 less Rob’s salary which is ?

I have no idea. Even if you take the board's collective bed-wetting scenario of $800k, you're effectively investing another above-average player worth of salary into a position where there is little-to-no benefit in having a good player once you're stumping up the cash.

Nope, absolutely no ruckman is worth that coin and certainly not TDK.

Our big failing is not drafting a young development ruck since we drafted a 19 year old Calder Cannon ROB a decade ago.

Whilst most will take a minimum of 3 - 4 years to fully develop (not all) generally after 2 years or so you can tell if they're the one to persevere with or not, if not rinse and repeat and draft another. It is the only way we will ever get the "Ünicorn" like a Dean Cox, Aaron Sandilands or Max Gawn but failing that every chance at some point we can develop a 10 year AFL level ruckman.

Pity we didn't grab Rowan Marshall as I suggested 3 years in a row as an 18 year old Ruck/forward at the Ballarat Rebels. or as a 19 year old Ruck/defender at the Ballarat Rebels or then as a mature aged 20 year old Ruck/Forward at the now defunct VFL team the North Ballarat Roosters. Also suggested Lloyd Meek as an 18 year old ruck at the Ballarat Rebels late/rookie and again as a 19 year old ruck at the Ballarat Rebels.

Just like I suggested 18 year old GWV Rebels ruck Flynn Penry as a late/rookie opportunity this year or even another GWV Rebel Forward/Ruck Floyd Burmeister also late/rookie.

The good news is the very astute GWV Rebels coach David Loader has invited both lads back for 2025 as 19 year olds because he thinks they have AFL potential and need to be put before the AFL recruiters again like former Rebels Rowan Marshall and Lloyd Meek.

This is what you base your argument on and I 100% disagree.

So say an LDU @ 1.5 which Mid are you moving on ?
Crouch @ what $400 at his shit contract ? Still need 1.1
Laird is on big bucks but good luck moving him.
Or do you intend pulling the full 1.5 out of a nether region somewhere?

Rob gone and 700k. =TDK a potential match winner to combine with TT as an awesome R/F combo.

My opinion as yours is yours.

Please.

You obviously haven't been watching the development of TDK ....talk of a million $ contract isn't hyperbole talk

Yes he is now a match winner, Floating Doughnut is correct in his POV

As said Bicks to me Ruck is only a word, it’s about having someone like TDK around the ball or TT at all
times in place of a plodder ruck. Which is my preference for the game going forward.
A player kicking 25 goals, holding down first ruck and dominating around ground when on ball.
That is what I expect from Marshall this year, TDK putting out better numbers at the same age.

He isn't, and neither are you.

It doesn't seem fanciful, seeing TDK is out of contract and putting up strong numbers. That said, whether Carlton - or another club - is walking into some Brodie Grundy-like instant buyer remorse remains to be seen.

After all these thoughts about "rucks being another midfielder" has been chased since the Cox and Sandliands days, and there isn't a whole lot to show for it.

Hadn’t seen the article it but pretty well sums up my opinion and stats indicating where the game is headed .
Only time will tell but all pie in the sky, we won’t be able to attract him here anyway.

Don’t backtrack now and come up with a useless cliche like that.
And you are still looking back not forward, try and anticipate when the game is going.

You still haven’t answered the question how you are financing our Uber mid ?
