Why don’t we just forget about Daniel and play Powell at half back? Ball magnet, good decision maker and user. Too slow for the midfield.

Half backs should be your best kicks of the footy. With defensive and offensive capabilities. Should also have some dash while we are at it. Powell is not a half back, Kerch can play it but lacks some defensive qualities and honestly would be too good elsewhere. Tucker is a better half back than Powell is

Don't recall. It was one of the last two years. Maybe we saw it as pick 4 because we knew Walter would go before our pick 3. Anyway, the idea was introduced and a whole lot of people got their trousers in a twist about the idea of it. Genuine anger and angst at a scenario that was very obviously entirely made-up.

We need to relax on here. It's not talented youngsters that we're short on

I definitely think it’s talented KPF’s we are short on. IMO we should be doing everything in our power to get 2 KPF’s in the door.
Giving up 25 for the complete antithesis of that seems ludicrous to me.

If we don’t have at least 2 picks in the top 25 then I’ll class this period as a dismal failure.

Realistically we need 4 picks inside 40, and we should be finding ways to do that without sacrificing our F1.

I’m dreading tomorrow.

I think GWS more likely. After the bolton trade, Freo won't trade 11 and 30 as it would leave them with only 67 in this draft. GWS have 7 picks, so could see them doing F1 for 15/16.

And surely we can get special consideration to trade out a F2 as well. We've had plenty of first round picks in recent years.

Freo said they were open to moving 11 forward. I suspect to have the picks for Warner next year.
GWS an option but said they "want to make sure they get the players they want" before trading out.
I'd probably prefer to hold onto the F1 myself, but just going off what Brady said at the start of trade period about splitting 2 or moving the F1 forward for a player or picks (maybe we are that keen on Trainor or somebody in the teens).
My preference would be to split 2 if we want to generate another pick in the teens for the record.

I definitely think it’s talented KPF’s we are short on. IMO we should be doing everything in our power to get 2 KPF’s in the door.
Giving up 25 for the complete antithesis of that seems ludicrous to me.

Yeah well, we're also short on natural rebounding half-back flankers, somehow. Agree that the forward line needs to be the main target area, but yknow, by the time a drafted key forward is developed enough, Larkey will be about 29. I guess the saving grace is that with his game style, he could go till 35 easily.

The shortest pathway to a solid two key pillars will be Comben forward and all fingers, limbs and muscles crossed that he stays healthy, that Maley comes on, and that Goad shows something as a forward

Agree that the forward line needs to be the main target area, but yknow, by the time a drafted key forward is developed enough, Larkey will be about 29. I guess the saving grace is that with his game style, he could go till 35 easily.

The shortest pathway to a solid two key pillars will be Comben forward and all fingers, limbs and muscles crossed that he stays healthy, that Maley comes on, and that Goad shows something as a forward

I’m of the opinion we’ve got 2 ready to go in Hardeman and Goater, all things going to plan with injuries etc. Daniel is more of a distributer than a back flanker. Can’t defend.

If we're not targeting mids in the draft, I wouldn't be surprised if we're planning on picking up another 2nd rounder by sliding from 2.

Like 2 > 6 + 23 / 24 + 51 from Richmond.

It would still get us Tauru, for example, but it means we could get a good KPF and Daniel, plus maybe something else. (51 becomes 30-something on the night.)

Things would've been so much different if we got what we paid for with CCJ and Sleevo. About 80 goals a year different.

We'll need a few developing in the VFL regardless of Larkey's age. Darling/Larkey/Comben/Teakle for the now.
Age hasn't stopped Caddy or Logan Morris being able to step in quicker than expected if they are good enough.

There haven't been many signs of teams willing to give up multiple first rounders to move up yet, such is the evenness of the draft. So I have this lingering thing in the back of my mind, where I refuse to believe we aren't going to draft a KPF, but with 25 looking like it could be destined to WB, I'm trying to figure out how it happens without us sliding down from 2.

Maybe WB will relent on giving back 35 with Daniel, but I'm not confident.

Hard not to argue that using pick 25 on Caleb Daniel qualifies as a case of "massive overdrive ATM" for our recruiting list management team : stern look :

If West Coast get 2 x future first rounders, or even a Future 1st and Future 2nd, then Fremantle will need to act to keep up in terms of the race for Warner.

This is my sticking point too, I’m not against getting Daniel but not for pick 25 there will be a few KPFs at that pick. Even if we split pick 2 we’d be mad not to take a KPF at 25.

This is my sticking point too, I’m not against getting Daniel but not for pick 25 there will be a few KPFs at that pick. Even if we split pick 2 we’d be mad not to take a KPF at 25.

I think Daniel would be a good acquisition but I find it hard to believe we're prepared to put 25 on the table if we haven't come up with a strategy to find a replacement pick that gets us a good key forward.

Maybe I was being slightly pessimistic in my previous post, maybe the deal would be something like 2 for 6 and 18.
