Unfortunate for Harry, but it's only year one. On Eyre, surely we saw plenty of him in the VFL last year and had a good glimpse of him in pre-season. Teakle as ruck back up is an interesting one, could it stymie the development of Steene and Begg -both seemed to really come on late last season?

Collingwood’s No.25 draft pick Harry DeMattia will miss up to two months of his debut season after damaging a finger tendon, just as he was pushing for senior selection.

The Herald Sun understands DeMattia could miss up to 12 weeks with the injury, a blow for the former cricketer who chose footballlate in his draft year.

Do we seem to get a lot of finger tendon injuries or am I imagining it.

Just one person, could be nothing. He injured himself days ago, you would think scans would be done straight away and we would have known by now?
Well you'd think so, but we only just had confirmation from the club about Harry.

Like I said, I'm really, really hoping it's not true.

The 12 weeks I'm crying over is for Harry.
oh lol oops

Yeah, although same thing I'd argue

Harry was unlikely to get a game this season, particularly early so as much as it sucks for him personally, it doesn't necessarily hurt the side at least.

Disagree that Begg seemed to come to it last week. His future is not as a ruckman at AFL level. Doesn't have the right body for it, will get monstered in the VFL. It's hard to tell whether he or Richards is sitting as first chop.

His Richmond game last year was an anomaly but from the way Richmond made selections and just gave up half-way through, it was pretty clear they had the tables booked for Mad Monday.

Begg's an interesting player, great leap and even better hands on the in-side: only 1cm shorter than Mark Blicavs and around the same weight. Blicavs goes OK as a 2nd ruck.

What’s this all about? Still recovering from concussion?
Seems he hasnt felt he has been right mentally to play in a game, and hasnt played any form of match sim or game since the GF

Collingwood advises Nathan Murphy will remain on a modified training program and will not take part in the upcoming practice matches.

EGM Football Graham Wright said:

“Nathan’s welfare, like the welfare of all our athletes and people, remains paramount. The last game Nathan played was the 2023 Grand Final and Nathan, together with everyone at the Club, have since worked closely with him on his individual training program.

“Nathan will continue his individual program over the pre-season period and will return to match simulation when he is ready to do so.”

Nathan Murphy said:

“The Club has been terrific in the way they have managed me but the reality is knowing the way I play the game, I have been finding it difficult to get myself in the right frame of mind to participate in match simulation.

“I feel great and have the right support around me but the facts are I haven’t played a match since the Grand Final so right now, I am enjoying coming into the Club, learning and participating in all the meetings, and taking part in training, all of the conditioning and gym work.

“It is important for me and everyone around me to ensure I am in the right frame of mind to be able to return to match simulation and AFL matches which I have every intention of doing.

“The Club continues to support me through this and I hope people can understand and respect that.”

Jennifer Aniston Yes GIF

So right now we have:

  • McStay out until the tail end of the season
  • Mattia out until almost halfway through the season (although he was unlikely to get senior games)
  • Murphy most likely missing the first couple of games (or more, who knows)
  • Schultz rumoured (at best) to be out for a while

Not an ideal start to the season lol

Yes, everyone knows that running is far better for your development than games of football.

Robert De Castella could have been the greatest player ever.

Deeks’ daughter plays upper-age juniors for Ainslie FC in Canberra and is apparently very good.
