I just watched the press conference and McRae spoke about Reef kicking a few goals and taking marks. I'm confused.
Perhaps it's no big deal and today was a casual training session. It happens. We'll know tonight.

Relieved to see Bobby's name there. Surprised no Reef. Looks pretty much the team there with one extra. AJ out? Bytel sub?

Sidey was playing on the wing, so that to me suggests Bytel out or sub
Would they play all of Kreug, johnson and WHE and drop dean? Kreug did the 2nd ruck forward role. Frampton in defence along with Moore. Howe.

Maybe Dean as sub in case they want/need to move Howe forward? Not your typical sub type I know, but these are desperate/unusual circumstances. We really don't have a clue how Freddy is going to go/last 😬 maybe AJ as sub.

No reef 🙁. Krueger surely playing then.
I’m actually feeling ill that AJ was there and not Reef. Surely he blew his last shot last week?

I remember Sidey giving one of the dees wingers (Langdon?) an almighty bath in the finals last year.
And he has been a liability in defence

It is wing or VFL for mine

Let’s just see how he goes with another legitimate key forward (Kreuger, not Frampton) and WHE playing beside him. If he doesn’t perform then I might suffice to say he blew his last shot. I’m not a big fan of him so far, but I feel we will only see his true self when he is a 3rd tall option, not 1st/2nd

Frampton trained in defence
Krueger took the 2nd ruck forward role

Sounds like Ash and WHE will be the key forwards, Kreuger second ruck and Frampton back to defence which leaves Dean as the hold over emergency.

I’d have preferred Reef in and WHE back to his high half forward/wing rotation role but can understand why they might not want to rush Reef back in.

Head scratcher atm.
Ash is probably viewed as the better of the two leading up the field whilst Shultz and WHE viewed as more dangerous targets deep. Kreuger whilst he’s down there will probably just engage with May physically and the let the others get a run and jump at the ball.

Don’t act like we haven’t seen that before. He played alongside Checkers in a full strength forward line early in the year and was still hot garbage.
Having quality talls around him won’t make him increase his work rate and second efforts, people need to stop making excuses for him.

From FB another traIning report from Anabelle who has not put them up for a while.

Training notes from today:
For most of training there was a bank of benign clouds with some blue peeping through and some transitory showers of filmy rain. Many eager fans had arrived early and lined the pavilion side decked out in the match day supporter gear. The kids who were seeking autographs and called out to their heroes as the entered the arena. Cox walked across to the outer side of the ground half an hour before training. He moved rather gingerly and is unable to put any significant pressure on his injured limb. Lipinski was the first to show. For the record here is the roll call of who was wearing white and black as they entered the oval. Am hoping for a win as while I was travelling, we didn't lose a match but that changed with the WB loss following my return. Hope I'm not a jinx!

Notable absentees: Parker, Reef Cox. Given that Reef seemed close to a recall, one might assume that he is ill or has a niggle.
Just prior to training Howe was deep in conversation with Roughy the defence coach for a long period, likewise Moore with Brendan McCartney.
After the desultory kicking and handball regimens which characterise free training as the precursor to the formal proceedings, the whole cohort cleaved into two distinct groups – one focussed on contested pairs, with one set wearing yellow vests, while the other completed their warm-up routine with aggressive forward kicks, high knee lifts and navigation of the mini hurdles. The groups then swapped to gain exposure to both activities.
Thereafter followed some drills concerned with applying pressure and some casual ball movement activities. There was a mini match simulation which horrified some onlookers with Frampton reprising his forward role as he played on the captain.
Fortunately the final match simulation which occurred from wing to wing using more elongated configuration saw him return to defence. All of Billy, Moore, Dean, Howe and Maynard played defensive roles which adds some intrigue to the eventual mix for Monday. Players such as Allan and Tew did not figure in this match play, though Bytel did signifying that he may possibly be the sub. Surely, we don’t want him in the side proper! Interestingly while Ash played forward, so too did Kreuger and he was opposed to Cameron as he had a run in the ruck, suggesting he may earn a promotion to play as a tall forward and ruckmen. Once again Darcy C’s vice like grip on the ball in marking duels was evident. Was instructive to see Noble break a vigorous IQ tackle at one point, perhaps indicating that he has built up his strength this season. Bobby Hill moved sans discomfort following that late session ankles scare the other day.
WHE played deep forward on Moore which is also a pointer to his role in the side. The players looked reasonably sharp with Kreuger jumping out of his skin in his endeavour to impress the coaches.
At one point Bolton walked around the outer side of the ground talking about player loads with one of the female coaches/trainers.
The rehab group worked hard.
Ned Long was part of this and he was doing a lot of agility work.
Pendles and JDG matched each other stride for stride as they completed many run throughs, while Checkers also ran hard to maintain his fitness level. Pendles, like his captain sported a big freeze beanie as he went through his paces.
Jamie ran solitary acres of the turf but looked comfortable and fluent in his movements.

Unbelievable. Quite concerning actually.
No it’s not. He’s out of concussion protocols and trained fully earlier in the week, you guys need to stop with the hand wringing. If he’s not playing this week it’s not because of concussion.

Having quality talls around him might just mean that Ash is ignored by teammates in favour of one of those quality players.

Training - Round 13, Saturday June 8th.

Decent crowd this morning, no surprise given it is saturday, but terrible for attempting to get anything signed. Thankfully I spend most of my time on the other side of the ground, away from the crowd.

This morning's squad was basically last week's team minus Parker.
Allan and TJ trained for a short amount of time, then went inside. Emergencies?

But no Reef. Eyre. Parker. DeMattia. Carmichael. McStay (on leave), The injured (Steene, Begg, Richards), Ryan.

Blacks v Whites unlikely mean anything given the limited squad. But think we can say those who trained today is the playing squad plus emgs

Squad that completed the whole session:

Lippa
IQ
Maynard
JDaicos
Schultz
Noble
DC
Kreuger
Frampton
Macrae
Sidey
Hill
Crisp
Bytel
Moore
Beau
WHE
Sullivan
NDaicos
Harrison
Markov
Howe
Johnson
Dean

Rehab:

Jordy
Mihocek
Jamie
Long
Pendles

No sign of Mitchell.

  • Markov, Frampton in defence
  • Sidey on the wing
  • WHE forward.
  • Kreuger playing the forward ruck role (which Frampton did last week)

A couple things they focused on this morning was, pressure, fast ball movement. Moving the ball going into 50 was a point they worked through.

Then they went into some half group match play simulations given the limited number of players available.

Around 10:30 they finished up, and did their own thing. The midfield group stayed out in the middle for a while having some sort of debrief with Skipworth I think it was.

Looked like Beau might get more midfield minutes, as was involved a bit of the centre bounce and midfield group stuff, so probably something we'll see v melb. Not a bad idea.

The midfield group included
Lippa, Josh, Nick, Fin, Sullivan, Beau, Crisp along with DC
