I’ve been a fan of eyre after watching him closely (albeit on tv) during our vfl games. was disappointed when he got injured. I’m glad he’s showing good signs in the pre season, I would have taken him based off vfl form alone.

3 spots equals Eyre + ?

Do they go two mids for further depth and development

or a mid and a ruck in Teakle ?

Interesting to see which way they call it

After his delisting from essendon, it was fairly talked about that he was a tad stiff.
"Despite not breaking through for a debut across two seasons at the Hangar, Eyre was considered unlucky to not land a third year with the Bombers. But with Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti coming out of retirement, Dyson Heppell remaining at the club and the Davey twins committing via the draft, Essendon ran out of list spots."

He quickly joined out vfl side, and nobody knew that was happening until he turned up on the community camp last feb down in the NT in a pies polo.

He may have played only 9 games this season, but he was clearly the best key defender who had, and I imagine he would have played if he wasnt recovering from his hamstring (which was a tendon and had to get surgery for it back in January) and wasn't that he was behind Silvani and Long.

They'll have to open up a list spot from Dan's injury. You'd think they would. If he suddenly has some miracle recovery late in the season, then could just not use the MSD, or even.. Can't we be one over on the list if we take a MSD and dont put dan on the inactive list?
Or by that point there could be someone on the lsit that doesnt play the rest of the season for whatever injury.

But in any case, I think we go with 1 mid, Eyre, then one of Teakle/Sofonidis (if we use 3 spots)

I saw Eyre a few times in the VFL and he looked okay but I think he is definitely ramping it up in this pre season,he looked good in those drills Jen has been showing.

Actually, not sure about that. Before we signed Oscar, St kilda tried to poach him, so we signed him a week or so before the deadline. I'll see if I can find out where I read that.

Especially during covid years. Tough time to develop especially as a big kid.
He may be one that thrives better in a professional environment, but reckon he showed a lot of promise in his vfl games this year. Club clearly thought so too.

It was St Kilda that made the first move in this strange series of events. Markov had been joined at Collingwood by fellow train-on player Oscar Steene, a 201cm ruck that the club was considering adding to support Darcy Cameron and Mason Cox.

Steene had impressed during his month at Collingwood, so much so that word of his talent was circulating. It led to St Kilda, also looking for ruck depth at the time, offering the youngster a contract and forcing the Pies into action.

By Friday, February 3, Markov's time at Collingwood was done. He was told the next weekend that the club's vacant list spot would be filled by Steene, leaving him once again without a footballing home.

I think the point is we don't have to go through a draft process - we can just sign them.
It doesn't mean a player won't go somewhere else if they get a better offer.

I said this earlier in the thread, but I’ll say it again. The dogs are extremely unlikely to pick up another mid if they go down the SSP path. As it stands they were already shunting Smith out of position just to fit him in the team, much like we did with Adams this year.
Most likely scenario is that they save the spot for the MSD imo.

There have been plenty of absolutely awful premiership players who have been in the right place at the right time. Frampton being a premiership player really speaks little about his quality and more about our lack of options for the role that needed to be filled.
