At the end of the day mate they will all have to prove themselves when the real stuff starts.
The reason I am quietly confident some of our youngsters can have break out year!s is not about the talk, but the grounding they have had.
They haven't been rushed in the seniors, they have done there aprentarslhip in the reserves..
They have has great educators/coaches and are in a elite system!
Don't be surprised if a few of them really surprise us with there up-side and improvement this year
I agree.
There seems to be real purpose with the youngers this pre-season. If we are to go forward these kids to step up and improve is best way.
Lets look at reef: This is the fittest he ever has been, which hurt him last season; hence why he was played as sub for most of his games. They wanted to play him, but he just didnt have the fitness to play out full games.
He has been hot on the track, and now there is an opening -- He has some practice games to prove he can step up.

With fin: He is fitter, stonger, yet has slimmed down as he is able to cover a lot more ground. He's been very noticeable on the track, and now able to play multiple positions. He looks good on the wing and inside. And now even playing off hb.

Fly speaks highly of Harry DeMattia. Him both and Allan I can see debuting this year.

The upcoming practice games we'll see what they are made of, and who can step up this year.

Does "Track watchers have been avowed with his progress" make sense?

Avowed makes sense. It's just saying track watchers have 'openly acknowledged & publicly declared' his progress.

It's "Track watchers have been avowed ..."

I suppose Jen will be acknowledged for her observations and rating of him, if he plays well in the regular season - so it might end up working, but it's not what the journo meant.

Unless there is a different way of using it that I don't know, but suspect that the writer meant "wowed" but it wasn't in the spellchecker of the writer's app.

AI would have done a better job.

...track watchers have been 'public in their declaration/ acknowledgement' of his progress... 💁 Does that work?

Where's Annabel when you need her, lol.

Anyway, I think we can all agree a lot of people have noticed his progress.

For me avowed is okay but they have just left out the adjective to tell us what they want to assert or be avowed by re his progress. "Trackwatchers have been avowed by his rapid progress" as an example. Still its clumsy. As many English teachers have said, simplify it. Sorry to say but Annabel could learn that lesson.

"trackworkers have been impressed by his progress" is simple and succinct.

Don't fluff for the sake of fluffing

Just on the practice games. Understand we have Richmond, but do you think we will also arrange an additional ‘match simulation?’

Perhaps Carlton?

Carlton? I'd prefer to practice against a team that will stretch us.:p

"been" and "by" makes it passive voice and mean the progress did the acknowledging of the track watchers.

For the young guys my (full) game predictions for them:

Reef: 8-12 games
HH: 5-10 games
Fin: 4-8 games
Dean: 4-8 games
Ryan: 2-6 games
Allan: 1-5 games (Early to mid season debut)
Carmichael 0-5 games
Demattia: 0-5 games (late season debut potentially)
Steene: 0-5 games (mid to late debut potentially)
Richards: 0-3 games
Begg: 0-3 games
Jiath: 0 (year of development)

These are starting 22 predictions not sub
I think we will be keen to get a look at Dean this season, which may also help let us manage Murphy a bit
Reef is the obvious one to play most games due to age and also potential to play as a smaller key forward

That wouldn't be great for mine. A whole range of 1-4 year players getting a game but none establishing a place. My hope would be

Allen 12-20 games
Reef 10-15 games
Harry 7-10 games
Ryan 5- 10 games
Dean 4-8 games
HH 1- 5 games
Finn 1-5
Carmy 0 games
Richards 0 games
Begg 0 games
Jaith 2 games

End of season
Reef and Allen set in best 22
Harry D looking like a very good player
Ryan and Dean and Tew showing enough hope
HH hangs on as he has another year on contract
Finn, Carmy, Begg, and Richards all delist

Change the names around as you wish, I have put who I think most likely. We need some to kick on more than your numbers suggest and some will fall by the wayside

If he is 1-5 games in 24 yeah. As I said I used names I think most likely end up in those spots. They are interchangable though. Biggest point is we dont need a lot of players outside the best 22 playing a few games we need a few of them playing a lot of games.

I think you’re probably overestimating Allan here. I think he’s got high upside, and will make it, but he came in to the system very raw so might need a bit extra time to become best 22. I’m hoping he can make the step up by the end of 2025, any earlier will be a bonus.

You’re also way too down on Fin. All reports have him as one of the standouts this preseason. He’s far more likely to be playing a lot of games than Allan, and he’s light years ahead of Harry and Ryan at this point.

Surely Fin is most likely to take Adams’ spot.

Does "Track watchers have been avowed with his progress" make sense?
Firstly - not much on this site make sense.

Secondly - if it's from the Cwood website it probably contains a grammatical error. By saying "have been" do they they mean they have completed their state of avowedness?

Thirdly - it probably makes sense but requires cerebral work to achieve a state of comprehension moving forward so as not to remain static at the end of the day.

Fourthly - as others have said replace "avowed" with "impressed".

Finally - sorry for the late reply; I've been assisting 2 woman on the Mornington Peninsula with different household chores. My wife stayed at home, got a brief report and had dinner ready when I got home - don't ask questions, it's complicated and I barely understand it myself.

PS - different women, different chores

My memory is that Bucks likened Tyler to Fyfe but ha, this never came close to fruition. Bucks also said that Josh Smith would play 150 games.
To be fair Bucks did his best effort trying to make this the case.

I don’t know. 3 or 4 years ago was a long time ago. The club has basically a new board, new coaching group, and I don’t think senior players are asked to pump up specific players. Sure, they may encourage them, however, I don’t think encouraging a player involves giving the media your opinion on who you think is looking strong, training better than ever, doing the extra work etc.

In terms of Brown and Buckley’s ‘Fyfe’ like comment. It may have been in relation to maybe physical similarities rather than him playing like him. How many times are draftees compared to champions like Pendlebury? If you’re a midfielder who isn’t quick, but relatively tall, looks like you have time with the ball, you’re compared to Pendles.
I remember Bucks saying Tyler had Fyfe like attributes. Went off half-cocked.
Going off training form also led Bucks to selecting Peter Yagmoor in Round 1 when he wasn’t ready and also preferring Henry Schade to Lynden Dunn.
