I thought he was joining us as a delisted free agent? Why we randomly throwing in a pick?
My recollection is you can get the player to the club quicker via a trade than waiting for the delisted free agent signing window.

So that has the advantage of getting them on the club’s fitness program sooner, plus alleviating any anxiety for the player of needing to wait to get closure on their move.

The pick will almost certainly be a third or fourth rounder which is basically worthless in this draft.

You know this is all a setup.

We'll trade a pick in the 50s or 60s for him, a pick we never would have used, and then in 3 years time old mate will tell us who we could have drafted with that pick.

"Could have drafted a generational talent with pick 67"

Terrible take. Derksen’s hair is nowhere near the silky number 12’s elite bouffant.

Proper Gander any views on shoulder comparatives?
Not a fan really, but the hair shows embryo promise and I found out just now he booted 5 against Coburg in early 2023 so there’s that

Is there anything this man can't do?

Get a game, it would seem
Derksen did injure his toe late in the year, but the Giants also lost Buckley to injury and Taylor at other times yet Derksen didn't get a shot at it. Plus the Giants would've known Aleer was highly likely to go at the end of this season.

Tomlinson used to get dominant numbers like Derksen did this year and last in the VFL as a tall back, and so does Howes now for Casey.

Completely different position but Sharp rips it up in the VFL, so does Laurie and Billings.

So the numbers are promising but the step up from VFL is massive so a lot yet to be proved.

I had a look at his film two preseasons ago and it wasn't bad tbf. Im not mad at taking a shot on him for a late pick. He is much better than Full Cream, Schache and Kentfield.

Agree that there's something to work with re Kentfield – has some good traits. As a VFL player though, Derksen has certainly been 'better'.

I'm all in on the Derka Derka and Superman book ends, more just talking about Creamy and Shaq.

Saints supporters saying why would one of their players want to go to Melbourne, feels bad man. :tearsofjoy:
I'm having an incredible time reading their board/socials at the moment. Five new b-graders and they've awarded themselves next year's flag

I like De Koning a lot but they spent a fortune to get him. He better be good.

Not really fussed about the news of missing out Windhager, very meh about if he comes or doesnt.

Saints fans calling Melbourne mediocre is a bit much. I mean sure we are right now. But they are starved of success and adding in these guys on top of the Nas contract is going to anchor them financially, I don’t care how much cap space they banked. TDK an upgrade on Marshall slightly. A bit younger yes. Silvagni doesn’t get on the park and was decent this year in first time down back. Aleer looks ok but a long way to go still. Liam Ryan is a good player but not sure how good he’ll get to again. But a nice addition.
Seems OOC players will be shopping around to get extra coin. Probably what Windhager doing.
There’s no doubt Marshall leave IMO and can see at least one more going surely. Not sure all these additions propels them too far.

In isolation he's good, but he still struggles to run out games and at 26, I don't see how much better he's realistically going to get unless he all of a sudden builds a tank.

Either they're paying $1.7 million for him to ruck share with Marshall (both are mediocre forwards), or they're paying double Marshall's salary for a three year younger, marginal upgrade at best.

Good on them for attracting players, but I don't really see how they win out of that deal. Memberships, I suppose.
