Saints have deployed the War Chest - it's pretty high risk/reward as it's not like they're bringing in genuine stars but they're paying genuine star $$$.

Silvagni is honest and injury prone and TDK isn't a top 5 ruck but should be next year. Don't know why they're going after Leek Aleer as well as JSOS - their midfield is the thing that needs work.

With King on over a $1m and rarely on the park their cap is pretty bizarre.

Of course, and trade period is still a while away anyways, but just pointing out that it's not just the senior coach who decides this stuff - We've renewed 5 contracts since sacking the senior coach.

Just seems weird to complain about the timing of journos talking about trades when trade period doesn't start until after we will appoint a coach anyways.
Guerra has already said that the next coach will have a big say in list management decisions.

Journos can talk about whatever they want but it's pretty clear at this stage they don't actually have any intel from any of the players or clubs and are just kite-flying at the moment.

The genuine intel we've gotten recently is that a number of players are sick of May and raised it with Goodwin during the year and that Oliver has said he is keen to stay. Everything else is guesswork.

Getting real Demonland vibes with all this "how dare they!" stuff about journos. Twomey isn't a shock jock, and so far this offseason there's been PLENTY of journo talk that has come out as reality in terms of trades and free agency. Wouldn't have thought it was a complete shock people were talking about Trac given he would have requested a trade last year if his agent was able to co-ordinate one.

And not arguing that the new coach will have a big say, but we're clearly not sitting on our hands, and nor should we be, clubs are already making moves, we'd be stupid to wait for another few weeks before talking to anyone, it would be all over.

Especially in a 'weaker' draft, we ain't replacing 13 players
Think Roos replaced about that many when he arrived but pretty easy to make those calls when half the team are VFL plodders.

Pretty impressive what he was able to do back then. Started with almost no talent on the list and got us into a position to be knocking on the door of finals within four years. North still can't escape the bottom 4 after bottoming out 6 years ago. West Coast not as long but have only gotten worse.

Jason Taylor joined us around about the same time as Roos too, so deserves some credit as well given how repetitive a few are here about having a crack at him.

Edit - And Tim Lamb just before them both.

Where did anyone say anything to the affect of "how dare they!" I literally said they can say what they like.

Think you are reading too much into people expressing skepticism over commentary so far. Twomey just gave his opinion of what he thinks should happen, he can do that as much as he likes, doesn't mean there's anything there at this stage.

Just because you want trades to happen doesn't mean they will. Most of the board are all for major list turnover as far as I've seen. I'm not about to get excited over journos putting their list manager cap on though.

What was Lamb's role before he took over for Viney?

Few posts having a crack at journos now if you read the previous pages. I just pay attention when Twomey talks, he knows this space really well, and often he'll float something like this because there's actually something going on behind the scenes. Not saying that is definitely the case with Trac, but given the context, it would hardly be a surprise.

I'm not all in on a Trac trade. I'm a bit on the fence because I think he could be good for us as a more permanent forward, and Oliver is the one I would want to trade. Thing is though - Oliver is going to be so much harder to trade than Trac, and IMO Trac 100% wants out if he can make it happen.

Those quotes from Oliver yesterday read as pretty genuine. So would need to be pushed out, certainly wouldn't take a paycut to leave so we are going to have to fork a bit out. Don't think shopping him around for a third year running is an option. Imo only way he goes is if another club comes to us which hasn't happened as far as we know.

Trac's looked like a lost puppy all year but so far the only suitable home we've heard about for him is Hawks and even then he would appear to be their least favourite option. Reckon that there's no chance we try to sell him without at least a decent first rounder coming back our way. Think a new coach could turn him around too.

I thought idiots who repeatedly give away stupid free kicks in front of goal would not be welcomed.
Thanks danster

I don't particularly like Lever as a player, but he averaged 0.9 free kicks against per game this season (ranked around 250th in the AFL). The 'repeatedly gives away dumb free kicks' argument is a bit of a fallacy (granted, they stand out because they can be howlers, but when the number is that low, it really isn't much of a factor).

It's been pushed by one bloke who think Sparrow rocks and Langford sucks.

Yep, agree on Oliver - Plus he seems a lot more invested than Trac, which is all part of that context that makes it more difficult to trade him than Trac IMO. I don't think we will shop around those guys anyway, but we will answer the phone if we get calls about them.

I still think personally there's a bit of a watch on the Pies with Trac. They may have some movement there end of year, I reckon Hill might go, and we know how keen Trac would be to get there, so just a watch this space I reckon.

Just do what the new coach wants to do. If he wants to have a crack with the big boys then do it, if he wants to clean out then do it.
It's not that simple though.

We just sacked a coach because his vision for the team and list wasn't aligned with the board. I don't think the board is then going to hire someone who has a similar vision to Goody.
