What? You just said let the new coach do whatever they want, now you're saying make sure to hire someone who does what the board want?
Well yeah why hire someone who will immediately be at loggerheads with the direction the club wants to go in. I didn't explain myself properly sorry.

FWIW I’m not whacking Twomey or saying he’s a shock jock. However, it’s undeniable that his statement about what he thinks Petracca should do was purely opinion and good content for that particular platform.

My opinion with Petracca is pretty on the fence. I think it’s likely that he would want to know what the incoming coaches view on the team and his role within it is before requesting a trade.

That's fair - But I just don't think Twomey said anything outrageous, and there's been plenty of talk about the Hawks maybe looking at Trac, so don't really think it was a wild comment. Just my view too, but Twomey is the type that often will throw these things out there when he's already heard something but maybe doesn't have it solid enough to report it as such, so it generally gets my attention.

My Instagram popped up some random thing saying Steven May met with Bulldogs today. Didn’t look like the worlds most reliable account though

Bulldogs themselves said "zero interest" a week and a bit ago, but you never know I guess. There would be a lot of agents making calls at the moment and things change quickly.

They could get him cheap, but don't know why they'd bother. Outstanding KPD in his prime, but he's about as cooked as you can get. Doubt the on-field production would be worth the headaches he can create.

Recent reports are Bulldogs are after Wilkie. Bevo's always been pretty quick to move on players who cause trouble in the locker rooms so highly doubt he'd want to bring in someone like May.

It’s always possible - I had a quick squizz just now at other posts by this person and they sound like a no-insight attention seeking flog though. It’s some amateur posting crap like “Are three clubs circling [Curnow, Hollands, whoever] linking his personal blog with misspelled stuff

The lack of meaty rumours around players leaving is concerning. I know we don’t have a coach yet, but that doesn’t stop players who want out flagging it like Curnow.

Surely some of our spuds want out.

Not that Sam (something, can't remember last name) bloke who starts every thing with "Is it true that....." is it?

Everyone loves being at the Dees!

Sounds just like him but if so he’s switched handle. I’m not going through his 20 or so articles of “Why THIS MAN missed AA”.

Algorithms always bring me really weird stuff. At least this lot of freaks share some common ground with my internet searches.

Hey guys :) I come in peace.

Just wondering what the general consensus is with Dees fans on whether you should try and contend with a new coach or go down the rebuild path like we did?

Your list is in a pretty similar position to us with a few older guys who have decent trade value (Petracca, Lever, Fritsch) that you could turn into draft assets.

The big difference is the quality of the draft this year vs last year. Perhaps you could push for future picks in trades?

Not to speak for the whole board, but I feel like more people are down for the rebuild than trying to contend. Probably some split opinions, though.

Think the Dees sit somewhere in the middle tbh.

There's been more issues than just the list, and we've done well with bringing in draft talent the last few years with our under 23s in not too bad shape - I would say both those things are very different to when you guys had to go full rebuild.

Then the combo of it being a terrible time to go to the draft, with only 1 decent one coming up the next few years, as well as our list falling in a hole in the 24-28 year old age group, means we will likely try to add players around about that age more so than the draft this year. Of course, that is compromised by us not yet having a coach, a proper home base, or being an attractive proposition in general.

Personally think the expectation next year will be to be competitive, aim to play finals, while also improving the list and more importantly the game style, culture and club itself. But I would doubt they would think they're remotely close to actually contending for a flag.

The difference between us and the Tiges is we're only an attractive proposition when we're winning. We have nothing going for us in other ways, so that makes it all a bit harder.

We are looking to be right in that low mid-table mire for a few years. Not good enough to contend, not quite bottoming out, aging stars past their best but capable enough to pinch just enough wins against other shit teams.

Terrible draft capitol followed by compromised drafts. Absolutely no attraction for free agents of any quality except maybe to play with kozzie... Maybe a new coach brings a suprise over.

Unless we have done a Geelong and stashed a bunch of high potential guns somewhere to draft in the 40-rookie pick range it is going to be pretty uninspiring for a few years.

**** middling out. 2nd best position to finish is last.

Let’s offload our older stars and rebuild fully. Being a middle team gets you nowhere, look at Freo and St Kilda.
