The difference between a hard and a soft draw is not that big. It's six games of a 23-game season (26.1%) in which everyone plays against everyone at least once.

Besides, there are always teams that are weaker and others that are stronger than expected. Thus, I don't worry about that.

I only think that all doubles should primarily be: Top v Top; Mid v Mid; Bot v Bot. Then, the extra round would include the mandatory doubles whenever necessary.

Hence, i.m.h.o., our doubles should be: Lions, Swans, Cats, Giants, Hawks, Crows. Anything different of that, it should be seen as a net gain.

This year there was 4 games separating Melbourne in 14th and Geelong in 3rd. If hypothetically one team plays Richmond and West Coast a second time and wins and the other plays Sydney and Brisbane a second time and loses, they're now even. It makes a huge difference in a competition where there is not much between teams.

You are either good, and win those games regardless; or you aren’t good and either lose or get a reality-check in Finals.

If you don’t win, it doesn’t matter.

Tom Morris: Some early fixture notes…- Carlton is lobbying to play its first game of 2025 v Richmond at the MCG, not in Opening Round as it did this year. It wants six MCG home games, not five.- Adelaide asked the AFL to host an Opening Round game. The league said no. Opening Round is set to again be played across NSW & QLD.- Collingwood’s position in July was all 18 clubs should play across Opening Round to make it fair. There has been a shift since they missed finals. The Pies would been fine with a similar arrangement to this year, if that’s what is decided.

Not really. In every sporting league around the world teams make requests.

The difference of course is that the league here is already skewed to promoting the big Victorian Clubs and leaving everyone else in the lurch.

The double ups are always the first thing I look out for in the fixture. Not really interested in much else.

It’s always going to be inequality due to only 6 double up games out of 17.

They do try their best to make it fair by dividing previous years ladder Into thirds and most of your double ups come from that third. But it’s still a bit of a lucky dip.

There is always bolters and sliders that mess things up.

I still think 2015 was the toughest fixture we’ve ever had. First 6 rounds contained 6 top 8 teams, we went 3 and 3 which in hindsight wasn’t too bad but I feel like that start cooked us.

We lost to 17th placed Brisbane after the toll of that 6 week stretch, Kane selfishly called stumps for his 300th in another dismal loss at home to Richmond and the season just slipped away from there after so much pre season hope.

I doubt you could ever get as brutal of a first 6 weeks of footy as 2015 again.
