I agree...they looked good in the first half but then again GWS were losing all the ball in the middle. They mightn't have been up for it. Once they had that enforced break GWS were a little more fearsome and motivated and evened that up and Carlton were second best for the second half.
Or maybe Carlton knew they had the game won by the storm break and were already thinking about their trip west.

I guess both parts of the game were a little from column A and a little from column B.

Thats true of course but the incentive to make the margin higher and make things easier for themselves even if they lost to West Coast in the last round was still there. I just thought GWS realigned from their original nothing to play for mentality at the enforced break. It was still contested in the second half

I haven't watched it but the Carlton-GWS result reminds me of our win over GCS. We looked amazing at the time but the opposition had something to do with it.

Rentsch's suspension from the Eagles' do or die match against Carlton is a significant blow - she's been really good for them this season. And I guess that's good for us because if Carlton win our path to finals is easier. It's also a little bit of karma that we are potentially the beneficiaries of a penalty that came about because of a wrong done to us.

Here's the bit about the Swans:

The Swans have had a very patchy season. Started full of fire, but it's fizzled out quite quickly. They know how to win without Chloe Molloy (back), but it makes life very difficult from here on in. Teams appear to have figured out how to beat Sydney's gameplan, and the Swans have struggled to switch gears when things aren't going to plan.

Both here and on the W download podcast the afl.com.au pundits are down on the Swans. I don't understand why we would be ranked below the Eagles. They have described our form as "patchy" which seems fair but I don't agree that "teams appear to have figured out how to beat our gameplan". We have beaten the teams ranked about the same as us (Carlton, West Coast) in two of our last three matches (i.e. after our run of 4 straight losses). What's more, in that same period we have exactly shown an ability to "switch gears" (e.g. 4th quarter v Carlton was a great example, but also late against the Demons and Eagles) which is what has been so pleasing (especially against Carlton).

I think we lost focus/concentration in dropping games to first Collingwood and then GWS (which is typical of a talented but inexperienced side) and then we lost to two better and more experienced teams (albeit the gap with Adelaide was small and we came close to beating them). Since then we have performed at a level that suggests we are fully deserving of being in the 5-8 echelon of teams, defeating both of our opponents ranked at a similar level reasonably convincingly and without some of our stars (albeit at home).

In the W Download they said they didn't trust us and we are unreliable in one breath but then that we might 'sneak a finals victory' in the next. If they reckon we're a fair chance to win a final doesn't that well and truly suggest we're in the 5-8th zone? I don't think anybody is arguing that we are a flag contender now or even a genuine top 4 team. (That will be our aim for next season - as it will be for many other teams and who knows how that will go.) It is a little surprising because one of those saying it was Gemma Bastiani, who apart from being well respected (including by me) is also a Swans fan. I don't really mind if we are being underestimated, but I don't understand it. Even when we were 4-Zip, scraping into the top 4 and/or a prelim was the pinnacle of my aspirations so I don't share their sense of disappointment. If we win a single final I think that will be a very fair season and show that 2023 wasn't entirely a fluke.

My perspective as a TV viewer + I do not watch many other AFLW games.
1. Time
We seem to have move ball forward at all costs game.
We seem to dispose of the ball regardless if the receiving player is in a good position . Lack of decision making, time, lack of skill especially handball skill. Lack of confidence, lack of forwards spreading, is it smaller grounds so lots of congestion, ..?
2. Skill/Experience.
In the last week or so, a sports reporter on an ABC News segment (sorry lack of a source), mentioned how North Melbourne focused a lot of time and resources on their VFLW side. We play what recently, four games a season in a VFLW season?
Sydney were rightly late joining AFLW.
The top four teams seem more big-bodied than our girls, so out body us, increase pressure.
I'd have us a 9.

 watching the girls when they are on :fire:

PS I WILL get to Henson Park next season!

We really are a young team and North have been at it for quite some time finally culminating in the sweet spot of their time and endeavours.
Sofia returning will improve delivery albeit Chloe and Cynthia not being there to mark. Bec will take them.
Youll go again this season. Im an optimist and we can still get a home semi.

How can we get a home semi? You have to finish top 4 to get a home semi.

Don't 5 play 8 and 6 play 7...is it not like the men's finals in the elimination finals. Can we not finish 5 or 6. Maybe theyre not called semis and that's my mistake. I meant the qualifying finals. The bottom line is i was trying to say hopefully we get a finals game after all. Maybe I wasn't technically correct with my terms.

I think you nailed it: you said "semi" when you meant elimination final. Yes, we can theoretically get a home elimination final. All we need is to beat Essendon and then for Eagles, Crows and Saints to lose and - voila! - we're hosting a final at Henson!!

We definitely dont want a a West Coast Carlton draw as that takes it out of our hands. A 2 goal West Coast win would be nice. That then gives us a chance to overtake both West Coast and Carlton on percentages with a win by us although ill take just a win by us.
That scenario would then have us needing only one of Saints and Adelaide to falter for a home FINAL.

Not so. A draw is virtually identical to Carlton winning as far as I can tell.

I can't see the match but I'm following the score and I see it's super close. Tense!

North Melbourne easily overcame a spirited showing from Hawthorn. I thought Hawthorn fought really hard but North really are in a whole other class.

Some major umpire intervention on behalf of Carlton here. First a free in front of goal and then a 50 and a shot in front of goal.

Good for us, but I feel for the Eagles.

It's funny how three of next week's finals are going to be rematches. North - Hawks and Carlton-Eagles played this week. And Melbourne-Brisbane played last week. It's an interesting flavour albeit probably not ideal.

I'm tipping Eden Zanker to reunite with Daisy Pearce and play for the Eagles next year. If so, that will really accelerate the Eagles' improvement.
