Hasn't impressed me at all during pre season. I know we need a KPD but since Durdin got hurt again none of the others have stood up. Phillips has been "okay", McMahon is more a forward and worries me physically (gets pushed off ball easily) and DGB is more a Marchbank type IMO

Positive is Silvagni has been very very impressive in defence
Right on the money.

Back 7: Weitering, Haynes, Gov, Cowan, Ollie, Saad, Boyd/Sos

F7: Zwilliams, Motlop, Fantasia, Curnow, Mckay, Kemp, 0.5 Jagga, 0.5 Elijiah

Mid 5: TDK, Cripps, Walsh, Cerra, 0.5 Jagga, 0.5 Elijiah

Wing 3: Doc, Acres, Binns

It sounds like atm, however id be vwry surprised with no Hewett which would mean Binns out and Jagga or Elijiah 0.5 Wing

Plenty of good sub options for us depending who the team is.

Moir - Would prefer he is playing full games though, would prefer he is a sub out option more than a sub in option but for impact he is right up there.

Fogarty - versatile, can play forward and back but isn't a big impact player. May have more impact coming on fresh later in games.

Durdin - I think if he improves his fitness to being a player who can also play in the middle then his versatility may also make him a good option.

Fantasia - He's got the ability to be an impact player. He was also playing a little midfield at Essendon so could do that again if needed.

Camporeale boys - Would rather they be playing full games but the off game as sub could be a gentle introduction to AFL.

Binns - He can come in and play wing and half forward. He may also improve his ability to go on the ball. Not a huge impact player but will immediately begin wracking up possessions.

Wilson - I we are looking for a player to come in and give us run off half back it's Wilson. If Docherty is back then he could release him elsewhere.

Boyd - He's someone who can come in and do the same, give us real run from defence.

Cincotta - Not available until later in the season but the hard edged runner could be a useful sub. Added versatility to his game last season makes him more of an option. His fitness and form will be the only things holding him back.

Great options all of them!

I love your idea of Cincotta. Can play defence, forward or mid. The perfect sub in my opinion.

Comparing Aussie rules to soccer is ridiculous. They are completely different athletes, required skill sets and tactics. It’s more using players that can impact a game, small forwards, mids, and runners imo
Do you watch EPL? Ange's wingers for example, are expected to run the whole length of the ground, help in defence and set up goals, much like an Acres. Outside running to impact games late.

Hewett should NEVER be sub.Important cog in our midfield.

We need to move past Hewett if we're going to be a premiership team. I'm hopeful Jagga will have replaced Hewett by the end of the year.

There's still a role for Hewett in the future chopping out Cripps or playing Docherty's role if he retires, but in our current mix, he should be the 5th midfielder and hopefully Jagga / Lord go past him quickly.

Disagree. Hewett has a skill set, and a style of play, that lends itself to big finals, while also being an on field leader and example-setter. He would be handy for any team looking to compete. If Lord goes past him, then awesome. But I don’t think Hewett is someone that’s holding us back

Harsh. Hewett is a very underrated midfielder and does alot of the grunt work, screens & blocks required for the stars to do their thing. He's only 29 & a vitally important piece of our midfield.

Alot of people drinking the cool-aid on Cooper Lord. He's promising BUT he's along way to go before he's Hewett levels.

In the last seven games of 2024, George averaged over 28 touches & 5 tackles... he was our best & highest rated player in the Brisbane final with 33 touches.

I expect him to be in Norm Smith conversations end of September ;)

Fit and firing Hewett makes Cripps better.

Not a lot of love for George there....

George is a consistent workhorse and valuable to our team.

I dont post much but im a regular reader to get my carlton conent fix. I find this whole troll reference intriguing. If somebody disagrees with an opinion it seems they are called a troll. Really? Yes you get your knobs who will always say it's black when you say it's white but FMD, why can't opinions be challenged without being labelled with the term troll. Horrible term and completely over used. Some need to harden the F up and accept that thier opinion is not so flipping right that it can't be challenged.
Well done and perfectly said.....

Everyone is allowed their opinion.... Without being a dickhead about it...

As for Soapy I have nothing but respect for and value his input every time.

But a few others think their sh1t doesn't stink and only their opinion matters...

I'd say Jagga replaces Kennedy who played most games last year

i don’t think it’s a Jagga v Hewett thing for a spot in the side

But if it was, I’m certain Hewett would be sitting in the vfl all year

I believe Hewett is currently a lock, and I doubt Jagga is competing with him for a spot

All these players have been part of midfields that won grand finals since 2020:

Shane Edwards, Jayden Short, Jack Graham, James Harmes, Tom Sparrow, Tom Atkins, Brandon Parfitt, Cam Guthrie, Mark O’Connor, Tom Mitchell, Pat Lipinski,

George Hewett is more than capable of being a significant contributor to a premiership midfield. If he can’t get a game in our midfield we’re the best team in the comp and it isn’t close

For Sure. Notice how in the training/match sims he's mostly paired against Crippa?
He's the only one in our side with the strength and tenacity to compete with him.

Tom Mitchell isn't brownlow calibre anymore. But he did win one

Fair point and Hewett is more than capable of being a premiership player but Shane Edwards was an absolute gun and a big part of Ruchmond’s dynasty. An amazing 2 way player.
