If TDK stays we need to let one of McKay Charlie or Walsh go.

We need some collateral to make changes and Wright will make those tough decisions

Bergman is what we need with Wilson stepping up

I still believe game plan/style is biggest issue

Are we in the hunt for Bergman Soap? Haven't heard us linked in the media.

CLUBS IN HUNT FOR POWER STAR

MILES Bergman has at least five Victorian clubs hunting him as the Port Adelaide gun takes time to consider his future...

including the Western Bulldogs, Melbourne and Essendon, as well as Carlton if Tom De Koning departs and opens up a first-round compensation pick, and St Kilda.

Pretty annoying from SOS.

TDK is great, but not worth wrecking your cap over. If he actually does go to the saints on $1.7 million per year or whatever it is...and assuming they're paying Marshall say $700k - that's ridiculous to have so much tied up in the ruck position.

Mind you, Marshall is no slouch himself. Only 29 and made the AA squad 18 months ago.
I doubt they will play/keep both TDK and Marshall with the latter to leave for a better deal when the new kid arrives.

Hudson O'Keefe isnt a Full Forward where is Matt Carroll his definitely in defense and Keep TDK Silvagni stays only if on the cheap, Harry Lemmey unknown has to be tried better delivery make him a better player playing also on poorer ground might be better on AFL grounds. Reilly O'Brien why you want a spud like that in 22 not sure with Oliver Florent Miles Bergman yes.
They're just names on a sheet mate, HOK and Curnow both take their turns playing higher as the bail out marking option. If Florent comes in he lifts our bottom 6. ROB is merely a stop gap if TDK leaves. I'm still not 100% sold on Carroll

If I'm Graham Wright, I'm instructing Austin to offer him 850k / season for 4 years. Not 1 dollar more. If he's not happy, leave.

  • He's not in the top 5 rucks in the comp
  • You don't pay a ruck $1M / season, cap increase or not
  • He hasn't performed anywhere near the asking price
  • No AA selections under his belt yet
  • Highest B&F finish was 7th (2024)
  • He doesn't kick enough goals, in fact rarely impacts when playing forward

The offers he's getting from the Saints and us is purely on potential, but he hasn't lived up to it yet to warrant such offers imo.
His not even worth 850k

Has been average this season

So who we getting to replace Tdk
I don't say Pittonet Or I'll vomit
Id honestly rather Crossley from Southport than pittonet

Straight exchange for Luke Jackson. Go home factor and on 900k. Let TDK go to obscurity at StK and use the compo to get Jackson.

am i the only person who thinks could be a big win if we just let TDK go?
top 10 compo pick possibly depending on bids
free up salary space
Harry Dean FS
Look to trade out our Future First cos of Cody Walker
end up with 2 firsts this year to play with and get dean and NGAs in?
Makes bergman or cameron if we really want the expensive ruck solution still

I agree with letting TDK go and taking the compo. I would not spend it on recruiting an expensive ruckman.

We wont trade our F1 and if we did it probably wouldn't net a decent 1st (in a straight swap) this year given future picks typically have less value.

Seems there's a bit of "positioning" going on. We've been hearing via "leaks" that we're ok if he leaves. Now we're hearing from his side via media he'd prefer to stay. Fair chance this is all just about negotiations and putting pressure on the other side (from both sides).
Let's face it, no-one actually wants to go to the Stains.

Of course TDK wants to stay at Carlton - and I totally agree that the 'leaks' being publicised are his management's way of squeezing out every possible $$ from the Blues in a bid for him to remain.

Also, by the sounds of it, the club and Wright are holding their ground. Either way, TDK will be set up for life whatever decision he makes, it's just a matter of whether he's enticed with the extra cash in his wallet.

Latest media release was something along the lines of "TDK want to stay at Carlton, his management are just working to reduce the $5m gap between Carlton and Saints offers" wasn't it?

Tell him to piss off. If he wants to reduce the gap, he can ask St Kilda to drop their offer, it's not up to us to follow their lead and pay ridiculous money to a bloke who, let's be honest, has barely put together an elite 4 quarters, let alone a full season.

Club damn well better not put any more money on the table for him. Hold firm, don't blink, be prepared to let him walk. Our offer probably already makes him the highest paid player at the club - demanding more just spits in the face of all the senior blokes who have already taken unders to try and maximise the potential of the list - they didn't do so to allow TDK to swan in and take a massive payday he hasn't earned.

Might be better to distinguish between the player, and his management who are doing their job?

Sure, tell them to piss off then ;)

Seriously though - if he was happy enough to stay at Carlton and be either our highest paid (or one of the top 2-3 at the very least) player, he could tell his management to accept the deal and sign it today.

I'm all for players letting their managers cook. But we're at "make Carlton break the bank" territory, and at that point he needs to have a think about whether getting more money from us is the right thing to do at all. We're not screwing him by offering unders, he just has an irresponsible offer from a club who can't attract talent any other way.

I like it. But instead of using a first on Cameron I’d rather get O’Brien on the cheap. People may think his slow and a plodder but when you look at a lot of his main star ie hit outs and hit outs to advantage they stack up real well. Plus I’ve noticed his time on ground some games his playing 109 out of 123 minutes on ground. That’s a massive advantage of not having to use a 2nd ruckman much

I find this a bit confusing. Is Morris saying that if we don't reduce the gap he's gone? Or is it still a decision even if we don't lift our offer? And also not sure what the significance is of saying that his manager and the people around him are trying to reduce the gap. Isn't that just their job...
I read it as: His preference is to stay but he wants Carlton to up their offer, which his management is working on.

Last night was one of the few times he's dominated his opposition & he's after north of a million.. pass.
Our deepest finals run in recent times has been with Pitt as our number 1 & there are better players than him on significantly less than he's been offered by the Saints.

No need to flinch regarding TDK. We've table our final offer. Await till StKildas offer has been presented to us to match or leave. The offer could well be 7 years @ 1million which we may actually consider (not that I would personally).

I'm also in the 'let TDK walk' camp.

He's clearly a good player but has had a real 'nearly' year for mine. Nearly does something amazing, nearly influences the play effectively, nearly has a good overall game. He's had a couple of excellent games but by and large his opponent has also had a lot of influence in most games, it's a weird trend that's developed this season.

Normally I'd be more hellbent on retaining a player that still has so much 'upside', but 'potential' has been enough at Carlton for far too long. Plus we need to get back into the first round and this is the most obvious way.

Couple of cheap serviceable rucks should be available as they are every year. I also don't hate Young rucking as a back up option.

Yep - it's once again a case of people wanting the Unicorn.

O'Brien is a very good tap ruckman. He gets to the vast majority of stoppages, and he gives his midfield good service. Does he drift forward and kick a bunch of goals? No. Does he bob up all over the ground getting 25 touches a game? No. But he does the job of rucking pretty damn well, and that may well be good enough if we can then direct some premium assets towards addressing the issues of small/medium goal kickers and half back drive.
