You think he’s staying Stav, and what’s the terms of the last contract from the club that they apparently offered start of this week to late last week?
No idea.

But I’m assuming it’s well over the reported $1.4m in June and the club probably wants a contract trigger in that deal.

Like, it could very well be matching TDK and taking him to RFA.

$1.7m and 2+2 years.

I’d say offering his cousin - who has been an entire year out of the AFL system, a list spot should he re-sign, Is Massive evidence that in/around June - it wasn’t about money.

I mean, that doesn’t make Nas richer.

The player since that report of “the club thinks it’s got its man” - which let’s be honest has come from the club. Has been in some insane form.

  • Hawthorn 43 disposals 0.3 (that last quarter onball)
  • Sydney (tagged by Jordan) 24 disposals 6r50s 4i50s 3 Centre clearances
  • Geelong 36 disposals 2.2
  • Melbourne 34 disposals 4.1

A few weeks later Caro then reported that Williams claimed Nas was actually undecided and shelved talks in the middle of that streak.

He is going to get his player paid, but that’s not a reflection of the club low balling him or SOS trying to outsmart himself.
Have thought he's gone this whole time but this post kind of changes my mind a bit.

Like you said during that week Adelaide it was reported that we were confident we had secured Nas.

So post that comment from Caro, we have given Nas on average 14 CBA's per game. Surely we wouldn't bother with his development as a mid if the club thought he was on the way out.

Maybe I'm just coping now too

Wouldn’t surprise me if he was another one.

But I was and still am referring to Sam Walsh.
I still believe in Sam Walsh. Only 26 next year, is a genuine match winner. Same draft as King and we're hopeful he will still reach his best - why is that not also possible for Walsh?

And you just know, if he went to Geelong, he'd immediately win a Brownlow.

was out for lunch today with a mad Blue's fan, and he said something that, for whatever reason, I had never considered: what if TDK went to Geelong instead,

kind of makes sense, why stuff around trying to get Marshall via trade and just go for TDK instead. Yeah we're offering (publicly at least) more money, but we know that doesn't seem to matter

I can think of $1.7m reasons why

Salary cap. Geelong don’t have the cap space and they have a policy of not overpaying their players.

It's in our best interest to drive up his trade value. As a mid he looks like he could be the best player in the league. Much more valuable than a half back.

Probably taking ourselves out of ever being in premiership contention with contracts like that let’s be honest. The players signing them would have to know that.

Not ancient ones ( list-speaking wise)

We really need to move forward next year. It seems a bit weird to gut the list to bring in youth and then chase older players but specialist small forwards are very hard to get at any age. Might be a good bridge between a kid developing.

Yeah look if we want to go down that route we’ll have multiple perma bans and no one on here. You can’t discuss some topics on the random thread. We already have rules and nothing I’ve seen is even remotely offensive compared to what’s generally acceptable so let’s leave it there.

Walsh is a gun, if fit he’s instantly our best mid who’s a mix of inside/outside imo he’s so much better than Flanders it’s crazy.

The proviso is of course if fit, you’d want to make dam sure you had all his medical info and the examination was thorough.

Happy to trade a 1st and pay him plenty, it’s a move that actually makes sense imo.

To me our midfield is finally looking promising enough to start looking at key positions. If Nas stays and Phillipou and Garcia are both pushing for midfield time you've got a really good mix with Macrae as the inside extractor, Steele perhaps rotating on ball/HF with Hall. Phillipou also able to rest forward. Dow and Boxshall as depth. Travaglia and Wilson both potential on ballers as is Henry.

He'd be nice but keeps a kid out of the rotations too. If his body is as bad as people are suggesting he might be another Hanners.

Not even he could turn that god awful water into wine

Yet SA produces the best wine in the country. How the **** does that work? SA viticulturists are god?

They do their best work when they stick to putting wine in those barrels and not dead people.

You can put it up anyway you want but if we bring in TDK and Aleer while losing a generational player best player we have had in 15 years. It’s on no one else but the club and list management. And club will look stupid

But what you will do is say he was homesick - blame his manager- even question NAS’s character maybe make up some rubbish like blaming his mum or his girlfriend lol while not once acknowledging or putting any blame on SOS or Gubby. If NAS does leave both should be removed

Like RTB says if we are good they stay

Salary cap. Geelong don’t have the cap space and they have a policy of not overpaying their players.
As if that matters down at Geelong. TDK will get himself some acreage, a car, his partner will be a trainee receptionist at Cotton On, and he'll sign a contract for $600K a year.

I’d ignore mate. Absolute revisionist horseradish. We’ve all known we’ve had something special since day dot.

And, the whole salary cap argument - we won’t be able to fill it in couple years, as we simply won’t be able to retain or attract the talent.

There’s no two ways about it - this will kill the club, both commercially and in terms of list build/management.

Absolutely heartbroken.
Bit hard to ignore sometimes, but you’re right

Yeah it’s one of the weirdest/most desperate things.

Put up a front like they are in the know/have connections instead of just being like “damn, I really hope we sign Nas”

Sad thing is that it’s so easy to convince people that you know stuff lol
And this is coming from you LOL

Pretty much this to a tee.
It’s unfortunate for us because he hasn’t signed yet, but there are very few managers in the game who wouldn’t been trying to maximise Nas’ value amidst the form of his lifetime

They obviously use Murray River water after it travels through Victoria 😉
Not that horrible bloody Torrens river water, that Adelaidians drink 🤮

I can’t believe people think the club is so stupid as to not know what we have right under our noses. Honestly, do people seriously think they they were asleep on this?

The ONLY possible reason Nas doesn’t stay is because he wants to go home.
The club would have done everything in their power to get him to sign.

Or do people think we can see his worth, and the club can’t.

The only qualification is that while we beg to throw the chequebook at him, the club has to also be cognisant of not getting into salary cap strife in the very near future.

And before I get the Battle saga quoted to me - they are totally different players, and I think the club was very happy to end up with the compo pick.
Fantastic post

It’s all about his medical if we’re really doing this.

If fit he’s so much better than our current mids it’s no contest. He also has incredible endurance so he fits the current preference we seem to have. McRae should have been an eye opener, he came in and even having lost a bit from his prime he’s still our best mid.

I could see carlton making a play for Reid, TDK comp and our first would be a good start.

Like RTB says if we are good they stay
That’s true.
But that's a whole different thing than not offering him enough money.

Firstly, culturally and organisation - wise I believe that the club has bent over backwards to prove we are becoming a good club. Certainly it has become much better run than - well when Ross was last here.

Our ladder position is not telling the tale yet this year due to huge list changes, so I guess it’s whether Nas can see the vision and the green shoots and whether he wants to be the man to help make our rise happen.

Does Port offer more, footy - wise, I very much doubt it.

And that’s why, finally, it comes down to the call from home. And if it is true that it’s his parents urging him to come home - well there’s nothing we can do.

We have been absolutely fantastic (Wood) in nurturing him here.

Why do we insist on linking TDK and Aleer with whether we will keep NAS. There is money there for all of them considering the other players we have missed. I would have thought the recruits would help sell the clubs future to NAS not turn him away.

Linking them is just convenient and journalists are using it to make outlandish, click bait style statements.

I'd say that that is an assumption on here. We keep hearing he's happy here and willing to sign for 2 years. You could just as easily suggest that he's wanting us to pay him the same money as the SA clubs will in his first 2 season without a long term commitment.

We would then have to decide if we'd rather hold out over $300k to keep him or let him walk to let SOS get his squadron of B graders on superstar money. Sounds like SOS is trying to hold out.

I'd say the pull of home is there but players are also looking for success on field and don't want to play 15 years in a bottom 8 side. Guys like Sinclair and Wood will have played less finals over their entire career than a kid drafted to Brisbane at the end off their first season.
