2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

I agree completely but my point was around the idea that it is use it or lose it. We don't actually lose anything.
We do lose it if nas contract puts us above 95% which you would expect it to. Would need to stay below 95 for us to be able to roll out over. So since we're above 95 (assumed) we do have to use it or lose it.

Don’t know why Carlton would be so adamant that they won’t trade Curnow.
He’ll be 29 he’s injury prone, he’s disgruntled and their list is cooked anyway. They’re not winning anything during his playing career.
They probably think they're in a premiership window.

I'm so happy watching Carlton suffer

I come in peace. Some good acquisitions. Especially good to see Nasiah is locked in for a bit.

Just curious to know about your cap space, and if smarter people than me here can explain how it’s possible St Kilda can throw such big money around. Have you got a few people on unders? Genuinely interested to know.

Cheers, Leigh

I would do 7 this year for cmac

I agree but I doubt he leaves Hawthorn unless they push for someone like Butters/Petracca and they need the draft capital.

I think he has think he has the tools to become a high quality mid, he has had a few injury set backs and a lot of talent ahead of him.

Sure thing Leigh we'll just go check our salary cap excel spreadsheet. Give me a couple.

Key points

St Kilda has made an 11th-hour bid to secure Carlton free agent Jack Silvagni to bolster the Saints’ back half for next season.
The Herald Sun can reveal the Saints are expected to meet with Silvagni and his manager Tom Petroro from TGI this week to discuss a potential move to Moorabbin.
It means Silvagni, 27, could join the club where his father, Stephen, is the list manager, although the Saints’ talent boss has tried to remove himself from the process.
The Herald Sun understands veteran recruiter Graeme Allen and St Kilda coach Ross Lyon have driven the move for Jack Silvagni in a bid to help keep his dad out of it.

But the Saints have surged into the frame late and could make an attractive five-year offer in the vicinity of $800,000-a-year to land the gun backman.

****ing lol!
There's no way we're offering him that much

We've barely been reaching the salary cap floor for the past few years so have banked that money and can now pay that same amount over for the next few years.

And to reach that floor, we've front loaded all our good players contracts plus gave a few of them a bonus at the start of the season, paid part of Billings contracts for Melbourne and included some of Crouch's contract payout. We also have very few players on our list at that prime age between 23-28 where a lot of big contracts kick in and only maybe 3 players contracted past 2027 so not a lot of money committed long term to worry about.

Ease up Tiger!

Read my post again, I'm talking about the mechanics of his set shot, nothing to do with its effectiveness or efficiency. So that's what I'm talking about, no stories and not saying it doesn't work for him - its just not a textbook ball drop.
Melbourne interest in Max Heath

Giants list squeeze even if they trade Aleer. More bargaining power for us
Max gets a next contract and he'll have a long career on an AFL list as a backup ruckman. Good on him I say.

Because you asked nicely SainterinSydney 😃
